Lovely in L'Wren Scott

Images by J. Scott Applewhite / AP Images

There's a new designer in the mix! To address the Grocery Manufacturuers Association Science Forum today, Mrs. O wore a pink and white striped silk sleeveless bow shirt and raspberry pink laquered high-waisted pencil skirt, both by L'Wren Scott. The pieces hail from L'Wren Scott's Spring 2010 collection, and can be seen here. What a delight to discover the unexpected inset of pink silk as the first lady left the stage!

Mrs. O's daring style was matched by the strength of her message today, as she called for a step change in the food industry: “We need you not just to tweak around the edges, but to entirely rethink the products that you’re offering, the information that you provide about these products, and how you market those products to our children." In fewer words, Mrs. O said the food industry has a duty to "step it up.”

I love this look on our "First Lady"...she looks so pretty in Pink.

A+ for the skirt - the colour looks fabulous on Mrs O and the fit is everything that a pencil skirt should be. Her blouse reminds me of the Maria Pinto Rachel blouse. (Unfortunately for me it reminds me of one of Lady Diana Spencer's Ascot outfits in 1981 but shall we leave that there?) Thanks for the update, Mrs T!

I meant to comment following the 2 March post 'Tickled Pink' but time slipped by...so I'll take the chance now to add...Mrs O looks so good in pinks and raspberries. (And blue. And purple. And yellow. And...)

Love the look. She is absolutely a great representation of America. Love her! That pink is hott!

Can I just say that as a woman - particularly as a black woman - it is so great seeing Mrs. O embrace and show off her curves the way she does. She is built how most of us women of color are built, although she is in much better shape and is fitter than the average woman. She is truly showing the world how sexy a normal, shapely, and fit woman can be.

I love this look. Very smart and sexy. The color is perfect and once again she is SCREAMING for Spring to be here...like yesterday. :-)

So lovely. The blouse and the cut of the skirt as well as the pretty pinks look so fresh on her. And as for her new choice of designer, very cool. L'Wren Scott makes some of the hottest dresses right now. If she's open to wearing the lovely designs of a rockers girlfriend (Mick Jagger), maybe a certain footballers wife is next. Perhaps Mrs. Beckham will finally get her wish of dressing Mrs.O. I think she would look divine in one of her dresses. The cut and proportions are so sexy and lady like.

I think that this may be one of my favorite looks yet (and I don't say that often, because I believe she does so many things well). The colors, the fit, Spring (approaching), and this lady (Mrs. O) just make this outfit scream Classy, Confident, and oh so Sexy! I absolutely love pencil skirts, and she has the right kind of body (curves) to pull it off. Makes me want to go home, get out of these scrubs, and get dressed to go somewhere!

I know this is rude . . . but . . . NICE BOOTY!!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:12 PM | Unregistered Commenterglammie

Wow!!!, is the word. I had no idea from the pics on HP that the skirt looked like that. She's rockin that thang like no other first lady could (Tried to say it with as much respect as possible seeing that she is the FLOTUS). As a gentleman, I appreciate this look, as I like a classy yet sexy looking woman, she pulls it off pretty well to say the least...

Gah!!! THA BACK! Mrs. O is killin' me with her fly self. Ugh! Loves her to bits!

Pastel color will works perfectly on Mrs O. Pretty dress .
Hum! she is getting better everyday !
Mrs O , you give me an inspirations

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:26 PM | Unregistered Commenterginger

she looks extremely sexy in this outfit and i find it funny when you think that fashion magazine tell us that only revealing or somewhat revealing outfit make one sexy.here comes Mrs.O, fully-clothed except for her being sleevesless, and shatters all that concept.
neat trick Mrs.O!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:27 PM | Registered Commenterchrystelle

Pretty in Pink! I loved the pink striped bow shirt! Until I saw the back of the skirt. That is not first ladyish...not ladyish at all.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:42 PM | Unregistered CommenterDubya

Mrs. O nailed the outfit....and Iva nailed the description and its impact. There's not much more I can add except a very big WoW....Iove it!!!!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:44 PM | Registered CommenterAsereht

Oh my goodness. The back of that skirt is pure hotness! What a classy yet sexy First Lady of ours. I found this really great YouTube video of the Spring 2010 collection Mrs.O got this dress from. Check it out below:
L'Wren Scott Spring 2010

I would also love, love, love to see her in the first white dress with the pink flower seen here

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 5:51 PM | Registered CommenterAri

Watch the link and you'll see Sir Mick in the middle of the table just after the video starts. L'Wren is making a real name for herself as a designer. Her gowns are gorgeous.

