Congrats Mrs. O. this is a well deserved honor. I am so happy for her she is truly an inspiration to all women. Kudos Mrs. Obama I love the First Lady.
Great choice, and no surprise here!
However, I don't think Mrs. O is channeling Jackie O. It seems to me that Mrs. O admirers/watchers are doing the channeling of Jackie O onto Mrs. O. I completely understood the comparisons earlier on in the presidency of Mr. O, but it seems pretty clear that Mrs. O is a very different type of first lady
I think she's channeling individuality.
This is the beautiful hotel where Mrs. O and Sasha will be staying while in Spain:

It looks totally enchanting. Here's an informative article about their trip:

They are going to have a ball!
Mrs O is fabulous! I think Vanity Fair got it right. I was not initially a fan of her kitten heels, but I am slowly being won over. I am NOT a fan of the flat shoes with "dressy" outfits. I think she is the most stylish, elegant, FLOTUS since Jackie Kennedy. Remember Jackie lived in a different time.
Mrs. Obama is not channeling Jackie Kennedy. Mrs. Obama is the most stylish first lady since Mrs. Kennedy, and setting trends like Mrs Kennedy, but she is not channeling Mrs. Kennedy's style. I just love Mrs. Obama. This photo of Mrs. Obama has been my screen saver since it was first posted on this website. I just love her style.
Excellent choice! Our Michelle has definitely put her mark on the fashion induustry. You can go to any mall or even upscale store and see her influence on display. It's from the way that they style the mannequins to some of the layouts on the tables. @ IVA, I agree. I think FLOTUS has blazed a path that is uniquely her own. Good for her and good for us.........we get to watch!
Kudos! Couldn't agree more with Vanity Fair's selection. But Mrs. Obama marches to her own beat!
I also agree with IVA and Drwinona. Could she be anymore awesome? What I love about First Lady Michelle is how she always manages to somehow combine freshness, playfulness, uniqueness, sexiness etc in her fashion and still remain classy!!
Congratulations to Mrs. O! However, this acknowledgment of class and style is no surprise. What would have been surprising is if she had not made that list. Mrs. O shows the importance of individuality as it relates to style and personality. She emulates no one I know.
As THC so correctly pointed out, two ladies of different eras.
Half of her secret is in the colours that she chooses. Who else could wear that blue and silver? And who else can wear gold? She has a painter's sense of colour as a theme.
Vanity Fair got it right.
But I still say that dress looks very, VERY uncomfortable in the bust. OUCH!
Here is FLOTUS in a BEAUTIFUL top today in Spain!

I would definitely agree with the other commenters that our Mrs O is not channeling the other Mrs O!
Mrs. Kennedy's wardrobe was a very controlled, planned undertaking, and yes, she lived in an era where the rules of fashion were much more restrictive. One example is that she is said to have never liked wearing hats, but did so as a political concession to her husbands supporters in the fashion industry. In fact, I can recall seeing only one photo at an official function after she was First Lady where she is wearing one, during a visit to the UK to dedicate a memorial to her husband at Runnymede, where the Magna Carta was signed.
Our Mrs O makes her own fashion statements...we may not like all of them, and surely at times I've seen on this post those who've seriously challenged her taste. But it's definitely hers, it's original, and for that she should be applauded and honored for her unique style. Once again, Brava Michelle!!!

I agree with you Canyongirl. These Jackie comparisons make me sick!
Saw some lovely pics and vid of MO and Sasha in Spain. Sasha had on an uotfit that I would wear in a heartbeat, sandals and all! Lol
@JEB
I never knew why Jackie wore hats. Therefore, that is why I LOVE First Lady Michelle, because she is very sure of herself. If she is feeling like rocking a summer dress to see the girls do something she does it, and she dresses for the occasion. For example, she flew to Spain in a laid back outfit, with a big tote bag like regular people travel. Many people want FLOTUS to conform to the standard of overdressing and NOT being herself because of her husband's title, and she refuses to do that. However, when I see her in standard suits, I feeling like she is not being herself, because she rarely dresses like that.
Mrs. O and Sasha are in Spain. Mrs. O looks fab. I hope she and Sasha have a wonderful trip.
Unfortunately, I'm willing to bet that this trip is going to become the next tempest in a teapot from the RW and the MSM.
SPAIN - simply GORGEOUS black & white top! Is it a Jason Wu? I hope the photo ops keep on coming!
please stop comparing Mrs. Kennedy with MIchelle Obama, two totally different ladies with only one thing in common, they both First Ladies of the USA.
Jackie O. wore hats because they were the epitome of high fashion in her day, especially when worn with skirted suits and structured coats. A tidal wave of women wanted to wear her very chic "pillbox" hats, and soon another trend was born.
she rocks
