DNC Delight

The First Lady delivered her knock-out opening night speech of the Democratic National Convention wearing a custom-made Tracy Reese dress paired with J.Crew Everly suede pumps in rhubarb. For those curious about Mrs. O's nail color, People confirms the polish as Artistic Color Gloss Vogue in Grey Lilac. A fantastic ensemble from fingertip to toe!

Tracy Reese has been a staple designer in the First Lady's wardrobe during the first term, introduced when Mrs. O wore a pink lace dress by the designer for her February 2009 cover of People magazine, seen here. In celebration, Reese tweeted: "Thanks everyone for sharing this amazing moment! We are all so grateful and honored to have dressed Mrs. Obama for such a momentous speech!!"

Prep Work

The First Lady visited the Democratic National Convention stage inside the Time Warner Cable Arena in Charlotte, North Carolina today, a day before she is due to address the convention audience. For the appearance, Mrs. O wore a graphic print mint, tan and white dress paired with colorblock pumps.

For the 2008 convention, Mrs. O wore frocks designed by Maria Pinto, Peter Soronen, Rodarte, Tracy Feith, Narciso Rodriguez and Thakoon paired with accessories from Erickson Beamon and Moschino. Any bets for 2012?

Update: Above, Mrs. O wears a DVF "Porsha dress in Cable Squares Lime and Cable Squares Mink" from the Resort 2013 collection.

Odds and Ends

A few items of note this week:

(1) Mrs. O appeared on the Late Show with David Letterman.

(2) The Obamas are interviewed in PARADE Magazine.

(3) RNC style. Relevant here, why? "If you look at Ann Romney and Janna Ryan, it's hard to look at any potential first lady and not think of the impact that Michelle Obama has had," said Kate Betts, fashion editor and author of "Everyday Icon: Michelle Obama and the Power of Style."

Of greatest importance:

(4) First Lady Michelle Obama will speak on the opening night of the 2012 Democratic National Convention, Tuesday, September 4. [2012 Democratic National Convention]

Until then, I hope everyone enjoys a happy Labor Day weekend!

White House Kids State Dinner

The First Lady hosted the first ever White House Kids State Dinner today, re-wearing a Barbara Tfank dress previously seen here. A lovely frock for a fun occasion! The luncheon honored 54 children who are winners of a national recipe competition sponsored by Epicurious.com and the departments of Agriculture and Education.
