On the Campaign Trail

The First Lady has returned from London and is back on the campaign trail, making two stops in North Carolina today to rally volunteer support. The effort is part of a lead up to the Democratic National Convention, which will be held in Charlotte, North Carolina in early September.
In Raleigh, Mrs. O wore a yellow floral Tracy Reese dress (previously seen in April 2011, here) to meet campaign supporters. In Greensboro, Mrs. O wore a navy and white stripe dress for a speech at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro.
Update: Thanks to reader "Nellypoo" who spots Mrs. O's blue and white stripe dress as the BCBGMAXAZRIA Pleated V-Neck Sweater Dress, available here.

Mrs O is just a lovely first lady...she represents the USA well!
I am so jealous of those ladies, I'd give my right arm for a hug from the first lady. One a slightly different note, if money were no object I would wear designs by Tracy Reese, Barbara Tfank and Rachel Roy until the end of my days. That dress is gorgeous !
Both dresses are gorgeous!
Back to the designer duds. Pathetic how the liberal media slams Ann Romney and gives a thumbs up and never says one word about Mrs. Obama's expensive clothes. Double standard.
The blue and white dress at the bottom is BCBG. I thought about gettin it for myself, but I was undecided...thank you Mrs. I!!
Love you Jestina! London ain't bad either. :-) Love FLOTUS in the floral dress, not so much in the strips. That said, she is just a fabulous woman no matter what she is wearing.
THEY LOVE HER, THEY REALLY REALLY LOVE HER!!!!
And so do I :-)
Both dresses are cute.
I've always loved that Tracy Reese dress - something about the combination of yellow and gray. The BCBG is a really different look for her. Not something I would have expected on her - more like a Kate Middleton look. Have we ever seen her in a sweater dress before? She looks fabulous in it.
I'm really liking the black and white dress. It reminds me of a dress I saw Marilyn Monroe wearing in a pic. Lovely. First Lady Rocks
The Tracy Reese dress is perfect and the vertical stripes of the BCBGMAXAZRIA are flattering; I'd wear both!
Alison, who cares what Ann is wearing? Take your bad vibes elsewhere.
Oh, and saw additional pictures of the stripped dress. Not bad! :-)
No No No, the DOC in that black and white dress would be all kinds of wrong. She is skinny as it is, and the stripes will make her look even skinnier.
This dress is just divine on her. Just love the lines, so graceful.
Alison: Why so much hatergade today? We all are trying to enjoy FLOTUS attire and personal style - nothing about Mrs. Romney here!!!
dear allison,
i am interested in reading the articles negatively portraying ann romney for her fashion choices. can you direct me to any specific articles? i am not doubting you, and but i am a teacher and i would love to use the example of bias in the news. please let me know! in the meantime, i'll peek around too. (in full disclosure, i heart the first lady and her sense of style...i look at this site weekly as it gives me inspiration as i try to add fashion and fitness and fun to my busy life as a working mom of two!)
Ann Romney was criticized for wearing a $990 shirt from Reed Krakoff in May. A story from Politico can be found here. That said, Mrs. O has also been criticized for the expense of her wardrobe at times (notable example: $540 Lanvin sneakers in April 2009) so I don't think it's fair to say there's a double standard.
I like the sweater dress. Regarding the criticism - Mrs. Obama has been wearing many repeats over the past couple of months, no doubt to avoid criticism during the campaign. I'm glad she finally splashed out a bit for the Olympics.
@ Mrs. T, you do not owe Alison any explanations for this site you've created for Mrs. O. I, as well as many, many others appreciate you doing this.
so much for the double standard theory....
Remember how Mrs. O was savaged by the conservative media for wearing a cardigan to meet the Queen of England. Many saw it as an insult, which it wasn't. Well this time the First Lady of the United States was appropriately attired to meet Her Majesty and other heads of state and she is savaged for spending too much of her own money. Can we stop being childish and stop the yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh, yeh.
Happy Birthday to Mrs. O's oh so lovely husband, President Barack Obama!!! I'm sure Mrs. O will give him a great birthday gift today, hehehehehe!!!
Btw, I agree with you SoccerNana!
Alison you are right on. I am tired of this public ploy of wearing economical clothing "like the rest of us" and then all these designer dresses. Quit playing acting like you are something that you aren't. And shame on the news media for their skewed values.
Wow....must be a slow day on the Ann Romney fashion blog....
WOW! ......."public ploy" ........... RELENTLESS!
And the reason that you are attracted to this site is _______________. Please feel free to fill in the blank. The vast majority of us understood the purpose of this blog was to have fun watching Mrs. Michelle Obama's fashion choices, or as Mrs. T states, "chronicling the fashion & style of First Lady Michelle Obama". I am surprised that people who obviously have such disdaindn for her are even attracted to this site, yet alone would bother to take the time and energy to comment. You guys are too funny!
Oh, by the way, she looks fantastic in both outfits. She is slaying that BCBG sweater dress......gotta love our Michelle!
WHAT CID SAID x infinity!!!!!
Allison and Cleo: Negative energy! You always have the option of establishing a site for Mrs. Romney that would apparently be to your liking and postive energy flow since you do not like this site. Please stop raining on our collective respect and interest in FLOTUS!!!
Thanks CID!!
Kisses to CID and AMEN!
I enjoy following Mrs Obama's fashion. All her clothes are beautiful. I think what the "haters" ( I would never use such an angry and defensive term ) are talking about is the perceived, or real hypocrisy of the Obama's. On the one hand they tell us to go work for non-profits (The President said this in a commencement speech a few years ago) and they rail against the "rich", but then Mrs.O spends a fortune on her clothing. I work for a non-profit, Big Brothers and Big Sisters. The money stinks! Thank god I am married to a man in the financial business so I can indulge in my love of fashion. If they would just stop the 99% vs 1% talk maybe people would not be so offended by her clothing budget. As an aside, I never wear my designer clothing to work out of sensitivity to my clients.
