Mrs. O & Bo

Image by Evan Vucci / AP Photo
Mrs. O hosted children of White House employees this afternoon for 'Take Our Daughters and Sons To Work' day. Making a special appearance was first dog Bo, who per the New York Times, was a very active participant in the Q&A session!
For the event, the first lady chose a Spring ensemble: a pink top and floral cardigan, paired with neutral-hued trousers and green pumps. Does anyone recognize the cardigan?
Update: Mrs. O wears a pink thread-embroidered cardigan by L'Wren Scott.

She looks more summery than springy. i love the picture of her walking with Bo.she looks great.can't wait for the tonight reception she and the president are hosting.

I'm afraid I disagree with Chrystelle. I think Mrs. O's outfit is actually pretty 'springy' thanks to the pretty florals on the cardi.
Elegant as always, Mrs. O.
nice dog!!
I think it's very spring chic, and i love it. I love that dresses per her audience, very smart.
Love the outfit. That sweater is so sweet. I am wondering if it is J.Crew?
Mrs.O looks great!

YES MRS OBAMA LOOKED NICE SHE DID WEAR THIS SWEARTER BEFORE AND THE SHOES SHE WEAR FOR THE INNAUGURATION ALONG WITH HER BEUTYFUL DRESS AND THE LONG JACKET ANS SHE WALKED ALL THE WAY TO THE WHITE HOUSE WITH HER HUSBAND WILL ALMOST LOL BO IS GETTING BIG HIS STILL CUTE AND SPOILED WITH THE OBAMA FAMILY THEY SPOILED HIM JUST LIKE THEY SPOILED THERE KIDS.
Thanks so much for that video chrystelle. She has so much poise. She was able to handle questions from a room full of kids and play along with an unpredictable Bo while remaining cool and collected. That is one of the things I really love about her.
Whenever Mr. and Mrs. O talked about getting a dog for the girls after the election, she always seemed a little weary about it. I think she even admitted that she wasn't thrilled with having to take on the responsibility. But watching Mrs. O interact with Bo since they got him, it is so obvious that she loves that dog and that is her dog. I have a feeling she never thought she'd love that dog as much as she does now. Unexpected blessings.
Loved the high-waist pants today. I think it's cool that she's wearing more slacks lately.
here is my favorite pic of the event

I love the way Michelle co-ordinated her top with the cardigan, as always she knows how to work the colours. I can't see the full length of the pants but they appear wide legged, which is a winner for me.
I would be curious to know how she arranges her closet because she has amazing ability to co-ordinate colours very well and does not stick to the safe blacks, whites and neutrals. I wouldn't have thought those shoes would go with the outfit but they work here - BIG TIME.
I also wonder if the children spent to whole day at the White House. I'd love to know if it was a day of events in the Yellow Room because I can't imagine they'd all be running around the West Wing !!
Bo is too cute. They should have called him "General" because he certainly walks and stands like a general and it would be great for the Commander in Chief to have a general. I agree IVA, I think Mrs Obama has truly fallen in love with Bo, he always seems to be around her everytime she is filmed in the White House.
I love this outfit it is so crisp, clean, and spring like...love it I wonder how to she stands in heels because I know without them she is 5'11 just wondering.
Thanks you guys for the video link.
I like this outfit alot and Iike the high- waisted wide-legged pants.
I thought it was so cute to see those little hands in the air waving diligently to be called upon even while she was answering questions. Like, please call on me NOW!!!!
Yep, Bo is her baby.
I LOVE the whole color pallete of the ensemble. They all come together so nicely.
Bo is a beautiful dog and apparently very well behaved. Mrs. O. looks great in her very spring-like sweater and tee. Wonderful colors...almost as fabulous as the red pantsuit and sequined top!
Why do some of you keep saying that she is wearing her inaugural shoes. She is NOT. These shoes are a very different shade of the green family.
I love the way her pants just seems to flow as she moves
I've exhausted all options to find the designer of the cardigan. No luck. If someone finds it, please let me know. Gorgeous, spring must-have!
I love Mrs. O and this ensemble looks great on her!
Super lovely lady!!! Chrystelle: That's a really nice shot, it's my favorite too.
This is the most amazing, astunding , wonderful woman I have ever known. This outfit is nicely put together. The colors are radiant and it makes her glow. The colors are warm and friendly and perfect for children. I liked the way she interacted with the children at the Whitehouse.
I don't think the first lady has to organize her own closet anylonger. She has a staff to help her organize her life from clothes to kids. Her stylist chooses looks for her and keeps the closet fresh with new ideas and new pieces. I wonder if she pays for her own clothes or are clothes given to her by designers as they are to celebs. Love the Obama's.
I watched the whole video and she handled the kids and their questions along with BO exceptionally! It shows that she truly loves kids. History will prove that she is the BEST first Lady of all the First Ladies. Every day I am enamored by this amazing First Lady.
Agree with you @IVA
Bo definitely has a great relationship with Michelle. So charming. So authentic. So loving.
Kudos for the fab florals!!
Love her outift and BO (he's in charge!) I knew the "puppy" the girls wanted somehow would become the president's or first ladies. It's always the case. LOL
Ciao from Lugano Switzerland.
Expat abraod ...
PS Love the blog
I too was surprised with the blue shoes and how well they work with the rest of the outfit.
She has co-ordinated the pieces so beautifully , she looks as fresh as spring. What a gorgeous, chick and classy lady. Can't help but love her so much.
Go Michelle go!. She is inspirational. I can't do without this website in a day. Thanks for creating it.
Peace and love to all.
Well that dog sure adores Mrs O. And I think the feeling may be mutual. He looks like a gentle friendly soul - perfect for a house full of children.
Love the ensemble today. Pretty pink florals and I like the way she's picked out the green in the cardigan with her shoes. Perfect springtime outfit.
This outfit is so pretty on Mrs. Obama. I really like the floral notes of this light, airy, cardigan. Might I add, Bo is enjoying the attention, as well. So sweet!
IVA et al - I agree that Mrs. O is besotted with her dog. As a woman who never ever wants to be parted from her own dog, I recognize all the symptoms.
I want to go back to the previous red pantsuit/sequined cami thread for a minute. I loved the outfit and thought the sparkly cami was perfect as is and didn't need any accessory at the neck (lucite bangles would have worked though). But here is my question: would everyone have worn the cami untucked as she did, or would you have tucked it in? I've noticed that I look taller, slimmer and more put together when I tuck in a top under a jacket. If it's out - as is hers - it kind of pulls the look down and grounds it in a not good way. Whether it's in or out, it's still going to give you a horizontal line across the mid-section of your body. I'm inclined to go for the higher horizontal line.
I might see myself differently if I had that extra 4 inches she has at her 5' 11" and also her super long legs. But I'm not sure. Is it ever a mistake to emphasize the vertical in clothes? I'm thinking it's pretty much always a good idea.
Thoughts anyone??
Mrs.O looks cute in her leggings. but i love the pop of colour with the blue flats. so presh!

