First Look: 2011 Governors Ball

Photos by Jonathan Ernst / Reuters Pictures, Joshua Roberts / Getty Images

Tonight marks two glamour-filled events: the Oscars, and yes, the annual White House Governors Dinner. A first peek reveals Mrs. O dressed in a chartreuse silk crepe one-shoulder gown with asymmetrical hem by Prabal Gurung, accessorized with statement floral earrings.

P.S. This year, like last, there are limited photos. Fingers crossed for a White House Flickr update!

Gorgeous. Very exotic.

Can't wait to see more. Love the bright colors. Spring is coming and so are the bright colors for FLOTUS.

A fresh reminder spring is just around the corner on this snowy Vancouver day! Might those fresh daisy earrings be Betsey Johnson's?

Judy, I was going to say the same thing. I have similar earrings that are from Betsey Johnson. Hmmm...

Who styled Mrs O's hair ? I didn't like her hair style ;(

@ Nic John I don't think you have ever like Mrs. O hair. Anywho, is this the dress Mrs.T http://www.elle.com/Runway/Ready-to-Wear/Spring-2010-RTW/PRABAL-GURUNG/PRABAL-GURUNG#mode=base;slide=6; the 7th slideshow

Her makeup looks amazing. I love these soft colors on her as opposed to the darker plum shades. I'm not sure about the earrings, but I'll wait until I see the entire ensemble. I've got a feeling she's going for a spring look. Could be awesome. And I love that it's an asymmetrical neckline. Those look great on women with nice shoulders and arms.

Discreet makeup and hairstyle.. The new stylist has been making some changes.

She looks beautiful -- as others have said, so fresh and springlike, and I love the lipstick and makeup. And I would be in shock if Nic John ever liked Mrs. O's hair!

@nic john I missed you complaining about MO hair?! Where have you been?!

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 12:28 AM | Unregistered Commenterdasie

That's where nic john and I differ. I LOVE it when she wears her hair swept back and slightly tousled. It allows her natural beauty to shine through. And what is that on her right wrist??

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 12:45 AM | Registered Commenterladywatcher

It looks like an Alexis Bittar bracelet.

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 12:58 AM | Registered CommenterDebra Chandler

She looks very happy to be displaying those fun earrings and springlike colors. Fresh and beautiful.

Can't wait to see the rest of it! I'm sure it'll outshine the Oscar dresses... again.

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 9:44 AM | Unregistered CommenterLael

LOVE the earrings. Any idea the source?

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 10:52 AM | Unregistered CommenterStephanie

Ravishing...that is how she looks! Lovin' the dewy make-up! AAAaah Nic John's hair comments...still looking for the hairdresser huh?

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:06 AM | Unregistered CommenterAdear

I'm not a fan of the earrings. Also, I do not like the dress she is wearing this morning, it ages her. She should return back to Ikram for styling advice.

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:17 AM | Registered CommenterM.M.

On the contrary, Mia, I find her look fresh and youthful. However, your point regarding aging is well taken. She DID need to update her image as she HAS aged and her clothes needed to reflect the added dignity that age has as its advantage.

Iconic First Lady. Spring has sprung!
Haters will always hate!

From what I can see I love the dress. I am a sucker for 1 shoulder styles. And I love the color. Wish I could get a full view. No pics that show the full dress from top to bottom???

I love the earrings even though their very long and busy but they mesh with the dress well.

What I'm not crazy about is the makeup and the hair. I think the color palatte on the makeup is all wrong with the outfit. And I never think this hairstyle suits flotus or does anything for her face but it's not horrible.

As a young African American woman myself who loves hairpieces/ponytails/buns I would like to see Michelle one time maybe with a deep wave front with her hair combed back with a nice bun on the back...still an "updo" just different style that looks very elegant for after five wear.

Monday, February 28, 2011 at 11:37 AM | Registered CommenterChauny

This hair style and make up have added years to her appearance. If this is the work of a new stylist - I hope MO will reconsider her entourage.

Can't really see the dress in the photos - just hope its youthful to balance the rest of the evenings look.

The earrings and bracelet are great. Bold accessories are her trademark. I love seeing that element of surprise in her accessories.
I'll agree with Mia Monte regarding today's outfit (on Getty). Thumbs down. The top OR the bottom would look fine with, say, plain white or navy as a summer casual outfit, but these 2 pieces together...no. And for once, I can say, this outfit needs a belt. I do really like her hair style
today though.

I'll call this look "tropical-chic"!

She looks great as usual. But would like a full view of the dress.

LOOK AT OUR MICHELLE!

I adore this color on our FLOTUS! From what I can see of this one shoulder frock, I likey! I think she absolutely shines in formal wear and knows what accessories to add that plays well with her outfits. Her hair and makeup are on point. Whenever I see pics of her in formal settings I always think of Kevyn Aucion. He would've loved her so. She has that face that he would've cut off his arm to adorn with makeup. He was the master! All in all, this was a winner!

I love the color of the dress, the off-the shoulder-cut, the fabulous spring-like earrings and that fabulous bangle! (and I've only seen a smidgeon of the outfit). Wow! :O)

Absolutely lovely...hair, makeup, perfect color for her complexion...she is truly a GEM! God bless the First Lady, our First Family, and God bless America.

I love the whole look. That dress makes me want to give up carbs for life !!

The jewellry, hair and make up are on point. The earrings definitely do not look busy on a simple, classic non fussy dress such as the one she is wearing. Truly, I love the earrings, it brings the whole outfit together nicely and makes the colour of the dress pop. Another winner for me.

Mrs T,

I was browsing the style section in the Huffington post where they post the dress in a different color Mrs Obama wore at the Governor's Ball.

If the full dress look like the one posted on Huff Post then me likey very much! That is such a sleek elegant silhouette on her. I even like the whimsical earring, but not crazy about the hair though (I think most updos tend to age her a bit). And I so wanna see the shoes! I hope the White House photographer will post some full lenghts on Flicker soon. And lovely color on her.

Wow, great choice Mrs. O! Not only do I LOVE the dress but she managed to not look over the top by adding the perfect amount of accesories! This is one of my favorite 2011 outfits Mrs. O has worn! :-)

beautiful hair, face, makeup, earrings. just beautiful.

I cannot wait to see the rest of this dress. This is one of my all time favorite colors...reminds me of that classic shot of Nicole Kidman at the Oscars years ago....chartreuse! I love that Mrs. O just goes for fabulous colors and fun accessories like these fabulous earrings.

Hmmmm..... I'm withholding comment for now because I think the colour is absolutely wrong for Mrs O but the cut is lovely. Waiting with bated breath...

I so want to see a full length photo of Mrs. Obama in this dress. Where was Pete Souza?
