The president and first lady were out on Martha's Vineyard last evening, dining at Sweet Life Cafe in Oak Bluffs. For the outing, Mrs. O wore a black and white Narciso Rodriguez dress, paired with a cropped black cardigan, black clutch and statement earrings. The dress is the same that the first lady wore for a Fourth of July celebration in 2009, seen here. Fabulous!

I love this simple little dress!! However, the President has let me down once again. Would someone please help him to dress a little more stylish and sophisticated? I know, I know....this blog is about Mrs. Obama, but how can her husband look so drab when he is with one of the most beautiful and fashionable women in the world? Come on, Mr. President!!! I know that you can do better than this. Damn!!

That's a nice little ensemble to wear to dinner. Are those the earrings that she wore to the Indian State Dinner, I think they were by Bohic ??

Does anyone know where I can find that little cardigan or similar? I love them on her and I want one!

I love how she puts her own little touches on it and it completely changes the look of the outfit or dress. I love this outfit I only wish I could see the shoes but I am sure she rocked it. I hope they are having a wonderful time on their vacation.

Lovely in it's simplicity. Less has always been more.

Aaaaaahh! Now I can exhale. This was well worth the wait. Love the simplicity of the outfit, her hair and makeup, yet it's stylish and fresh...definitely a winner!

Looked good in '09...looks good now! Fabulous!

It makes my heart sing when I see the leader of our country (and the free world) and his wife out on the town together while on vacation. It tells me that despite all the nonsense (true garbage) going on out there, this couple continues to be true to themselves and is thus showing the rest of us how to respond to hate, to the naysayers, and to the shortsighted. When you believe in yourself and your mission, all you can do is ask for His Grace to see you through it and know that time and history will vindicate you.

On the fashion note: black and white has always been a cool and crisp combo for Summer. The First Lady is certainly rocking that look (even though it's one we've seen before in another permutation).

LOVE IT! She NAILED that outfit. Dang, I want that cropped cardigan!

I enjoyed seeing how she wore the dress on July 4 vs. now. That is the way to mix it up!

And, this is what I mean when I say "casual elegance."

Tuesday, August 24, 2010 at 12:10 PM | Unregistered Commenterfoo

I would like to see him in a new coat. He always wears that coat and didn't George Bush have a similar one?

Michelle looks cute and her level of dressiness matches his. Not over the top but not super casual either.

Love it. Mrs. O is banging. Mr. O is not look bad either.

I liked this dress the first time, but I really adore it with the black semi-cardi/bolero. This looks fresh and crisp. Both FLOTUS and POTUS looks like this vacation is doing them a world of good. They look positively refreshed. I hope they enjoy themselves and their private time with family and friends, it's so important. Good for them!

They both look great.

I really like the dress and feel it looks best with the sweater.

Her makeup looks fantastic -

i'm tired of the pulled back hair and bun, but she's on vacation and probably deserves a rest from the curling irons and blow dryers

Very cute. I love the first lady's ideas on recycling outfits without appearing as so. Now that's a skill!!

I don't get it: Both times I've seen this dress, it has struck me that it's just not cut in a way to flatter a woman's body...but Michelle makes it look good! How does that work?

Such a gracious and elegant First Lady we have.

I love this dress. Narciso has done it agan. It gets cool at nghton the Island so this little sweater is great. The earings are fab. Boy do these guys deserve to have some fun and a nice dinner away.
I am amazed that this dres is sort of a bit dressy but a bit relaxed. Mrs. T ,thanks for the post.

I have to disagree. She is short waisted and empire styles/bolero jackets just accentuate it. Agree that she styled it well, but I think it is very unflattering.

I love it when she wears Narciso....he is one of my favorite designers...and I love how she rocks the repeats. She's such a real woman, wife and mother. I think she is an incredible role model. I know I certainly am inspired by her to be the best I can be. Such a beautiful couple.

Perfect dress for summer. Can anyone figure out where the cropped cardigan comes from. It looks great with the outfit and really changes it from the July 4th look in 2009. Very clever. Shelly

This dress is so much more stylish and flattering with the jacket. Very nice!

With her high-waisted build she is making a mistake choosing an outfit like this. The little girl sweater in black, on the top, and the puffy white skirt are just all wrong for her body.

Is that a members only jacket? Also, cropped cardigans are out, especially if you are quite tall.

Wednesday, August 25, 2010 at 5:10 PM | Unregistered CommenterHelene

With a cropped cardigan and sophisticated accessories, Mrs. O transformed this dress to elegant!

Thursday, August 26, 2010 at 9:49 PM | Unregistered CommenterGeorgia

oh, those earrings are gorgeous!!!

Friday, August 27, 2010 at 4:43 AM | Unregistered CommenterBookWorm

In Asian fashion (also worn by actresses in dramas)...the cropped tops are In (whether knitted, crocheted, or woven fabric) and so is the belted look on empire dresses and the contrasting-colored belt look over suit jackets/coats...long-length sweaters, even on evening wear!

Saturday, August 28, 2010 at 1:40 PM | Unregistered CommenterMs. M

Oh, no, no, no, no, NO! NO, Mrs. O! The cropped cardigan and short-waisted dress look is NOT for you! It has the effect of wearing a doll sweater over a billowy sack! This is the second such outfit I have seen a picture of her wearing today and it doesn't look any better than it did the first time. Just......no.