I love this dress. Wish we could see what shoes she's wearing, too.

IVA, I'm feeling everything you said and although I don't have that shape, I still know it because it's always around me in my friends and family.

All I can say is Mrs. O is wearing the HELL out of that dress!!! Double LOVES IT!!!!

BTW, Tracey Reese was on Rip the Runway last night and I saw a couple of pieces that were Mrs. O worthy.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 6:10 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

Nice! Ladylike coming in the room, and killer sexy on the way out. The fit on that skirt is fabulous. Unforgiving, but fabulous. And she's got the body for it.

It's always interesting to see some of Mrs. O's clothes as they appeared on the runway, with an emaciated model trying to work it. Can't be done. You really need the impact of a woman with a real, healthy, body to show clothes like this.

*gasps* The detail at the kick pleat! I. DIE. *faints*

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 6:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterJadee

WELL MUDDASICK. DREAD!!!!!!!........MRS.O IS PUTTIN A HURTIN ON THIS OUTFIT ;-)

TO PUT IT IN RANDY JACKSON WORDS, "YO, YO, REALLY??? REALLY??? THATS DOPE MAN THATS HOT!!!"

THIS WOMAN IS NOT AFRAID TO SHOW OFF HER CURVES!! A REAL CONFIDENT WOMAN.

Inappropriate outfit for a daytime address regarding childhood obesity.

SO SO FLY!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 7:38 PM | Registered Commentermeta

This is the sexy librarian look! I like it a lot, the kick pleat especially. It screams I like to have fun but I'm a serious woman, too. The whole look is just to die for!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 7:39 PM | Unregistered CommenterErin

Love, Love, Love the blouse and the front view of the skirt. Not that crazy about the back...very stylish.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 7:48 PM | Unregistered Commenterdivadelta

I [expletive] LOVE IT!!!!!!!!! TEN! She is certainly wearing that ensemble baby!!! And its cut so nicely to her curves. Work it FLOTUS. Girl you's a bad [expletive]. I love having a sexy [expletive] First Lady.

IN THE PINK!

It's funny how Mrs.O is having this heady effect on ALL of us - I'm just loving the comments, Erin, Operafanatic, Iva...

It takes a woman who is damned confident to wear a hot skirt like this, AND pull it off the way she does. I mean the men were probably silently going "hubba, hubba" and trying not to drool all over themselves! But seriously folks, this look shows Mrs.O's flirtatious personality and pink is considered to be a colour of good health and life - stunning!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 8:12 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

WOW! Mrs. O looks absoulutely amazing! All I could thinks is....what a great role model she is for women of all ages and how lucky Mr. Obama is!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 8:22 PM | Registered CommenterStrong Foru

Holy. Crap.

She looks amaaaaazing! I loved this outfit when I could only see it from the waist up, and I die for it now that I see the kick pleat in the back! Jeez she looks good!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 8:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterS. Lauren

Aww! She is soooo fly this FLOTUS!

@ Ari OMG I thought the same when I saw that white dress with the pink flower!
Seriously tho! I think half of those dresses MrsO would look awesome in.

L'Wren Scott is a tall, beautiful woman & I guess she know what she likes! I love a designer that get women's body.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 8:38 PM | Registered CommenterStylishgurl

Boodylicious!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 9:03 PM | Unregistered Commenterian

Hmmm...with the exception of the color, I'm just not feeling the love for this outfit on her. Too much bulk from the bow under her chin, the sleeveless cut makes her (gorgeous!) shoulders look really wide, and the high waist (combined with her unfortunate tendency to slouch when she stands) makes her upper body look shorter than it actually is. I think the same outfit with a v-neck would be much more flattering on her.

