An Evening in Prague

President Mr. O and First Lady Mrs. O have landed in Prague for the evening, where they're rumored to have scheduled a romantic dinner date. The First Lady wears another fantastic little black dress, paired with the bolero (or cropped sweater?) worn last evening.

nonpasserat said "And when she puts on a clown suit, I’m not going to say, Wow! she’s really working the big red nose! She’s having fun with the floppy shoes! Love love LOVE the fake boutonniere that squirts water!"

I wonder what your clown suits look like, because I believe everyone human being sure has 'em.
And I really hope you have people who are honest enough to point out your "wierd" hair days.

In whose style bible is "OUT" derived from? - it would be interesting to know who set those standards. Because as you may or may not know true style icons "create" their own looks without imitating thats why they earn our respect!.
Yes, you are right, we respect her as confident woman, who is not afraid of expressing herself and is comfortable in her own skin, to wear what she pleases, after all she is FLOTUS. Yes, Leave Michelle Alone!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You know, if the poster's name was at the top of their post, we could skip right by nonpasserat's. As it is, it takes a sentence or two to realize the jealous one is at it again.

You got that right, Janelle. We Brits over here were going crazy over Michelle. Even the Queen was so enamored that she ended up breaking her OWN protocol. Don't beleive what the press say. No one over here was upset with Michelle hugging the Queen especially since the Queen has her hand on her lower back. I must say that I am British born and bred and I have never seen the Queen so receptive to anyone in my whole life. Michelle truly is an infectious inspiration.

@ nonpasserat,

Could you please share with us a couple of your pics so we can weigh in on your spectacular fashion sense and expertise?

I don't like all MO's ensembles but most of us refrain from being patronizing and condescending.
I'm sure you'd meet First Lady Michelle, you wouldn't dare share your "expert" remarks with her- you wouldn't do it to your friends because it's rude and insulting!

It's so easy to hide behind a computer screen and crown oneself as the matron of fashion and appropriateness.
Let me remind you that when you point a finger at someone, there are three fingers pointed at YOU.

Like we say in my home country France: "les gouts et les couleurs ne se discutent pas".
Literally it says: Tastes and colors don't need to be argued. And the meaning is that each one is different and that you don't have to judge others' tastes.

Please be in peace :)

Thanks PalGirl2008,

You took the words out of my mouth; the only reason why there are so many blogs and why so many poeple follow her is because of her willingness to take risks with designers, colors and styles; If she turns into what you're proposing there's no point in following what she wears; hang in there sweetie you'll figure it out one day.

I pray Michelle never changes her style!

Mrs. Obama looks gorgeous. She has her very own style sense, and I love the fact that she changes it up. From urbane black to beautiful colors, from kitten heels to pumps to flats, from full skirts to pencil skirts.
I am a lover of cardigans, and yes, I even loved the argyle cardigan she wore to the girls' school in Great Britan. I want one, but $800 is a bit out of my budget at this time.
Does anyone know what Mrs. O uses to maintain her beautiful skin? She always looks flawless!!

Cissy, Oprah should ask her about her skin care and then pass the info along to us. One hopes.

im glad she takes risks
Michelle said she's not a fashionista
but she just loves clothes
it's okay not to like what she wears sometimes
but some people have been getting down right nasty
im so glad Michelle doesn't pay any attention to so called internet fashion experts
she wears what she want's and im glad she does
let Michelle be Michelle

I agree, Trudy!! If anyone can get to Michelle's secret to a beautiful complexion, it would be Oprah!!!

nonpasserat, My favorite dress was the Isabel Toledo black and white dress. I love the way the skirt was pleated and I thought it was incredibly flattering on Mrs. O's figure and coloring. So there you go. Fashion is not right or wrong, just a matter of taste.