Operafanatic, I'm the same height as Mrs. O, and I never tuck things in. For me, the higher horizontal line is just not flattering. And since I don't have Mrs. O's curves, that higher line seems to draw the eye upward and make me look even taller and more rectangular. I'm much more comfortable in things that are fitted at the waist but that bring the line--and hence the eye--downward. So for me, it depends on one's individual body shape. I see many women who look really great with tops tucked in--sometimes so great that I think I should do it that way. But as soon as I try it, I'm reminded why it doesn't work for me.
I'd be interested in hearing what others say about that question.
To tuck or not to tuck.......I guess it depends on the outfit. Even at my slimmest, I always have a little kangaroo punch and I don't have a problem wih it.
Sometimes it works to let a top hang it tends not to draw attention to any muffin tops. I guess you have to look at your body shape and the overall outfit and do like Mrs Obama,,,,,,,,,wear what you like and what you feel comfortable in.
I've been looking at a few full-length photos of this ensemble. While I love the color palette and the vintage looking cardigan and cami, the pants are not doing anything to flatter the first lady's body shape. The super high waist makes her legs look way too long and out of proportion with the tiny top part of the ensemble.
I think keeping the tank untucked under the red pantsuit actually made the entire proportion of the outfit work perfectly. It's by far the best fit of a suit I've seen on her (some of the full length photos are stunning). Check out the gray top she wore under the white pantsuit jacket in Mexico as well. Leaving it untucked is a much more modern look.
here is a picture of the back of the mini dress she is wearing over her leggings. Mrs.T do you think it is also by Clu? the design looks familiar to the last one she wears while gardening.

