Dear Readers

This is a quick note to let you know I'm going to be on vacation next week, returning May 22. I've asked our lovely, long-time reader, Posh Tater, to run things while I'm away. She'll do a fantastic job, with an added dose of wit I'm sure! Have a great week. xx Mrs. T

Must Read: Barbara Tfank

Official White House Photos by Pete Souza and Samantha Appleton

In this circle, few designers have received quite the reception that Barbara Tfank has enjoyed. The First Lady has worn two of Ms. Tfank's ladylike, vibrantly printed dresses, and on each occasion, they've sent the collective us into something of a splendorous fashion tizzy.

I've been eager to learn more about Ms. Tfank's work, as I'm sure you have been too. Lucky for us, Forbes has published a new interview in which she elaborates on her experience creating dresses for Mrs. Obama (and reading the Mrs. O blog!). Enjoy!

Blue Belle

The President and First Lady hosted a celebration of American poetry and prose at the White House last evening. For the event, Mrs. O donned a vibrant blue tunic and pants. Any thoughts on the designer? My guess would be Isabel Toledo, as the ensemble harkens past Mrs. O x Isabel Toledo numbers, seen here and here.

Update: I've confirmed that Mrs. O wears a peacock blue jersey tunic and cocktail pants by Isabel Toledo. What a wonderful choice for this event!

Can You Say Gorgeous!

Image by Charles Dharapak / AP Photo

The First Lady hosted a poetry workshop for students at the White House today, wearing one stunner of an embellished, embroidered pencil skirt. I believe we may have seen a glimpse of this once before, but not yet had a chance to admire it in its full glory. A stack of bracelets and turquoise earrings complete this fabulous look.

Update: Indeed, as several suggested, the skirt is by Naeem Khan, from the designer's Spring 2009 collection. The tank is also Naeem Khan, in dusty rose cashmere.

Let's Move in Gaultier

Mrs. O was back on her Let's Move mission today, hosting a series of fitness demonstrations on the White House lawn, joined by 80 children and their parents. Leading the activities were select U.S. athletes, such as former U.S. Olympic gymnast, Dominique Dawes.

Mrs. O certainly knows how to work out in style. The First Lady paired a Jean Paul Gaultier top with cropped black pants for the event.
