An Evening in Prague

President Mr. O and First Lady Mrs. O have landed in Prague for the evening, where they're rumored to have scheduled a romantic dinner date. The First Lady wears another fantastic little black dress, paired with the bolero (or cropped sweater?) worn last evening.

@ Zile
OMG, a fellow law student Mrs. o addict.....its been crazy, and this is the semester I really need to work hard on my outline, since my contracts teacher is absolutely HORRID!! lol
but I have to admit, watching Mrs. O, and seeing how adored she is in Europe was well worth it :-)
@ Naimi, so true and so sad about the lack of diversity and "ebony" toned women in film as well as on the runways.
I hope these designers are at least hearing about this blog and other blogs that are really calling out for change in this area. We need functional, beautiful, realistic clothes during these times on a whole range of models. They need to wake up--there's a market of us out there and they need to address the consumers. I want to know a designer is inclusive..I'm drawn to that. That they're not just thinking of one skin tone or a size zero. I'm so glad Mrs. O is around to perhaps wake them up to this fact.
Enough about the sleeves already.....If you are going to compliment just do it and respect anyone with arms that toned to wear sleeves or not. Haters, ifyou got up at 4:30AM you would not mind going sleeveless either. Why would a grown, educated, intelligent, mother of two and a powerful husband need someone to tell you how to dress. Yes, professional input is welcomed, but if anyone needs to be fired, it's you. Haters, STAY AWAY FROM THIS POST! How is you little black dress fitting you these days? It's her business and her arms if she wants to go sleevless or not..
another gorgeous outfit for a beautiful 1st lady! The dress looks like it could be strapless...how sexy is that?!? This couple is astounding. Enjoy your private romantic night;-)
Layo,
I'm a law student too, and I'm definitely supposed to be researching for my Legal Research and Writing final that I got yesterday. Instead, I've spent the last two days hitting refresh on this site. Ah well. Good to see I'm not alone!!
That dress is an absolutely perfect fit and shape for Mrs O.

She is stunning in this outfit!I love sheath silouhettes on her. I think this is the black and red dress from the Vogue shoot (You know when she was on the phone). We'll see if I'm right when/if she removes the sweater.
@ Lilly,
I think you may be right!!I have to go dig up my Vogue magazine but I thought this dress looked familiar. The pose while they were staying at the Hay Adams. If it is, Mrs. O sure knows how to recycle while still looking fresh and new.
@ Lilly,
I checked my Vogue magazine in which she is wearing Narciso Rodriguez, but I don't think it is the same dress. If you look closely at the picture in the mag., there's red on the back and in the front around the chest area. I don't see it here with the Prague dress. Plus, the dress length looks longer in the magazine. Hopefully, someone else has a copy of the Vogue and can tell me if I'm right or not.
Per Politico(dot)com: "Michelle Obama, meanwhile, will visit St. Vitus’s Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica with First Lady Livia Klausova, and also tour the Jewish Quarter of Prague, visiting St. Pinka’s Synagogue, the Old Jewish Cemetery and the Old-New Synagogue. The Obamas will depart in the evening for Ankara, Turkey"
So that means we are going to have more of Michelle on the days to come!!!
I found a copy of the Vogue photo online:
http://jezebel.com/5151332/michelle-obama-the-vogue-interview
Hard to tell by the photo what the front neckline would look like since the photo only shows the back.
Mrs. W,
Well that is good news!
I see the Politico calendar has also changed. Earlier today it showed Michelle arriving in D.C. on Monday - now that item is gone. I betcha she was having such a good time she decided to not go home early!
Allisonam,
disliking some of Mrs O's outfits is one thing...that what makes a discussion interesting...
but accusing her of lacking taste,or being ignorant of decorum or protocol or that her advisers don't know what they are doing....that my dear makes a part of a very small minority of trolls.
I doubt very much that you know about fashion more than every fashion editor in Europe or America.
In fact you seem like the kind of person who will get along with Oscar-I am a whiny jealous man-De la Renta
Believe it or not 99.99% of female attorneys that work for prestigious law firms do have a sense of style - otherwise they would not have gotten to where they have gotten - besides credentials IMAGE is very important in those high-dollar firms.
Michelle has known for a long time what is appropriate and not appropriate to wear in public since her attorney days, days of being the wife of a state senator and a U.S. Senator.
As long as Michelle does not walk around barefooted, start wearing dreadlocks, poses nude for a centerfold, or shows up in pajamas - then she will do just fine - and the majority of the time she will be just plain awesome as she has been lately.
