Casual Friday

First Lady Mrs. O toured a Habitat for Humanity project in Washington, DC this afternoon, before rolling up her sleeves to paint interior walls of the home. Mrs. O was appropriately dressed down for the event, wearing sneakers, a blue Gap cardigan and cropped jeans. We believe the jeans - a proper demin pair - are a Mrs. O first!

She has on purple "converse."
I love converse. Those sneaks are probably only $50-$65.
FLOTUS going to Denmark for Olympic bid

Notice the Corporation for National & Community Service banner for United We Serve --- CNCS rocks the service ethic!!
Pretty colors, but she would have looked better in full length jeans. The cropped length is weird on her frame.
Better pics on whitehouse flicker
Converse rulez!
On a higher-end note, Sundance just started showing a great documentary series called "The Day Before" that follows the 24-hours (or so) before a runway show presentation. Proenza Schouler, Fendi, Jean Paul Gaultier, and Sonia Rykiel.
There's a nice clip of Ikram Goldman (she's so lovely) commenting on the Proenza Schouler boys and the passion they have for their work.

(The series is made by the same fellow who did the fantastic "Chanel Signe" series, which I highly recommend & you can watch on YouTube. You must see the lady who has always done the braid for Chanel suits! and how much work goes into highest-end haute couture.)
Can I love this woman anymore? YES!! because she is wearing purple converse!!! I have a pair of purple high top converse. Brilliant minds think alike ;-)
The First Lady is fabulous in denim or Moschino!

New pic of the President and FLOTUS with Netherlands royalty. It looks like the same dress she wore to the White House last year
She is delicious and lovely in low or high fashion. Rock on Mrs O, rock on!
She has such great natural style! To be able to pull of the colors and shapes she does without the help of a stylist while simulatneously wowing people the world over is nothing short of brilliant!
MrsO - you have made an indelible impact which will never be forgotten - your warmth, intelligence and commitment to your family are truly inspirational.
Back on topic, LOL! - I am going to try out that outfit! I have a blue cardigan and the jeans. Hmm...where can I find a yellow cardigan like that...?

Hi All...how about this Tahari suit for Mrs. Obama??
I love the pic with Maxima, she is one of my favorite royals because yes some of her choices are out there but she loves color and cardigans just like Michelle. I notice that Maxima wore a cardigan which I think is a nice tribute to Mrs. O. Alot of European royals wear cardigans which to me just makes Oscar's comments about Michelle wearing a cardigan invalid.
I would love to see Mrs. O. in a properly tailored pair of full-length jeans. She would look great in them.
Love that she has been doing different volunteer work around Washington. She sets a great example. She looks great.
Here is a link to the whitehouse blog about this event with additional pictures. George Washington University students doing the painting with them have struck a bargain: Michelle as commencement speaker for 100.000 hours of community service.

To all those who have the need to criticize the FLOTUS's clothing choice. If you don't like what she's wearing, stay off this site, don't look. You'll eventually learn that Mrs O doesn't seek out your approval for anything she chooses to wear. The rest of us celebrate and respect her choices. Didn't your Mama teach you "if you don't have something nice to say, keep your mouth shut?" If not, take heed and do accordingly. FLOTUS is rocking her jeans and converse...love it!
I've been scouring the net for video of POTUS entering the chamber and this is what I found. Looks lovelier in the video than in stills

POTUS enters at 7:00 minutes
Love the cropped jeans and purple converse. A lady with as long legs as Michelle has can really work the cropped look. And while it's not quite cold enough to wear everything full length up and down and all around, lets rejoice in a bit of late summer ankle bearing!! Good cause too.
I also enjoyed seeing the photo's of Maxima, Willem-Alexander and the OTUS's. W-A and M are pretty laid back and good fun, so I can see them all getting on like a house on fire.

So they ARE going to Denmark. YIPPEEEEE! I'm so excited.....
Are my eyes deceiving me? Is this the really JFK's state of the union. I'm not old enough to remember can someone who does know if this is correct.

@sheryl
Fantastic post :)
I love the way she mixes colors fearlessly. She looks great here.
I thought the long-ish cropped slacks were perfect for this time of year - kind of a last opportunity before the weather turns cold. I expect she will wear some long, tailored slacks this winter - not unlike the stunning black pair she wore when visiting the Russian first couple at home one evening. She has the body and long legs to look great in any length. It would be fun to see what she would do with a really good pair of long, dark denim jeans - I can see some of her edgier, dress jackets paired up with them and a pair of v. trendy booties!
Summer is fun - but I have always felt like the "real" clothes come out in the fall and winter. Good fabrics, with a little more weight and detail to them. Summer is more about color and comfort - like she is dressed here.
Mrs Obama is über sexy, smart and delightful. I really love her and her husband. The epitome of decency, integrity and dignity, both of them.
As I watch the news, I am blown away by the fact that there seems to be more outrage at the musician Kanye West interrupting Taylor Swift's acceptance speech at an MTV awards ceremony, than at a congressman yelling at the President of the United States while he gave a speech to congress. Wow America!
I love the whole look, but those purple Converse are great! No doubt that color is sold out right about now!
OMG Julie, thank you, I too was scouring the web for video of FLOTUS entrance to POTUS address to Congress, especially after there were many positive comments of how well the Moschino suit looked in video versus the photos. And wow were they right, the suit looks lovely and quietly dramatic with its softly pleated lines and subtle angles. I am going to post your link to that particular thread.
For those who want full length jeans--I dont know where you live, but in the southern part of the country, it is HOT! And every little of bit of skin you can not cover up makes you cooler!
nice video of Mrs. O coming in, Julie. By the way, she is FLOTUS (First lady of the United States) not POTUS (President...)
@ Original Mrs.A I was typing real fast at work, realized I had typed POTUS instead of FLOTUS the moment I hit the 'create post' button. She does look lovely though doesn't she?
SHERYL: You really need to stop beating a dead horse. I have every right to my opinion, just as you do to yours.
I appreciate how hot it is there, especially since I once lived in Florida, but if it's too hot to wear full-length jeans, then why is Mrs. O. wearing two cardigans?
Christen, I am truly not trying to be funny or a smart a**, but how do you know Sheryl was talking to you?
Nyon: Because at the time of her post, I was the only one who said that I thought a pair of long jeans would look better. And no, you're NOT funny...you're just sarcastic and mean.
Ok, Christen, I was truly being sincere, but I see you still took it the wrong way. Yes, I can be sarcastic, but I am not mean. If I truly cared what you thought of me, I would try to convince you otherwise.
P.S. Take a good look in the mirror before you judge other people.
Are you and Audrey related, Nyon? You two always have to have the last word and absolutely LOVE to criticize other people even when they have done nothing wrong. YOU take a look in the mirror, sweetheart....you will see a mean-spirited person staring back at you, one who apparently loves trying to take other women down. What does that say about you?
The Obamas performed their community service along side GW students that day. No one seems to have noticed, but Mrs. O's cardigans are GWU's school colors! Coincidence? I'm not sure, but it seems like something she might do. I love our FLOTUS.
So cute - the blue combined with yellow.
But I agree with another writer's comment - the capri length really doesn't quite work. Truth is the capri length really doesn't work on most women. It gives us that "attractive" ice-cream cone shape. *LOL*
Love the way that she is able to mix colors both in her casual wardrobe like in this picture and with her more formal outfits. She is definitely not afraid of color.
I like the shoes, simple and inexpensive, but not really digging the pants on this one.
