Os on Martha's Vineyard

Image by Carolyn Kaster / AP Photo

As I believe most of you know, the first family is vacationing on Martha's Vineyard this week. While there have been no signs of Mrs. O thus far, the president has been out and about on the island, including a trip with his daughters to Bunch of Grapes book store in Vineyard Haven, pictured above. Love the pops of fun, summer color embraced by the O girls!

My 12 year old spent an entire afternoon in that store while we were on vacation in July. He thought it was one of the best book stores he had ever been in. Lovely people working there!

Check out this lovely independent bookseller, Bunch of Grapes, for some great reading suggestions.

Say it's not true--is he wearing socks with his sandals??

You know I love you Mrs T but I think commenting on the girls' style, especially while on vacation, will set a precedent that will lead to posters not showing restraint like you just did.

Let the girls be girls, they aren't dressing for the public like Mom is.

Malia's purple sneakers rock! And does the President have on beach slides or sandals? If so, way to "chill," Mr. President. *high-five* and *fist bump!*

After the fake controversy over Mrs. O's and Sasha's Spain 4-day vacation, I don't blame her for staying out of the public eye. I can imagine how upsetting that whole episode was.

If it was me, I'd be like, "OK Barack. Definitely no 2nd term. I want my privacy back."

Michelle usually lays low on vacations. Especially when they got to Hawaii. However, we rarely see pictures of her on vacation because she does not have a press pool like the President. Anway, I love her earings she is wearing tonight at dinner.

From the pics I have seen of the restaurant outing tonite, she is wearing the Narciso Rodriguez shift with black bodice and white skirt, last seen at the Fourth of July festivities at the White House this summer.

I'm not crazy about it, but it's a nice crisp late summer look.

@Marabout40 -

Here's hoping that Michelle Obama is made of much sterner stuff than that.

Throwing in the towel is exactly what the masterminds behind the attacks on the Obamas gleefuly hope and aim for.

The instigators hope they can successfully demoralize not just the Obamas, but those who support them ----and cause them to pass on a re-election bid in 2012.

I suspect that the Obamas being the smart and sensible couple they are, and ever aware of this nation's history, future and very pressing needs, see through all the manufactured outrage and hate feeding frenzy, and will remain focused and stay the course -

Here's hoping that you, me and all good and decent Americans and people of goodwill, join with our very decent and brilliant President and his magnificent wife in unequivocally rejecting and defeating the saboteurs, naysayers and detractors who seek to destroy not just this President and his family, but our great nation with their hateful, divisive and destructive actions and rhetoric.

God bless President Obama and his family; and God bless the United States of America.

C., I stand with you. Totally.

Photos are out of our First Lady and Mr. President leaving dinner on the Vineyard. I believe the dress is a repeat(Narciso Rodriguez circa July 4, 2009).

Thank you, C. Well said. You are a calm and rational voice of reason, like our President!

@ C. and All the Good People of this Blog,

I wholeheartedly agree with all of you, but let me clarify something...these hateful people in the media, cable and elsewhere cannot "destroy" the Obamas. The only thing they can attempt to do is to so poison the political and social environment of the U.S. to such an extent that the true "good people" in this country get so disgusted and turned off by the political process and choose to stay home this November and in 2012. But hear this people, that would be counterproductive. Instead, these people are bullies and need to be confronted at every turn. The President, all throughout the campaign, on election night, and on innauguration day, asked for our help in moving this country forward (he cannot do it alone), so now is our time to show why we went out and voted for him and this idea of CHANGE in such large numbers. We must resist apathy and we must each do our part to continue to move this country in a positive direction.

As for the First Lady, she'd doing what most of us do when on vacation: relax, reflect and renew. To accomplish that, she doesn't need to be in public. I'm glad she and President took a little time for themselves, and looking "cool" while they do so. Cute couple!

I'm worried that Sasha and Malia don't seem to look happy in many of the photos .... and that our amazing President seems to be losing weight ... this is supposed to be a restful family vacation for them and I hope it is !!!
