Remarkably Fabulous

First Lady Mrs. O is attending the opening ceremony of the 121st IOC Session at the Copenhagen Opera House this evening, wearing a gold dress with fitted bodice and full pleated skirt, adorned at the neck with a trio of brooches. Gold accessories and a soft chignon give the look an extra dash of polish.

This ensemble has officially taken our breath away. Head to toe fabulous!

P.S. Any ideas about this dress? We thought it might have been Isabel Toledo, as suggested in the comments, but that's not the case. We must know who designed this beauty!

Update: It is confirmed, Mrs. O wore an orange lame pleated dress by Rodarte. Hooray!

Wow! She looks amazing. Love the color against her skin. This is such a contrast to her day outift which by her standard's was rather traditional. This says "yes, I know you're taking pictures because I look hot!! Click away."

I've been taking a blog break and have been checking in but not posting....but

MRS. O LOOKS TOOOOOOO BEAUTIFUL! WOWOOOOOWOOOWOOW! They don't call her 'The Closer' for nothing!!!! Go 'head with your bad self!!! The color is regal as well as the woman wearing the gown....Mario Pinto perhaps? The color is simply spectacular. No one in that room looks like Mrs. O nor could those committee members stop looking at her for sure. Sorry everyone but I just have to say this....DAMN!

Her evening looks are just spot on chic! I have mixed opinions on her casual wear, but this is Chicago style at its finest. I miss seeing the many evening wear photos she had back in Chicago at various functions and fundraisers, because she knocked it out the park every time.

Chi-Town is in the house!

Amazing. Great color, great fit, A+ all around. Probably my favorite fancy dress of hers. I think this even tops the wonderful black ensemble she wore to the Time magazine dinner many months ago. I love the Mad Men element to the dress. Amazing.

"Gasp!" WOW, she is simply Stunning!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:12 PM | Unregistered CommenterZile

After seeing Nyon's video of her walking in and seeing the flow of the skirt and the color....I keep thinking it's a Isabel Toledo design (like the black and white Toledo design she wore when visiting the Queen/Downing Street dinner). Can't wait to find out!

And her signature brooches and bangles are just divine.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:17 PM | Registered CommenterJanelle

I love the subliminal message, she is "going for the gold"! The color is gorgeous and she looks beautiful, as always.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:20 PM | Unregistered CommenterJudy

GEEEEEEEZ I had to catch my breath, O my God! I gold dress is a killer, and her make up WOOOOWWWWWWWWWWW

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:32 PM | Registered CommenterMimi

Excuse the caps, but ABSOLUTELY TO DIE FOR! ! !

How can anyone take their eyes off her? It's hardly a subtle statement about the US "winning the gold" of getting the Olympics in Chicago. I hope our "A team" succeeds at that.

This gold dress is one example of the incredible richness of Mrs. O's gorgeous skin tone. The gold brings out the gold tones of her skin. When she wears pink or lavender, that brings out the pink tones in her skin. Her skin is such a rich mixture of pigments and tones, it allows her to wear so many colors so well.

Nyon, thanks for the video. I'm going to stare at pictures of her in this for a long time. WOW!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:34 PM | Registered CommenterWillow

Aw, and in the video, TBG opened her car door! He's so chivalrous.

(Yes, I know that it's part of the job)

I could wear this dress in so many colors. Love the style!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:41 PM | Unregistered CommenterGeorgia

FLOTUS takes Olympic Rings symbolism into her festive attire. Now THIS look will make history! She makes all her fashion-attuned fans proud, while adding such an appropriate, contemporary, and dare I say fun? flair to dressing. Shine on, Mrs. O!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:42 PM | Unregistered Commentercocodelago

Getty Images has several photos of the full dress. Part of the look seems to be what we used to call a crinoline showing below the dress hem. I'm not sure I'm a fan of that look.

I have been visiting mrs-o.org for months but after seeing Michelle in this magnificent
gold dress, I had to join in the conversation. It's perfection defined. You go
Michelle!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:48 PM | Registered Commentermsjones

She looks like a model straight from the runway. She wore this dress to perfection. I have to say this will go down to history.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:51 PM | Registered CommenterMimi

She's a knock out. Beyond Beautiful! That color is simply stunning. Jewelry is sooooooo fine.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:55 PM | Registered CommenterBevi

Why hasn't she worn this color before? It looks fantastic on her.

I agree that this looks like Isabel Toledo, and I'm dying to know who did the brooches.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:55 PM | Unregistered Commentergbs

Ugh...I had to post a comment on how divine she looks in this dress. She is really inspiring. I'd never think to wear a similar dress - most of her clothes actually - and that is bad on me for lacking creativity. She's really making me think outside my little basic clothes box.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:56 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

I adore this dress. Our First Lady looks stunning and she always represents the best in American women. I think her choices are well thought out yet they seem effortless...that's the beauty of fashion. If you do what makes you happy and you're confident, it shows. She makes it look easy and do-able. I'm so proud of her !!! GO CHICAGO!!!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:57 PM | Unregistered CommenterChar

Willow:

Like you, I'm not "feeling" the crinoline showing below the dress hem, nor do I like the placement of the brooches.

However, I LOVE the color of the dress and the bangles and her chignon.

"Isn't she lovely?"

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:57 PM | Registered Commentersailorsgirl

@Willow

I think that is indeed a crinoline. How interesting! I don't know if I would have spotted it until I saw the full length photos.

I rather like it. It makes the whole outfit cheeky.

How much do I love those brooches? I feel like we've never seen them before (I may just have forgotten them, though.) And Mrs. O loooves to accentuate her waist.

I can't wait to find out who designed this one.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 3:57 PM | Registered CommenterChristina

OMG!! Jaw on the ground. She wins a Gold medal for this one! GO MO GO!

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 4:02 PM | Registered Commenterboazwife

She wore gold cuz she's going for the gold. You go Mrs.O!

She looks divine in bright saturated colors and metallic's. She really knows what works for her. And because of her height she can pull of lots of accessories to complement her outfits. I'm about her height (5'9") so I think I'm going to start incorporating more accessories into my wardrobe starting with some cute bangles.

GOLDEN TREASURE

Oye yo yo! My head is spinning...and I'm seeing stars! Give me a brown paper bag, a ventilator something to help me breathe!!!

Mrs.O is looking like the First Lady of the freaking universe. This dress looks like a De La Renta and has a similar shape and style to the one she wore to the Opera House just after the Inauguration.

This is in contention for 1st place in my book of Mrs.O styles.

A dress fit for royalty...

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 4:13 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

I'm so sorry...I adore everything about this dress EXCEPT the a-line circle skirt cut. If this were an hourglass figure-hugging shape it would flatter her so much more. It's too girlish as is - makes her chest look small and her hips large. Sorry. But I do love the color. It is in keeping with fall, harvest time, and could even rock it's way into the Christmas season.

Thursday, October 1, 2009 at 4:17 PM | Unregistered Commentercanyongal

Hey guys check out this vid of Mrs.O talking about gardening on Sesame Street. She didn't seem contrived or scripted at all. Just natural. I love her.

@ Christina - "cheeky" - that is the best way to describe many of Mrs. O's style choices. There's almost always something cheeky or playful about her look. I love that.