Right on Leah D! I saw some older photos of her in evening wear during the senator years in Chicago and Michelle was totally appropriate and high glam. You can imagine all the events and fundraisers it takes to run for public office. POTUS ran for Congress, state and U.S. senate. That is a ton of events. From what I remember, they had events to go to several days a week. So she knows how to do it up for sure. But those were different economic times too. She's keeping her own tastes, the mood of the US and every other country she's going to, that play a factor in her clothing.
Michelle has been to many black tie balls and I always felt she had wonderful taste. She's also an evolving woman, so she's allowed to change if she wants to. But she does have a sense of style that is uniquely her own.
She looks FANTASTIC!
Happening soon...
U.S. EASTERN TIME
2:30am - President Obama and Michelle Obama arrive at the Prague Castle in the Czech Republic
4:00am - President Obama delivers remarks at Hradcany Square
There should be TONS of photos today since Michelle will going to the Prague Castle, attending the President's speech at Hradcany Square, she will be visiting St. Vitus’s Cathedral and St. George’s Basilica and the Jewish Quarter of Prague.
I wonder if she's really going to Turkey with the President. I wonder what changed. The reason she wasn't going to go to Turkey was that she wanted to be home with the girls before school on Monday. Maybe Sasha and Malia are being spoiled rotten while mommy and daddy are gone and told her to stay the entire trip! LOL. I hope she brought enough clothes.
I'm tired. Don't know if I'll be able to make it to 2:30 so I hope to wake up to some beautiful pictures tomorrow morning.
tess, I'm thinking they have backup clothes along, so she can wear those. I hope she does go to Turkey, I am sure the girls are fine with their grandmother.
Janelle, remember she has a sweater on, once she removes it, maybe we'll see.
So... Michelle lost her colors. It's a little boring. She wore a black skirt and cardigan and a white top with a big bow..... and her favorite belt Azzedine. I dislike this outfit and i'm disappointed. Fortunately Tomorrow is another day.
I'm confused. Are there new pictures of Michelle in Prague somewhere?
Michelle is killing my sleep, it is 3 am and I am watching CNN, Obama is about to make a speech in Prague, I just caught a glimpse of Mrs O's outfit, its black and white
OMG!! I STYAED UP FOR THE PRAGUE SPEECH!!
MICHELLE JUST KILLED IT DEAD!!! BEST OUTFIT OF THE TRIP!!!!!!
white tip, with huge bow, and black skirt, and her favortie Alia belt!!
Layo me too, I should be asleep,
OMG Michelle! The Bow OMGGGGGG, I love it, this might be my favorite outfit of the entire trip. This is why I say whatever to people who say she should wear suits like other FLOTUS, she is all her own and I love it
OOOOH My OOOOOH My Michelle in Prague, the white blouse with a bow is a HIT, she looks stunning and brings a lovely spring feel to the whole event. Another 10!
Yes there are new pictures of Mrs O, you can do a general search ror: michelle Obama Yahoo Photos
More pictures of Mrs O, on: Michelle Obama daylife
What an historic speech. The crowd loves them as they work the rope line - hugs for Michelle. She looks beautiful and very happy.
Nothing like a beautiful white blouse. I wonder if it's similar to the one she wore under the Alaia jacket? Lots of good pix at yahoo.
Sorry folks it my be eyes here, could this be the same bow blouse and azzedine belt from France, minus the Jacket and cardigan?
Mrs O looks lovely and there are 30,000 People in Prague to hear our President. History unfolding right before our eyes.
Seriously! Call me style-challenged, bur I am just not feeling that bow! She should have kept on that amazing black dress she came down fron the plane in. It seems that Mrs. O is Hit and Miss on this trip. It's like every superb outfit is followed by a dud.
The HUGE bow is a no-no. The sweater must go. The belt worn with this outfit makes her look high-waisted.
I think she looks terrific! Only Mrs O can pull off that bow. She rocked it!
I think the bow is very eye catching in the thick crowd, Mrs O stands out and looks fresh in this silky white blouse, there is nothing fussy about this look,a perfect choice for a morning oufit. The oufit in moving pictures is even better. Wow what a lady.
My only grind with this outfit, is that the blouse and belt are on repeat from France (worn YESTERDAY).
I know these are tough economic times but that cardigan could and should be retired! I cant wait for her to bare her arms, she will look awesome, perfect choice on the skirt and shoes! This one is definitely a HIT. What a fashion show, I dont think we've had a first Lady or a celebrity for that matter in our life time who has kept us so fixated on her every SINGLE move.
I lovvvvve that white blouse! Very nice! Something about the belt though...it's my favorite belt but as she was walking, it looked to have moved its position and sat up too high in some of the pictures. Some pics show it in the right place, in others it rides up. But the outfit as a whole really has a great look considering the emphasis needed to be on her husband's speech.
