Style on the High Seas

The first lady was back in the gulf coast today to thank the Coast Guard for their efforts to clean up the oil spill, and to help christen a new Coast Guard cutter boat. Mrs. O will be back in the region soon -- late this summer the entire O family will vacation on the Florida coast. For today's event, the first lady wore a sleeveless dress, featuring a space dye-effect skirt and striped blouse top. Any first thoughts on the designer?
Update: Mrs. O is wearing a dress by Peter Som, from the designer's Spring 2010 collection, seen here. The bodice is a tonal striped mousseline and the bottom is a layered shimmer organza boucle. Almost two year's after the start of this blog, it's still exciting to follow the first lady's ever expanding roster of designers.

I think it might be a Rachel Roy dress, but still need to confirm.
We share the same thought Mrs.T(B). I'm hunting the net for a full-length pic.especially of the back. I saw the event live and the dress was amazing!
LOVE WHAT MRS OBAMA WEAR VERY NICE
Mrs.T (B) here is a full-length pic.although not from the back.

Oh man, I love this look. http://www.daylife.com/photo/05D9al5djcbZd?q=michelle+obama
New pic of Mrs.O in Moschino. She looks so fly!! Mrs.T(B) Upon some little reflection, i'm also taking Brian Reyes into account. I hope you post a full-length pic of the first outfit. I want to know what you think of the Metallic shoes as accessory. Do you think it is too much shine?

I love the dress and when she smashed the bottle against the boat you could really see how tone her arms really are, she is ripped.
Love this dress. I wouldn't be surprised if it was Rachel Roy. She always looks so youthful yet sophisticated and elegant in Rachel Roy's designs. But besides the dress I am captivated by her beautiful earrings. I wonder who designed those. The pale green ones from the NAACP event were gorgeous as well. She always has the most beautiful jewelry.
Her style is very cool and refreshing...perfect for the seas.
cool look.......
I'm getting the Rachel Roy vibe. I like it
Love the blouse - soft, great color combination.
I like the combination of different textures, colors and patterns. Very classy and timeless. FLOTUS looks quite chic in this outfitt. Bravo!
this is a PETER SOM dress. look no 9 from spring 2010 on style.com
That's a Peter Som dress from his Spring collection!
Mystery solved. It is not a Rachel Roy. it is a custom made Peter Som dress (Spring 2010 collection).
here is the look on the runway

Her arms -- she's got muscles! (http://obamadiary.wordpress.com/2010/07/23/champagne-moment/#comments)
sorry.here is the dress on the runway.I'm glad she ditched the belt.Mrs.T what do you think of Mrs.O metallic shoes compared to the runway model's?

I think it might be Proenza. Tie die leads me to think this. Love Michelle. I'm not a fan. Hope to see her in Louis Vuitton and Prada for Fall and Donna Karan needs to send her some Spring pieces. Donna killed it for Spring. Louis and Prada did some amazing pieces for Fall
@ Chrystelle,
From time to time you’ve requested that Mrs. T post a particular image to this site that you have already linked us to. My simple question is why? Am I missing something? If I’ve already viewed an image via your link, isn’t it redundant, and probably an extra expense involved to ask Mrs. T re-post it here? There may be a particular behind the scene benefit that I’m just not aware of, but after seeing your request on several occasions, my curiosity finally got the better of me…just had to ask.
Thanks!
Beautiful dress!!!!! Beautiful woman!!
Oh my, she is beautiful. I appreciate having a FIrst Lady that posesses such a crisp, youthful, yet classic style without being dowdy.

I also love this website. I check it more often than I dare admit. -:)
Yes me too Asereht. We already have Mrs T's picture. We have Chrystelle's link. That seems pretty simple to me.
Love the dress, I too assumed a Rachel Roy but am glad to see that some sleuthing has uncovered the actual designer.
Happy weekend everyone!

Well spotted Chrystelle....it's slide #9 for a full length view.
Yes ma'am...stick to your guns Mrs. O. Her arms are the truth. Did y'all see her crack that bottle against the ship?!
And if I ever meet her, I know I would be just as enamored as Tim Gunn, wanting to spend each and every afternoon with this wonder woman.
Peter Som dress perhaps?
I love the dress without the belt shown on the runway, although I usually like FLOTUS in belts. I think she looked amazing.
Wow, look at those arms. She looks amazing. I need to get down the gym.
Hi everyone. This is my first post but I have been following this site for some time now. I am from Barbados and I just adore the First Family. What a blessing and Mrs. Obama is such a strong woman.
I particular like the fact that she is seemingly not fazed by some of the negative comments. She is such a classy lady.
the skirt looks like kate spade new york

(Just a correction to my grammar).
Chrystelle, you are scary good at designer identification. This is the perfect example, by the way, of how a look might be modified from the runway to real life.
@asereht and Posh: I think Chrystelle just finds pictures and is excited to share them and wants to make sure that Mrs. T is aware of them, too. I don't mind that.
Here's yet another image of the dress above: click here
I'm glad she didn't go with the BLUE!!!! shoes that the model is wearing. I'm 50/50 on the belt; I think it would have worked, but it's not like she looks awful without it.
It is a Peter Som dress.
Is that model really that skinny, or is the photo altered? The dress looks so much better on Mrs. O.
@ Groovy: Too true.
I would never have looked twice at that dress on the model. It looks so much better on Mrs. O ... a realistic female form!
Lovely just right for the occasion.
She looks way better than that model scary skinny
I don't know. Both outfits in this link look nice, but I am still on the fence about them. But she wears them well.
I am a long time follower on the site and just love reading about Mrs. O's fabulous fashions. I was lucky enough to get to go with my husband to Pascagoula to attend the christening on Friday. I was even luckier to be able to shake hands with Michelle after the event. Although I only said a few words to her, she made me feel like I was the most important person in her life at that moment - she has an amazing ability to connect on a personal level people. She is even more beautiful in person and her skin is to die for. I was almost as excited to see TBG with her!! He was behind the scenes for the ceremony but then showed up for the reception afterward. It was interesting to me that her dress looked so much better in person than in the photos. Even the shiny silver shoes made so much more sense when not viewed in a photo. Maybe the flash from the cameras exaggerates some qualities.
She mentioned in her speech that the family will be traveling to the Gulf Coast next month to show everyone that the beaches are clean and beautiful. She is truly the definition of intelligence, grace, and class.
Nice summer dress. I am loving the earrings!
How lucky are you, Cindy Too?! I say this with no shame, I am truly jealous of you!LOL!!
I thought she looked great and I am on a mad hunt for video of this event.
Cindy Too, I agree with Nyon! No shame in saying we are all green with envy. And thank you for the nice description and mentioning our favorite TBG!
As lovely as Mrs. O looks, it's a shame to see Secretary Napolitano in that striped jacket again. It does nothing for her. We have talked about this!

Cindy Too, I am joining Nyon and Groovy, I heart envy you! Thanx for the beautiful write-up of your experience of being at the event and in the presence of the First Lady!
Thank you Mrs. O fans. What you can't see in the pictures is that it was one hundred degrees and the humidity was horrible. The christening was outdoors under a tent but still exceptionally hot. Michelle never looked a bit wilted or sweaty. She looked totally calm, relaxed, and very cool. The other people on the platform all looked truly uncomfortable but she was amazing. When she was introduced at the ceremony the women in the audience screamed like girls at a concert - she has really become a special person to so many women.
I feel really fortunate that I was able to go with my husband to the ceremony - it was a remarkable experience.
Love the sophistication of this look.
I think the last few photographs show her to be tired.... hope she gets a break!
Mrs. Obama is stunning...absolutely stunning!