But, yeah, with her height and as fit as she is, Mrs. O can get away with a lot more than most women; this look still manages to work for her.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 9:03 PM | Unregistered CommenterMrs. B.

I had to step out of Lurksville to offer my stamp of solid approval.

This is our First Lady!

Is it ever a wonder why Mr. President beams in her presence? There shouldn't be: the woman is fire.

Wowza!!! Mrs Obama looks absolutely stunning!!! She always does simple, sexy, clean, feminine and beautiful so well and all at once. She is magnificent!!!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 9:56 PM | Registered CommenterAshley Williams

The outfit is much, much too tight in as much as the color looks pretty on her. What happen to sexy modesty and subtle dresing as against night clud sexy..i know Mrs O may not post this truth...but it doesn't help ratings but it had to be said

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 9:59 PM | Unregistered CommenterMimie

Come on, ladies, this is not a serious outfit to address the Grocery Science of America people.
You have a room full of serious people and you come up with a tight, pink skirt with a white insert
to accentuate your bottom. Nope, this is a big miss!

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 10:24 PM | Unregistered Commenterchar

Beautiful and beautiful

got a top like that going to try it with my high waist skirt like hers.

work it, got to try that with my skirt.

@mimie save your hate for another day... she is sexy and beautiful, go work out and lets move maybe then you will be able to pull it off. There is nothing tight or anything, i own high waisted skirts that's how the fit and its meant to show your curves. work it first lady, love your curves as iva said above work it.... so many posts around the web love the look, so drink your haterade on another site and work out.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 10:34 PM | Registered Commenterbriana

This is clearly a “definition of a pencil skirt” – This is fig…yure. Mrs. O is a kicking those
“kick pleates” with the little detailed buttons – pleat seems versatile like could be closed
to give skirt a finished look and at the same time can be opened for more comfort while she walks around, as this style can be restrictive at times.

Also the colour of the fabric and buttons blends nicely with the blouse. IVA right on the money.

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 10:52 PM | Registered Commenterprettiribbons

This is great fashion for Beyonce, but not appropriate for FLOTUS. I just don't think the focus needs to be her "booty".

Tuesday, March 16, 2010 at 11:33 PM | Registered CommenterUrban Girl

The CAMERA was focussed on her booty, not Mrs. O. She looks fantastic. FANTASTIC!!!

This would be matronly for Beyonce ... who is not even 30 yet (I think) and an entertainer. There's nothing wroing the FLOTUS looking like a beautiful, vibrant woman!

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 12:10 AM | Unregistered Commenterglammie

wow, mrs.o sooooooooooooooooo smart and sooooooooo sexy.

i'm jealous!!!

it's nice to see a first lady so stylish,so sexy and yet so brainy.

love her.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 12:19 AM | Unregistered Commenterkhat

Love the blouse. Conservative and daring at once, and that's not always easy to pull off. I do have to say that the inset on the back of the skirt didn't do it for me. Too risky, and really detracts from the sharpness of the outfit. But boy, does our FLOTUS have the arms, legs, and derrière to pull this outfit off. And fit as she is (*pace* Renee, above), it's quite an appropriate outfit to wear when discussing childhood obesity, when obesity is plaguing not only our children, but ourselves! She's a role model for children as well as adults, male and female, who are looking to get and keep in shape. Go 'head Michelle!

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 12:28 AM | Unregistered CommenterMrs F

Appropriate for whom?

We are just gonna have to accept the fact that some people are just gonna always have something negative to say. FLOTUS has a killer bod. Killer. And some people just can't handle it.

But really...I wish some people would really get off their high horse. Jealousy is an ugly color.

Wednesday, March 17, 2010 at 1:42 AM | Unregistered CommenterBecky Sue

My, my...the girl knows how to have fun with fashion! At first glance I wasn't sure I liked it, but then, hey, just because she's First Lady doesn't mean she can't have some fun...to me it's like the pin-stripe suit she wore that got some mixed reviews...I felt it was great, not your usual suit like Hillary Clinton or Laura Bush would wear...no disrespect to either lady. You go Michelle...knock'm out girl!!!