I adore the white blouse. And yes, only Mrs. O could pull that off.
Cardigan gone! OOH she has slipped on a black coat, she looks awesome, the blouse looks awesome with the coat too,WOW.
Kim,
Where do you see the black coat?!
The black coat/jacket has now appeared and it looks wonderful with the white blouse. Michelle really knows how to change up a very basic outfit and make it pop and sizzle with changing just one or two things.
She's giving me some great ideas.
Where are you all see the black coat. Please direct us to it.
I see only one photo with the black coat jacket on daylife(dot)com. Then I queried for Michelle Obama. If anyone has more info, please advise.
From what I can tell from the series of photos, when Mrs. O was wearing the cardigan, every time she raised her arm to wave at the crowds, the belt rode up. And then it looks like she later adjusted it. Still beautiful all around.
Leah D, why wouldn't she have dreadlocks? There are so many professional black women out there wearing dreadlocks. I am one of them. We don't look frumpy weird or anything, we still look classy. I don't understand this idea that categorizes certain hair styles as "too ethnic" or "too political", therefore unclassy. It's simply not true. I know the issue black hair isn't discussed much in broader society. But I wish more people would look beyond the preconceived ideas about black natural hair.
Anyway I just saw Today's Prage pictures on daylife. She looks soo nice! I love the white shirt, I don't mind the big bow, I think it's a classic look but with a nice twist. But I'm wondering why so much Black though? I wish she didn't tone things down for 3 looks in a row. Hopefully she'll wear something colorful in Istanbul. The city is beautiful and full of lively colors. Can't wait! btw I thought Sasha and Malia were part of the trip? I remember POTUS mentioned that they would all go on a trip together and will get the dog at their returned. I assumed they wanted to keep the girls out of the limelight. eh maybe they changed their minds. Either way I'm sure they love their mother's fashion choices!
The mind blowing arrogance of folks like Nonpasserat would be amusing if it weren't so sad and tittering on the verge of delusional...
To actually presume that 3 inch shoes where quickly plucked from the sky in response to criticisms from anonymous posters on a blog; and drop earrings quickly ordered mid trip is so arrogantly ridiculous, its sad and pathetic!
Clearly every outfit for this trip was pre planned and there has been no shopping trips along the way as evidenced by the fact that most of the accessories worn are easily recognizable to anyone who's followed Mrs Obama's fashion-
Speaking of which, fashion is uniquely personal and undeniably subjective; to presume to know better what another ought to wear, makes one look rather silly and eternally narcissistic...
Just saw the Prague pictures--that shirt with the bow is spectacular (and BTW *not* the same as the one she had yesterday, yesterday's shirt was a small tie, today is a very big puffy bow). I see the problem with the belt riding up but she still rocked that blouse. Now I want to hear our president giving that speech.
Everyone, I do have to say the blouse looks especially stunning on TV!!! Wow, it really looks chic while they are walking together on the stage before his speech and waving at the crowds. Even though I wanted to see color today on Mrs. O, the design and whiteness of the blouse gives the same effect or pizazz as color when you see it on TV. I can only imagine how it looked in person. The photos don't do it justice.
Stunning blouse and cute pencil skirt. The blouse should have been more fitted to her waist so she could lose the belt cause it's riding up too much. And I actually like the flats with this outfit in particular. I think flats with a pencil skirt is really cute. I just don't like them with dresses.
I just saw the latest Prauge pictures on daylife as well. Definately the low point fashion wise of the trip for me. I found the outfit boring and made MrsO look a little wide. Black and white is not really the issue for me, it can look crisp and lovely, as evidence by the dress/sweater combo she wore to meet the Queen and later to dinner. The blouse definately should have been tucked in.
Is that a suit jacket or a sweater? The first picture I saw looked like a suit jacket, then it begin to look more like a cardigan. I bet MrsO pulls up her sleeves so much because she is used to compensating for her long arms and things not falling at the right place. I know I have done similar things for years and I am not quite as tall as Mrs.O.
BTW, the dress that she wore when they landed was sheer perfection!!! I wish I had words to discribe it, but I do not. The fit, fabric, length...everything hits the right note!
I think its absurd that some people think Mrs O and her team gathered feedback and changed looks for her mid-trip.
Or to think she didn't have each look planned out well in advance...
I love the black dress.. sleek, simple and sexy...
I like the black/white combo as well. I am partial to tops like this. I have several. I love looks with a unique top and simple bottom.
Don't like the belt with it though.
All in all she's done very well.
All you notice is that gorgeous blouse on TV, and when she's walking (not evident in the photos) the blouse has boldness, movement, and bounce and looks very crisp for the morning event.
