An Evening in Prague

President Mr. O and First Lady Mrs. O have landed in Prague for the evening, where they're rumored to have scheduled a romantic dinner date. The First Lady wears another fantastic little black dress, paired with the bolero (or cropped sweater?) worn last evening.

@ Brook,
Her outfit had a cardigan and then she changed into a black suit-like jacket. I hope that Ms. T shows both looks. She had the cardigan on the stage before the speech, and the jacket afterward.
Its so funny to read these ONLINE critiques, if only the camera where pointing on them, and the computer screens could reveal their real ensembles, so that we could see who was worthy of casting a stone.
Most are tucked luxurily in their beds or relaxing in sloppy gear, but they type so eloquently you'd think they were immortalized fashion gods or mannequins from the fashion science museum.
Lets not pick Mrs O apart 'in a manner' that is so superficial and unrealistic that we wouldn't even wish upon our loved ones.
Mrs O is only human just like the rest of us; she has been sleep deprived, she is far away from her little darlings and her own familiar surroundings, she's on her feet all day, memorizing speeches, protocals, cultural etiquettes; grinning, handshaking, poising and sitting in makeup/fitting rooms.
Just because she makes it looks so easy doesn't give us reason to scorch her with HARSH criticism.
As this exhausting overseas journey is nearing the end, lets remember that she has pulled together state-of-the-art fashion looks for someone literally living out of their suitcase.
So what if she wears the same pieces, accessories or colours, so what? when FLOTUS's belt is riding up, be glad that she is waving her arms very high with great cheer and charm of a true AMBASSODOR.
Mrs T--way to go on MSNBC. I give you double props because some of the questions they ask you would make me look at the interviewer and say--huh? But you carried yourself with sharpness and charm. well done!
I just read on Politico that Mrs. O is now flying back to America...so she wont be in Turkey..sniff sniff..its bittersweet..glad shes coming back home but to see more of her. I think I might go through some more withdrawals this week..lol.
Well I hope she has a safe flight home!!
This is footage of Mrs. O before the speech and after. Sorry to post so much of the speech, but this is all I could find of her, and the President had some wonderful words about Michelle in the very beginning of his remarks:

Well, Mrs. O is a PUBLIC figure. We do not know her personally, we do not know what she thinks, how she feels, etc.as much as some of us seem to think we do. Anyway, as a public figure and by agreeing to her husband running for and ultimately becoming president, she is aware that she beomes subjected to harsh glare of the media and the public. Therefore, we are doing wrong by critiquing "not criticizing" our likes and dislikes of her fashion choices, no matter what ours may be. It is just hilarious for some to think that just because we ourseleves are private citizens, we should refrain from commenting on her choices. Again we are PRIVATE; she is PUBLIC!
Glad she can go home and relax in a long bath! And enjoy a peace of mind.
According to Politico: Flotus wore a black Michael Kors skirt, and the white BOW TOP is Mochino.
Dear Valdivia, Thank you!
I had no idea that Rahm Emanuel and David Axelrod accompanied The Obamas on this trip.
My feeling is MO has a naturally high waist and she wears her belts where they sit comfortably.
there are shots of Michelle's current outfit in Prague here: http://www.bloomacious.com/bloomacious/2009/04/michelle-watch-onto-prague.html
Love her outfit! Loving your blog!!
Kisses from Paris!

In that Politico report mentioned above, I thought that it was interesting that the pool reporters were shouting out questions about Mrs. O's wardrobe like she was on the red carpet, and Michelle didn't respond. She was touring a chapel and later a Jewish memorial of the holocaust so I understand why she wore what she wore today for all these events.
Also, the President's wife of the Czech Republic commented after the tour that Michelle is "very natural", and I think that is reflected in her clothing...realness and naturalness in dressing. It highlights her warmth and personality and makes her approachable.
I've loved all of MO's outfits on this trip (including the Watanabe cardigan), but this look for the speech in Prague is the first one that doesn't work for me. The belt sits too high and the untucked shirt forms a sort of blouson over her stomach area, accentuating it. If she had tucked in the shirt, and opted for a skinny belt that sat lower on the waist, I think it would have been more successful.
I'm not partial to big bows anyway, so maybe that's influencing my response. Having been a teenager in the 80s, I'm allergic to any fashion detail that evokes the style of that decade.
Thanks to whoever posted that link to the democratic underground photo essay. It has shots of Michelle's fashions that the other sources did not carry (or make available easily).
There are some wonderful photos of the asymetrical sweater, you can really see the colors in that outfit.
The site's comparisons to Michelle a year ago are also interesting. She has really ramped up her makup, what a dramatic difference. And stepped out of her candidate's wife role, unfurling like a flower.
You know what would be fun? If there was a feature on this site to upload photos of ourselves in Mrs. O inspired clothes. I'd do it!
And those of us who think we know more about fashion than our beautiful first lady, can put up or shut up.
Note to those who should be studying: Get back to it! Michelle would want you to study as much as you possibly can. Imagine what she would say if Malia blew off her homework to do something more fun.
Don't worry about missing anything. We'll wait for you right here until you get back. :o)
I love Mrs.O's style. There have been pretty much no ensembles that she has worn in the past year that I haven't loved.
It's just unfortunate that when you are taking pictures of someone outdoors without adequate lighting, you can't see just how amazing they really look. I recommend for those of you who are on the fence about this look to check out that youtube clip of Pres.Obama's speech that was posted in the comments section here. Seeing it on film gives it a whole new dimension, and I love this outfit.
Michelle Obama epitomizes style and beauty. In addition, she possesses very admirable qualities. Those who think that they are fashion gurus need to be reminded that one's fashion sense is a personal thing. She has represented America well. She dares to be different. Stop being so critical and start embracing her.
Gorgeous. Smashing. Perfect for a date with your husband. They are clearly enjoying themselves throughout this whole experience.
This is absolutely the hottest outfit of the tour. Which is saying something because I thought it was going to be the citrus Jason Wu on arrival but no, this is incredibly sexy. You can't fault a perfectly cut LBD.
I'm surprised at myself though - I spent my entire twenties working the Black on Black look, and I now feel that it's the height of laziness, so I can be hypercritical of all black ensembles. But this is... awesome.
Happy sigh!