Yahoo has some photos from this morning posted under "U.S. President Barack Obama" and "Andrews Air Force Base, Md." . The FLOTUS is wearing baby blue flats and carrying a REALLY interesting acid yellow/chartreuse bag....plus the black sweater she has on is really interesting, catching a glimpse of the detailing on the back.
The cardigan is by L'Wren Scott, from her S/S10 collection.
Very well co-ordinated is the key in this entire ensemble. Her make-up blends beautifully with all the colours she’s wearing. Light shade near browbone, peach tones on her cheeks, gives a soft classic captivating look.
Flowing movement in pants sensational, so fashion (love the fabric). It can go with almost every colour in the book. Must have in every closet. I wore neutral, beige and off-white tones all my life, but the spring has gone out of most of them, so I’m actually looking for a pant this colour as we speak. If anyone questioned Mrs. O’s colour combinations before, the answer is in this photo. Incredible blend here, shoe picks up colours in cardigan, cami colour is perfect, and all the tones are just great together
Accidental Lobbyist – did you notice the pearls with her top, see what I’m saying!!
Just a quick note re tucking in tops. This week I had to make a decision with a top under an opened blouse. The pant has loops, so I would have had to wear a belt. IMO it’s individual, “what works best for you” and the “occasion” Having said that, if it’s untucked, depending on the length of the cami, or T shirt etc., I wear a broad stretch belt with a fancy buckle. If tucked in, belt through loops. I noticed recently that there is some extra unwanted fat around the waist line that should have disappeared before spring and looks horrible with blouse tucked in. If it’s tucked in, I pull the top out a little over the loops if don’t feel like wearing a belt.
With the new fashion trends, blouses are even longer than blazers now. For the event with the red suit, definitely untucked, if moving around a lot, one does not have to worry about cami being in place. To be honest, haven't noticed the height difference but will look next time.
FIRST LADY IN ACTION
Check out some photos of Michelle Obama in action on NBCWashington.com: http://www.nbcwashington.com/around-town/fashion/Michelle_Obama_First_Lady_in_Action.html
The sequined camisole-styled top is actually sheer silk with sequins of various sizes sewed onto its front side. Check it out at JCrew and you'll see that it is intended to hang hip length, loose and slouchy. It would not lend itself to tucking in, especially with slim pants. Sequins would be damaged and go astray as well.
I love the black vacation ensemble. Very chic, simplistic and super-modelish!
I bet my money on L'Wren Scott for this cardigan, so I am not surprised. It reminded me so one of the black and white cardigan that she wore recently with the many prints. I also posted earlier that I love the color pallete of this ensemble. So perfectly coordinated. For whatever reason, Mrs. T chose to not post it.
At over $1500 for this cardigan, wow she is one lucky lady. Wish I had her budget!
Chrystelle, thanks for sharing her latest pics... what a breath of fresh air... Just got an outfit idea for the wknd.
The shoes she is wearing in the pics with Bo are green, not blue.
@Lorn: I did notice the pearls. I love a short strand paired with a cardigan. As for the tuck question, I think it depends on the cami. I have shorter ones that aren't meant to be tucked but I also have the longer stretch Lycra ones that only look right tucked in. These days I'm wearing the shorter ones untucked because of the tummy and love handles since the Lycra ones aren't currently a good look. LOL! I think FLOTUS looks amazing -- I like the outfit. I saw footage of Bo barking and wanting a little extra attention. I think Mrs. O escorted him out but not before he got to mix a little with the kiddies. (I noticed someone remarked that the girls are spoiled. Question -- how do you know???)
Oh, did someone say the girls are spoiled??!!! Haaahahaha. How funny. We should put together a graph for questions asked in an interview and the time lapse before someone brings that issue up on this board as a criticism against the Obama's. I can't remember how long ago it was that Mrs O made a comment about discipline at home, but it wasn't that long. Blah blah. You don't need an IQ point to know that those two girls are not spoiled.
Tucking depends on the top and the trousers. I would never tuck in a T or a polo shirt with jeans. If I was wearing a suit, I'd tuck in a tailored shirt or a top that was made of thin material and didn't hang that well. But if the shirt had a shirt-tail detail, then it could go in, or out. Camisoles worn as a top would never be tucked in. Too weird. Thin knits always go on the outside. Long lycra camisoles I wear outside trousers with a shorter darker one over the top. The long line gives you a bit of height because it elongates the torso and the the shorter top defines the waist by being just below it. Also tops that have a curve to the hem help define the waist if you wear them outside. Tops that go straight across you, don't.
I don't think I could tuck anything into linen if it wasn't super super fine. If there's one thing I hate, it's being able to see squished fabric showing through a pair of trousers.
Did someone say spoiled? I'm shocked. This ' must ' be a mistake. So I won't comment.
This sure is a pretty cardigan, lovely floral detail on the sleeves. I'm always in awe of women who can wear high waist pants or skirts because they REALLY do not look well on me at all. This is a good look for FLOTUS.
Seems like Mr. Bo stole the show! That dog is personality plus!
I agree with the other posters. Those girls are not allowed to watch tv or use the internet (except for homework) until the weekend. They are also expected to set their alarms for school, make their beds and no doubt do other things besides. That does not look like a mother raising spoilt children, not in my books anyway.
Michelle Obama is raising her girls the way she was raised. Lets be honest, she would not have got herself into two ivy league univeristies, she would not have been as successful if she did not apply herself at a young age.
I think the first lady knows very well what suits their physical features and personal style. Her pieces, always with great fit, have a lot of personality and elegance, as well as being very feminines and suitable for places where she is in the moment. I loved the look, especially the cardigan.
