On Board with J.Crew

While perusing the internet today to see if I could accidentally fall over the designer of yesterdays white T-shirt with a blue motif, I discovered a Mrs O related snippet....  that Prabal Gurung has a capsule collection at J.Crew.  I may be the last person on the planet to realise this (in which case I apologise), but as I can find no previous mention of it here, here is a link to the five scrumptious pieces.

Particularly gorgeous are the Exploding Bow blouse, and the Exploding Bow dress in kelly green.  Beautiful!

A Brush with Style

As has become something of a tradition for Mrs Obama, the day after the Congressional spouse's lunch, the First Lady invited attendees to join her in volunteering at a community service project.

This year, the spouses in question were at Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling in Washington; painting the base's Youth Center, which provides care for over 300 children of military families.  The project was designed by Student Teaching Artists from the Corcoran Gallery of Art's ArtReach Progam and the President's Committee on the Arts and Humanities, who were also on hand to volunteer.

In what also may be becoming a tradition for Mrs Obama's volunteer work, a familiar pair of rich purple Converse were deployed!  I'm sure details of the T-shirt will emerge, as our faithful fashion sleuths work their magic.

A Taste of Summer

Today the First Lady delivered the keynote address to the Women’s Leadership Forum National Issues Conference, in Washington.  This event is hosted by the Democratic National Convention and Obama for America, and brings together women leaders from across the country, in order to focus on the challenges America faces.

Mrs Obama is wearing a fresh, summery, white and creamy yellow sleeveless dress in what looks to be an enlarged floral print, with gathering at the waistline and folds to the skirt.  All hints as to the designer gratefully received.  Actually, don't bother hinting, just TELL me!

Update:  Many thanks to readers LJ and Hilary who correctly identified this as Rachel Roy, first worn on the 15th July 2010 here.  I KNEW we'd seen it before, and I thought it was Rachel Roy, but I wasn't taking any chances till I knew for sure.  You can see the headline if I messed it up can't you?  "Limey amateur ruins world famous style blog."  Mhm.  Not on my watch...

Glorious Grey

The Congressional Club hosted their annual First Lady’s Luncheon on Wednesday.  Gloria Estefan was the entertainment for the event and by all accounts had everyone up on their feet and dancing in the aisles – especially the First Lady!

Last year’s luncheon was a closed press event therefore no press photos have yet emerged.  However, The Georgetown Dish has an article here.

Mrs Obama wore the beautiful grey silk, one-shouldered, Rachel Roy dress we first saw in Brazil on 19th March 2011, seen here. (Pictures 5 and 6 as you scroll down.)

A Degree of Elegance

On Sunday the 15th of May, Mrs Obama was in Georgia, delivering the commencement speech for Spelman College.  Greeted with rapturous applause and cheering, she went on to give a typically warm speech encompassing the issues of service, mentoring (especially the less fortunate), and finding the path that gives your life purpose and meaning.

True to form, Mrs O was wearing a very fetching gown – sadly for us, a scholar’s gown!  While looking pretty marvellous even in academic regalia, she left us with just a pinch of pink, peeping out from the neckline.

Without pictures from Mrs O’s arrival it is hard to tell if this is a hint of previously worn pink dresses (Prabal Gurung, Talbots, Diane von Furstenburg, Jason Wu, Maria Pinto are all candidates), or a simple top.

While we can only speculate, I leave you with the very lovely Mrs Obama at her inspiring best - and that teensy glimpse of pink...
