Mrs. O kept to her classic belt and cardigan combo, paired with a (perhaps new?) printed skirt and kitten heels, for a White House event to promote Chicago’s bid for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games this afternoon. The President and First Lady Mrs. O participated in a faux-fencing match as part of the festivities, which also included demonstrations of gymnastics and judo on the South Lawn.

P.S. Stay tuned for highlights from fashion week, including Spring 2010 picks for Mrs. O.

Great picture. Love the mischievous look on Mrs. O's face as she faux-fences with Mr. O!

Can't wait to see a preview of Mrs. O's spring '10 collection!

Those kitten heels look like the heels she wore on Inauguration Day.

I absolutely hope there is video of this. It looks like they had fun messing around!

I really like this image of this outfit:

http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Michelle-Obama/ss/events/pl/050108michelleobama#photoViewer=/090916/483/86e5cd926f16443ba7b06983d9f2687b

I want to say the look reminds me of a spring version of fall...if that makes any sense.

Also would you say I were a mindless Flotusfan if as I get ready to go to school this evening on Michigan ave in downtown Chicago, I go to my closet and pull out my lime green yellowish long sleeve tee, my turquoise blue lightweight sweater and pair those with some sensible capris add a black wide belt and rush out the door looking stylish. Thanks Mrs O, I do not have to think about what to wear today to shine with the stylish mavens and avant garde young college kids crowding Michigan Ave.

Ha boazwife!

I too have put myself on "Michelle-pilot" a few times and it really works!

I have a big show to go to next week, and some brooches I bought for a song and a dance are coming out in full force, thanks to Mrs. O.

Is she wearing her famous green kitten heels?

This is the one I liked and for the belt haters, she hides it with her hands and arms so you can pretend its not there if you prefer that fantasy. The White House livestreamed it and it was also on CNNLive so video exists. Michelle gave a good speech as did the president and they seemed to be enjoying both the affair and each other throughout.

Wonder if she will wear a new outfit tonight at the Hispanic Congressional Caucus awards. Next week should provide lots of fashion both in NYC at UN affairs and in Pittsburgh at the G-20.

I loved how in some of the pics on yahoo and getty MO is holding BO's jacket. It's like yeah you are the First Lady, but you are still my wife, so can you please hold my jacket. Too cute!!!

Bevi, I was blessed to have inherited bunches and bunches of old fashioned brooches which look so current today!

I think she looks so nice in lower cut tops. She has a nice decolletage or whatever the word is. Anytime she's wearing a top with a v-neck, it's been a good look for her.

Yikes! A whole Michelle Obama Style section in the Huff Post!

Bevi, they've had that for awhile. Huffingtonpost.com has truly turned into a gossip site about polictics. I haven't been on their site in weeks.

President Obama needs to see a tailor. His pants have been looking too baggy lately and they're scrunching up at the ankles.

@ Victoria Leon - I don't know if this is true or not, but I have a good friend who's pretty tall - all legs - and he gets his suits tailor made, and says that tall, long-legged guys like him get them long like Mr. O's so that when they sit, the pant legs don't go up ridiculously high.

@Victoria Leon

I have not been to HUFFO either in about 4 months. Arianna does not want facts she publishes gossip

@Boazwife - you must have looked great!

In our house we call it the "Full Michelle" when I start pulling out the belts, brooches and cardis!

Boy, do I envy you your collection of vintage brooches. I have a lot - and a few old ones - but I can't seem to come up with the right combination to rock that 3 brooches across the neckline look. I love it, but it eludes me for right now. But I'm workin' on it!

Sorry, I just don't get that belted open cardigan look. It doesn't flatter Mrs. O and I am not sure it flatters anyone.

IVA, I have always hated watching men's socks and parts of their calves appear when they sit down on talk shows. The extra length on the POTUS pants makes complete sense to me, as often as he is in the public eye.

I tried the over the cardigan belt with an outfit one Sunday and it got rave reviews. I think it depends on the size of the belt (mine was not as wide as the FLOTUS belt) and where it's placed. It gave me a classic hourglass shape. I was nervous trying it out but I loved it. I actually told people I was "doing a Michelle Obama"!

This is a really cute outfit, LOVE the skirt and the yellow & blue sweaters, BUT why O why is she still ruining outfits with that awful belt?? When you're wearing a cardigan you don't necessarily need to define your waist like that.
CAN'T WAIT to see the "Spring 2010 picks" for Mrs.O! I have looked at a couple designers winter collections and doing my own picks for what would look good on her. (Moschino's a good one)

While I'm here, I'll throw in a WOW!!! for the sequined cocktail dress shown above. FABULOUS!

MICHELLE WEAR THE SAME TOP AND SWEATER SEP 11 AND SHE HAD PANTS ON AND PAINTING A HOUSE ALONG WITH BARACK THE GREEN SHOES SHE WEAR ON INAUGURATION DAY AND THE NEXT DAY SHE WEAR THEM TO MEET A COUPLE WHO LOOKED LIKE THEM AND HAD LUNCH WITH THEM. AND AT THE TIME EVERYBODY ASUMED SHE WAS CARRYING WITH CHILD BUT EVERBODY WAS WRONG ONCE AGIAN.

The woman who really needed the wide black belt was the one standing behind Mrs. O. with the really blah tan pantsuit.

Friday, September 18, 2009 at 3:58 AM | Unregistered CommenterChristen

Um, that womman in "the really blah tan pantsuit" standing behind Mrs. O is, I believe, Valerie Jarrett.

Ok, I just watched video of the event and I must correct my assumption from my earlier post. BO didn't ask MO to hold his jacket. She actually walked up and took it from him. She is truly his loving helpmate. Still TOO CUTE!!

I was thinking the shoes look like the ones she wore on Inauguration Day, too, then scrolled down and noticed others thinking the same thing. If I recall they're Jimmy Choo Glacier. Love the way our First Lady mixes and uses color. Very powerful and feminine at the same time. I don't quite get the belt over the cardigan thing. We've seen it numerous times on Mrs. O. She DOES have an amazing shape and waistline.
