Pinto Reprise

Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton
The President and First Lady Mrs. O met with the Crown Prince and Princess of the Netherlands in the Yellow Oval Room of the White House last Friday. Mrs. O wore the same Maria Pinto sheath dress first worn in November 2008 when the Os visited the White House following the election.
A close-up of the photo reveals that Mrs. O added a floral brooch at the collar and paired the dress with metallic heels the second time around.

I love the fact that Michelle Obama wears her wonderful clothes more than once!
Michelle Obama does a great job of creating many outfits from a single dress or suit by using accessories (shoes, brooches, etc.).
I like the outfit worn by the Crown Princess of the Netherlands (chartreuse dress with tan cardigan).
LOVE that dress. She should wear more like that rather than the teeny little cardigans that look like they shrank in the wash.
I love that she wore an orange dress for the Crown Prince and Princess of the Netherlands. It is just classy to acknowledge their national colour !
FLOTUS looks very sophisticated in this burnt orange sheath dress. The brooch adds just enough to make the dress interesting and the shoes are absolutely gorgeous!
Everyone looks really nice in the picture. I love the brooch and sassy bronze shoes Mrs. O added to a very well-known piece. This is a lesson in how to re-wear a signature outfit.
I think that it was a kind gesture (and paying homage to First Lady Obama) on the part of HRH Princess Maxima to wear what I think is a sleevess dress and a cardigan.
The metallic shoes are striking. This dress has got great lines that are very flattering to FLOTUS.
She looks very cute here. The color of the dress just pops.
If you look at the photo in it's original size on the flickr page it looks like she's wearing the same Sonia Rykiel broach (or a redder version of it) that she wore when President Obama addressed Congress last week.
I just REALLY, REALLY love that she rewears her clothes proudly!
LOve this dress.
BTW, a fun little fashion diversion. Check out today's Marc Jacob's RTW show (slideshow at Style.com). Very good show. Notice where he's got his coats belted!
Beautiful...just beautiful. She looks lovely and I like the addition of the brooch. It looks very much like her signature style. Everyone and everything seems to pop with the yellow background.
I'm so glad Brusselscat told us orange was the national color of the Netherlands. I think the princess is wearing orange earrings - in addition to her very MO-ish cardigan. She's striking in a very low key way.
I loved this Pinto dress the first time she wore it, and like it even more with the brooch and very cool shoes. I remember laughing out loud when the President-elect and MO arrived at the WH and he remarked - upon seeing the color of Mrs. Bush's dress - that "you ladies look very autumnal." Have we ever had another president who would make such a smart - and dead-on - sartorial comment?? Too cute for words.
Mmm cookies!
Speaking of protocol,
Does anyone else notice how Michelle Obama always crosses her legs the correct way. A lady is always supposed to cross her legs and the ankle and not the knee.
I wonder how many other little things she does that many of us don't really notice?
And that room is gorgeous! That is the room that they should have used for the Essence cover!
Some of the most amazing pictures I have ever seen. Scroll pass the first for some pics that will surely warm your heart.

You are right, Opfan, the "autumnal" comment was great. And isn't it hard to believe in our current climate that such a civilized meeting took place, less than a year ago?
One of my favorite dresses. Nice way of refreshing the look with metallic heels and brooch. My two cents in the hair debate is that her new stylist, Mr. Wright, is doing a fantastic job with her hair. You can tell quite plainly the difference before Mr. Wright took the wheel.
Wow! ANOTHER fabulous brooch! Who is responsible for creating this beauty? It is a terrific addition to the dress, as are the bronze heels. Really do not care for the Crown Princess' jewelry as seen in the close-up.
I dont understand this talk bout paying homage to the first lady....cant a woman wear a sleeveless dress and a cardi anymore......
The Princess is wearing what she normally wears BUT note the matching earring and bracelet set....HOT!!!

Princess Maxima is indeed a ver classy and well-educated lady. I'm sure that's a gesture towards the criticism to Mrs Obama on her black sleeveless dress and the fact she wore a yellow dress herself not long ago. Máxima, as always, looked lovely. She is such a gret ambassador to the Netherlands and her native Argentina. Of course, Mrs O looked the part herself in her lovely dress!
This dress makes me happy. It looks great. I think Mrs O should commission Pinto to make a half dozen variations on this dress for her...different colors, maybe different necklines. It has a very flattering shape for the First Lady.
I just had to add how wonderful the President looks in this photo. His attention to his guests and his delight in their presence is so present in his elegant face and smile. What a gracious man!
Pres. Obama is sitting on the edge of his seat! He looks ready to bolt this protocolary gathering as quickly as possible. He does have work to do.
Nakajima:
I disagree. The president is leaning forward because he is showing interest in what his guest has to say. It is clear in his face.
Mrs. O knows how to add a contemporary twist to all her classic dresses, just by wearing them. Amazing!
So happy to have found this site whilst perusing the internet today!
Classy lady.
What I SO admire about Mrs. O is the way she always gets the details right. The brooch on this dress is placed perfectly to enhance the pleats at the neckline, to look as though the brooch is creating the gathers. Her layered necklines (dress and cardigan, for example) are always perfectly aligned and smooth. It's attention like that to details that makes her look great no matter what she's wearing.
I so appreciate how Mrs. Obama shows all of us that what's important is to be appropriately dressed. I have read that she acquired some of her outfits and accessories before her husband ran for the presidency. They're beautiful, high-quality garments with a classic style, which is what I look for when purchasing clothes for myself. It's wonderfully liberating for those of us who like to look nice and feel good in our clothes when we see such a prominent person doing the practical things that we do, such as wearing pieces she's worn before.
I've noticed that many European princesses have adopted the casual cardigan and sleeveless look. I remember seeing Maxima in a sleeveless look with a cardigan shortly after Oscar castigated Michelle for wearing a cardigan to see the queen. I think Maxima and all the princesses understand the pressure Michelle is under.
If you have not visited Huffinton Post lately, check it out for the great pictures of Pricess Maxima. Apart from the matching shoes and purses, she and MO could be pulling a lot of clothes out of the same closet. Great style!
How are cardigans MO-ish? It's a basic!
Just if anyone's interested, here are some other great looks by the Crown Princess of The Netherlands

I was wondering the same thing. We didn't wear cardigans before Mrs. Obama? We all looove Michelle too but some of the comments can be a bit extreme and overambitious.
Mrs. A it was not part of the professional attire of alot of European Princess before Michelle. Typically they wore the professional suit look. However they tend to use more color and flash in Europe similar to what Princess Diana wore. Noone said that noone wore the cardigan before, only that now it has become used more often instead of the typical blazer look. Cardiagans now are used in lieu of the typical coordinated blazer look.
A few years ago brooches roared into fashion in a really big way - and because I've always liked 'em anyway - I bought 4-5 of 'em. Then they went out of fashion almost as quickly. Now I'm delighted that I can wear 'em again and be in fashion thanks to our lovely First Lady.
Loved this dress when MO debuted it a few days after the election last year for their first visit to the White House and the Bushes. Though I thought it was red and in the light it just "looked" orange. Probably wishful thinking on my part - red is my favorite color.