@ nonpasserat

while I do not agree with you, im not going to attack you (and I believe others should not attack you either) because while provocative, you gave constructive criticism (although the "clown" comment went too far, I don't ever recall her looking like a clown), but anyways, it is your opinion, and I think we should welcome all different constructive opinions (but not demonizing or hateful opinions) on this site, otherwise, this site does turn to mush, and will only narrow the people who visit the site

In my own opinion however, i think your suggestions describes every other (not so daring, not so fashion forward) first ladies. Do you remember what Laura Bush wore to her first over seas trip? or Hillary Clinton? But I bet those who are truly fashion lovers remember what Jackie O wore, or what even Nancy Reagan wore to inauguration.....what you describe (the neutrals, and subtle picks) is so typically boring first lady, and not fashion forward as Michelle is. I love that she likes bold colors, and quirky little pieces and brooches. I mean, people are not excited by her fashion because she "blends" or is "subtle," we are excited because she surprises us, and is exciting with her choices.

Also, I cannot ever imagine Michelle changing her style to fit some sort of stepford wife role, then it would not be her. People connect to her because she stays true to herself, and is so REAL, and that is one thing I would never want her to change, and that includes her style.

This just goes to show you cannot please everyone, but for everyone to be ga ga over her style (including MANY professionals in the fashion world), she must be doing something right, and I truly hope she does not change, nor adopt some of the colors and style you suggest

I respect your opinion, but I quite simply disagree

here is to many more years of Mrs. O being daring, and unconventional and staying true to her style!

Rocky--That lady grabbing to kiss the president is a security risk. I'm glad his detail pulled her off. As for Mr. Obama bowing to the king of Saudi Arabia, its a sign of respect and totally on par with protocol. The Obama haters are making something out of nothing.

C'mon, ladies, give "nonpasserant" a break. She speaks the truth and, thankfully, she also makes some very good points. Is it any surprise that Mrs. Obama has presented herself more tastefully in France than she did in England? Of course, they've made mid-tour corrections.

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 6:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterNancy

I just love her wardrobe!!! I love the simplicity of her style yet it makes a bold statement. Very classy! Very chic! This is definitely a woman young girls and women in general should be looking up to for her kindness, strength and intelligence which is nicely accented with her great style.

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 6:18 PM | Unregistered Commenterlizz

There was no need for "mid-tour corrections"; she was perfect! Mrs.O and advisors are much smarter than their critics. UK is a pretty conservative country and she dressed accordingly there, France and Germany are more fashion forward and she dressed appropriately while there. I am so proud of our FLOTUS! Classy and naturally warm - I love it!

The First Lady looks so happy coming down AF1 in Prague. She's really represented us so well, and I know her daughters and mother are happy too.

Michelle is really courageous, daring and downright brave. I love a gutsy woman. I hope the Prez always remembers what he has because she did us Americans proud! They both did. The right wingers are already plotting against this stunning mocha beauty...and they can't stand it. How dare other countries like her. I know she's not perfect and will make stumbles in the future, but I am so proud of this woman.

I'm loving my own curves more and more thanks to Michelle.

Same critisim when Bush kissed and held hands with the king, who really cares? People put so much emphasis on these gestures its crazy. Who cares? Does that make him less of a man? When Bush kissed him, did that make him his wife? Stop reading into these stupid things.

This week has been a fashion marathon and now what am going to do next week? I'm sure her schedule slows down until the Easter Egg Roll and her commencement speeches.

But I know if I were Michelle, I couldn't wait to get back home and get into my pantsuits. This has been a great site to come to this week but I haven't gotten any work done and my inbasket is filled to the brim.

NICE SHE DID WEAR THE SAME SWEATER LAST NICE I GUESS SHE WAS COLD I LOVE HER DRESS AND SHOES. MR OBAMA NEED TO WEAR SOMETHING ELSE BESIDE A SUITE MAYBE A SLAKE PANTS AND A SHIRT AND JACKET IT IS A WEEKEND AND HE DRESS DOWN ON WEEKENDS. THAT WHAT HE SAID IF HE HAVE TO WORK ON A SATURDAY OR SUNDAY HE DRESS DOWN NO JEANS BUT HE DRESSED WILL.