I don't get it, if she wears a cardigan she is belittling the office of the First Lady, if she wears designer clothing, she spends too much money on clothes. Please make up your minds.
saf, please try that nice nasty SugarHoneyIceTea somewhere else. If anyone is a hypocrite, it's you!! Coming on here with that, "I love Mrs. O fashion" bull. Keep it 100 and don't sugar coat your dislike for My President and his wife. Be a real woman or man and say what you feel. Obviously, you don't like them enough to come on a blog DEDICATED to Mrs. O to throw veiled insults at her and her husband. Don't throw rocks and hide honey because you are not commenting with a bunch of fools. You should know that because we're smart enough to be supporters of the BEST First Couple ever! I feel sorry for the little girls and boys that you work with. I wish they could be around someone like Mrs. O in her $500 sneakers rather than you in a $30 pair.
I think the whole discussion of what a First Lady of the United States spends on her clothing is a little ridiculous. If she didn't dress well, everyone would scream and shout that she disrespects the U.S. and is not representing her country in the appropriate manner. She wears a great mix of designer, mid-range and budget-priced clothing and looks fashionable and lovely. I see no hypocrisy; the Obamas do not "rail against the rich" but instead rail against inequities in our tax codes and other systems that give the wealthy unfair advantages. That has nothing to do with the First Lady's wardrobe, which is what we come to this site to celebrate and enjoy.
saf, you make absolutely no sense.
OMG so much nastiness all the way around. So sad.
saf, saf, tsk, tsk...
Hi guys she is a very cute lady in a very attractive dress.
I am curious, does Mrs O have a stylist? I have read that when she lived in Chicago Ikram Goldman offered her advise, does anyone do that for her now?
@ McKinley, you are so correct!
*yawns, stretches*
Is there an election coming up? Because I smell hypocrite and BS all over this blog all of a sudden. People who didn't post at all for the last four years, suddenly popping up with an opinion on ..... Anne Romney vs Michelle Obama? Buzz off. This is a style blog. So Anne Romney wouldn't get a look in because she hasn't got any. Plus, she isn't Mrs O. (The CLUE is IN the NAME...)
So, let's take it item by item:
1. Mrs O wears high street clothes frequently, not just on the campaign trail. Which, if you'd hung around here for the last four years and not since you started getting paid to badmouth her, you'd know.
2. One of the dresses above has been worn before. Maybe you missed that bit.
3. The O's do volunteer work, always did do volunteer work, bring up their children to do volunteer work and are encouraging others to give of their free time to help the vulnerable. Is that too complicated? I tried to use short words.
4. Mrs O is married to a millionaire and can buy the clothes that she feels like buying.
5. Mrs O is an ambassador for American fashion.
6. Her choices have earned billions for the US fashion industry, as every item that she wears, shoes, jewellery and clothes, sell out within hours of her being pictured in them. So you *could* say, if you had a brain, that she was doing her part to a) raise the profile of the US fashion industry, b) keep it profitable and c) keep people spending, which is how you reverse an economic slump. Did I go too fast for you?
7. The President encouraged people to work for non-profits. OMG! HERESY! HYPOCR.... no, wait - what? Didn't he leave a high paid corporate law job to go and work in community service? Non-profit, you say.... Oh. So I guess he's speaking from his heart about projects that help real people with real problems, and knows what it's like to be in public service rather than the corporate money-grabbing sector that got us into the recession in the first place BUT I DIGRESS....
8. Gosh you people are predictable.
Hahahaha, the ish just got real up in here!!! My girl Posh is on the stage and she just pulled out a can of Whoop A@#!!! Posh you're brilliant!! You are the mutt's nutt, for real!!( hmmm, wonder where I learned that phrase?)
Yep, it's election year and the trolls (both paid and just plain ole ignorant) will be out in full force. I hope they're ready because I'm FIRED UP and READY TO GO!!!
Well said, Posh! As usual. I so miss the days when our Lounge Ladies were on here regularly and we could have discussions that made sense, and were at least marginally correct grammar- and spelling-wise.
Personally, I have no enthusiasm for an Ann/Michelle discussion, in large part because most of the time Ann does not do anything of sartorial interest. I don't fine it interesting that she wore a t-shirt on national television that had at least one very large and unattractive fish on it. That is not interesting - just puzzling. I don't care how much it cost, she should have thrown that one back.
OpFan, I miss our lounge chats also :-( I learned so much from you very wise women. It was great to have deep and sometimes heated discussions. The diversity was brilliant and the differing opinions really made me think. Hopefully, one day we can try to get it started up again. Who knows?
It has been a week since we have had an update on Mrs O. I am ready to see what she has been up to (and wearing).
Thanks Posh!
Yeah...Posh Tater you "broke it down"....hmmm 4 more years!
Hey. I love this blog so much and I've been following it since 2008! But I've noticed a slowdown in posting and it's made me kind of sad :( Are there less updates than there were in the past? Is more reader contribution needed to keep the frequency going. Because I wouldn't mind sending in my Mrs O spottings for you to write about.
You go Posh!
Long live Nyon and Posh!!!
@ Posh Tater,
You leave no hostages! I love it!
Mrs. T: I really want to know why you "settled" for crumbs basically when you were invited to the WH just to photograph the tables for a state dinner (last year). My niece and her husband have been invited to the WH twice and they are not even obama supporters. I think obama knows he can count on your support, so he doesn't really have to do much for you because, frankly, you'll "settle" for something other than the best.
