Pretty Purple Peter Som

Image by Ron Sachs / Getty Images
First Lady Mrs. O and Dr. B gave remarks in the State Dining Room of the White House today, before President Obama and Vice President Biden hosted a meeting with a bipartisan group of governors. Purple was the color du jour. Jill Biden wore an asymmetric purple dress adorned with a brooch at the neckline. Mrs. O wore a Fall 2010 print dress by Peter Som, last seen in September.

I know a lot of folks probably won't like her dress ... but I love it. I love the mixed patterns and the purple/blue hues. Reminds me of hydrangeas.
I love this dress. The back also has a beautiful raglan central panel of solid purple that I saw as she hugged Dr. Biden today. They are both gorgeous leaders.
Love the side-swept hairdo!
I love Dr. B's dress. I must say that I'm not that crazy about Mrs. O's dress - it's a bit old-ladyish looking. Maybe it comes off differently in person.
I liked it the first time our Michelle wore it, and I like it now. It sort of reminds me of the Moschino dress in that it has a different print on top from the bottom half. Also, what about our SLOTUS, huh? Jill Biden is looking some kind of spectacular in her asymmetric neckline dress. It's always good to see them working together.
FLOTUS has such a beautiful face. Plus, I love her hair. Both women look lovely. Dr. Biden and VP Biden are going to Europe this week, so I hope and pray they have a safe trip.
Also, I cannot wait until FLORUS and Jill travel the country to promote their wonderful new campaign.

Can't believe I am saying this: She needs a belt (the gorgeous studded black one would have been great)!
Dr. Biden looks great...very sophisticated. I like Mrs. O.'s hair and makeup, but next to Dr. B. her dress is just very "June Cleaver."
I love Mrs. O's look here but found Dr. B's somber and the neckline unflattering. The brooch seems to be attached to her chest.
I agree, Nora. A belt, although I'm feeling a silver coloured one would have brought the dress together really nicely. Nonetheless, I love the dress. It's nice to see Mrs Biden again.
Mrs. O new let's move ad!

Our Ladies look lovely!
Both ladies look great! Mrs. Biden has really stepped up her game!
I like both dresses and I cannot not believe iI am saying it either.... needs a little belt to separate the fabrics which I think are really pretty.... It is nice to see that Mrs. Obama wears clothes more than once and in different ways. She has original thoughts and you can't fault her for that!

I'm not feeling FLOTUS's look here at all. It is SO not flattering. If she were 60 yrs old maybe. lol
Sorry :o( Dr. Biden as always looks chic and sophisticated and on point. I wish someone had a website dedicated to her fashion choices because she shines almost 100% of the time she steps out but doesn't get any attention for her fashion sense.
You would think that two different prints put together would look... unfashionable, but it's exactly the opposite! The first time I saw this dress, I LOVED IT, and still do ;-)
@Chauny Dr. Biden is a beautiful woman, always looks lovely but she does not merit a fashion blog. She and I dress in very similar ways and I consider myself well dressed but Dr.Biden, I and millions of women like us simply do not create the fashion excitement that Michelle Obama does and that is why there is no blog on her. MO is a fashion mind twister. Her fashion choices are imprinted in my mind whether I like them or not. I think that Laura Bush and Hillary Clinton were particularly elegant dressers but do you remember what they wore on inauguration day, both times!! Here is a suggestion, why don't you start a Jill Fashion Blog, I will visit every day and comment on her lovely suits and dresses. However, you might draw all the people who want to criticize MO for whatever reasons but certainly not rational, common sense reasons and that might ruin your blog. And before anyone attacks me for attacking Chauny, I am simply expressing my opinion as she is, hers.
Just one more thing, what I particularly love about Dr. Biden is the warmth, love and respect that she shows in her interaction with the First Lady. I am old enough to fully remember Pat Nixon as second lady and I have NEVER seen this type of relationship with a first lady. This nation is blessed to have these 2 ladies serving us. We should appreciate and celebrate them both.
By the way, my 19 year old grand daughter was trying to find out how much this Peter Som dress would cost her. She thought the pattern was pretty cool.
@chauny I agree Mrs. Biden dresses like a first lady should do. Don't get me wrong I love Mrs.O and she has entertained us with her fashion but sometimes her dresses are informal and experimental, like wearing cardigans on foreign visits! She also tends to like asymmetical dresses in shape or colour like this one.
This is off-topic, but a fellow volunteer on the OFA board posted this link to her photos taken at the Smithsonian of Mrs. Obama's inauguration dress, jewelry and shoes:

There are some close-up shots of the gorgeous detail in the dress! A very different experience than seeing them from afar on TV.
@ Chauny - This site probably wouldn't exist if Mrs Obama dressed 'conventionally' like other first ladies. We'd all end up getting bored with boxing suits in neutral colours. How anyone can find fault with this beautiful elegant dress is beyond me but (hey!) each to their own.
I love the fact that she experiments with her wardrobe and has fun with it. I never tire of this site and I never tire of this truly inspirational lady.
@ Jestina, AMEN!
Indeed her unique sense of style inspires many of us even when it isn't our choice. I think her courage to be herself is what is most endearing.
@Christen, from the reading of it some folks want June Cleaver
Beautiful dress on Dr. Jill Biden; Mrs. Obama looks 20 years older in her dress; plus I don't think prints are very flattering on her, especially mixed prints, which also don't work on camera. Mrs. O needs to remember that she will be photographed every single time she leaves her bedroom.
Wow, I was unaware that there is a rule book that stated how First Ladies are "supposed" to dress! Who knew?!
Here is FLOTUS today in a BEAUTIFUL red skirt.

I like this whole look, it's very "Springy."
I do love this dress on Mrs O but I'm not sure how many people would be able to carry it off. Somehow things that I would normally class as "messy" she manages to make wearable.... Have to say though, that I do love Dr B's dress more.
Not crazy about this outfit. Looking a little mismatched. Not in a good way either.
Dr. Biden is always beautifully and traditionally dressed. Mrs. Obama is always beautifully dressed too, and additionally she sometimes brings the unexpected - color, pattern, combinations - it creates the excitement in her wardrobe that makes me come to this blog to see what has she worn recently.