Thanks for the photo link to the teal Jason Wu dress worn in London without the cardigan! That outfit was so beautiful. The argyle cardigan was my least favorite, but the sleeveless dress underneath was just beautiful. I saw a picture of the dress only the other day, but that pose was nice. It should be in Vogue magazine the way she is standing.

Mrs.O is dazzling according to the President, the moment he saw her. Now the world is seeing it too. Mrs.O said that they are much closer today than ever before. We can see that closeness too.

i don't know who will get the role of these sexy beautiful people (denzel where are you for the bo part) but i can't wait to see it on big screen......specially this first euro trip part as well as when they first met.

Well, I did go out and get some water and food. It was so difficult to leave this post. Thank you, Mrs. T....Are there any pics for tonight's dinner? I am sad/happy that Mrs. O is coming home. I need to do some work and get some needed sleep. They are just so awesome. Speaking from a mother's point of view, it is such a comforting feeling to know that the girls are safe, protected with the persons who instilled your morals. I am so loving this experience. I have never been so involved in my life. Let's keep encouraging Michelle as she encourages us so that our young girls will know that they are diamonds regargless of what the media, fashion magazines and what some fashion designers try to dictate what women should wear. Some of their designs are just not funcntional, practicle and hangs off size 0 modes. When are they going to realize that look does not work for working, intelligent, common sense women. Michelle, stay Michelle.....

OMG! Layo G I am on the same boat as you. I had to unplug my computer today so I could some reading done. I am way behind on outlining because I have been sooooo obsessed with Mrs. O's sartorial choices this week! LOL

They look wonderful and I absolutely want this dress and the black and white one, and the one she wore last night, and that J Crew skirt. Oh and I want those pumps from last night as well. Hehe, too bad Mrs. O doesn't have my address.

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 8:47 PM | Unregistered CommenterZile

Another gorgeous outfit. I loved every single thing she was wearing in this European trip. Isn't it sad when Oscar de la Renta criticised Michelle. I was a buyer of his clothes, but never again. Queen obviously found Michelle amusing, she really didn't care that Michelle was wearing a sweater. I don't think Michelle is going to wear his clothes ever again.

Toi22, the only actress who could do justice to the part of our beautiful first lady Michelle Obama is the stunning and gifted Viola Davis. Check Viola out on the current cover of Ebony. She's a natural for the part!

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 9:00 PM | Unregistered Commenterlyric

@ Toi22 and lyric,

I like Regina King (Jerry McGuire/Enemy of the State). She's a great underappreciated actress with a range of softness and toughness and killer arms like Michelle. Sorry, my vote goes for POTUS to Will Smith. After seeing Ali, I know he's got the chops to do Barack. Also...he's got the ears and POTUS has already stated numerous times that he wants Will Smith if a movie is ever done.

Finally an outfit that looks great, the black jacket and dress to match and it has sleeves,WOW! praise God! I was beginning to worry about this First Lady sense of style, still some her clothes are just ghastly. The red and black flowered thing she wore overseas, black with yellow inside like a bird coming off air force one, same thing with that red and black thing at his acceptance night. And why the J.Crew they are clingy, brother this First Lady needs a stylist or she has to fire the one she has.

I don't know what you were looking at. Every single fashion editor around the world praised choices Michelle made during the week. I like to see what your wardrobe is like, then we can all make a judegement about you.

Saturday, April 4, 2009 at 9:17 PM | Unregistered Commentermenukjau

@ Janelle, Its actually hard to think of many "ebony " stylish leading actresses who could fill Mrs O shoes, because those roles are too few and far between, thats Hollywood and thats what we have been buying into.

I would still give Denzel the part for POTUS, the man is just the epitome of class, talent and intelligence. Yes Will my strike a slight resemblence, but Denzel is a class at

I say put some 3 inch heels on Regina King (even though we know Michelle loves flats and kitten heels), and film her from the waist up most of the time and use special effects to lengthen out for full body shots! I have to see my girl Regina with Will Smith. Nothing else will do for me!
