Back to Business

The Obamas traveled back to the White House on Wednesday just hours following the election. Boarding Air Force One at Chicago O'Hare International Airport, Mrs. O revisited two style favorites: her famed Alaia belt and a wool and silk boucle coat from Duro Olowu.

Love this look. So practical, so chic.
Such a classic! This coat is the sprinkles on top of a perfect week of fashion. The gloves; the belt; the purse. This outfit is saying " . . . and I helped"!!! Would love to own this coat! Thank you Mrs. T and I hope you and yours are doing much better! 4 MORE YEARS!
I am so glad that things are back to where they should be. I've been a keen lurker on this site from day one and this is my first post. I tell you, election night was a source of much anxiety for your cousins in the north and it is a great relief to see our dear southern friends back in safe hands. Also, to see Mrs O fearlessly dress with style, grace, with an eye to beauty and economy as she showed on election night is wonderful. I look forward to the Inauguration Ball so much. Thank you for this site, Mrs T and for all your hard work; I hope you are safe again in your home.
I love this picture! the First Lady looks gorgeous and the whole family is so rad. Good luck President Obama!
I just want to chime in with my appreciation for the website. I learn so much reading the comments AND I learn so much about what is happening with the President and his family simply by watching Mrs. Obama's clothes. THANK YOU MRS. T. This website that celebrates fashion also is a force for civic engagement and awareness!
Yes, Back to Business indeed...running the country and Back to the Business of sharing great style with us! Perfect look for the First Lady as she returns to the White House. Welcome Gert418.
This coat is so versatile. I love how the First Lady changes the look with different accessories.
I wanted to ask whether anyone else thought that Mrs. O didn't make many appearances the week before the election. I scanned Huffington Post and Obama diary and found a few, but not as many as I would have expected. Any thoughts, anyone?
And Mrs. T, your absence reminded me of how great this site is! So good to have you back!!!
I agree. I want this coat, It is so beautiful. Just saw a similar less expensive one in the Talbot's catalog. Mrs Obama's height makes this a classic look. Great picture.
I love when Mrs. O wears all black in the winter with some kind of fabulous splash of color. Winter chic!
The whole look is very polished. Can barely wait for the inaugural dress.
I am not sure why Ms. Obama's travels during the last week of the campaign may not have been widely reported. However, she campaigned extensively even during the final week. She appeared at my alma mater, Virginia State University, in Petersburg, Virgnia on Friday, November 2. Whereas I was not there I heard the speech live on NPR. Also, on Thursday, November 1, she was in Jacksonville, Florida and on Monday, November 5, she was in Charlotte, North Carolina, just to name a few.
Mrs. O looks terrific. I love the three-quarter length sleeve with the long leather gloves.
Fascinating – I’ve noticed something great about her fashion statement. That, many outfits are “timeless” can be worn regardless of the “In Look” E.g. fabric etc. as in the coat above, can match with so many things in a wardrobe.
And why is this so important and should be emulated?
1. Takes the worry out of trying to set out too many accessories
2. If one has to rush out and have events day/evng. will work perfectly –
3. Worry free about co-ordination with scarves etc.
@ Jestina, I think we're all waiting anxiously for that! I know our Michelle is going to set it on fire!
Quick question.....where did our little girls go? Both of them are such lovely young ladies now! There was never a doubt about it.
Well, as Mrs. T said, "back to business" and WELCOME HOME!
I love the handbag - any idea where it is from?
@cauthornewhite, thanks for listing those appearances. I couldn't imagine why the campaign wouldn't want her out there. I guess the media had enough to cover with all the candidates.
Love this picture !
Love the girls' style! Sasha's Nikes are so cute!
Keep up the great work, glad to see 4 more years. I also love the handbag, any idea on the brand? Thanks, Kathleen
I wrote to Duro Olowu and they do not register the coat as theirs I believe. do you know which collection it is from?
Hello Mrs T: I wish to know if you have the info from good source that the wool and silk coat Mrs Obama is wearing is Duro Olowu because I have written to Duro and they dont seem to recognize it. Thanks!! Marta.
The New York Times has a nice story on the smart styles of Mrs. Obama and the Obama daughters. I only wish the Times had mentioned the fabulous Mrs-O website!

Big sigh of relief, hope the next four years see much more of the president's agenda accomplished.
And what beautiful young women Sasha and Malia are turning into!
Marta, my records indicate that it is indeed Duro Olowu. I heard directly from the designer's representative when Mrs. Obama first wore the coat in December 2011. It's from the Duro Olowu Fall/Winter 2011 collection. Please see look 12: http://www.style.com/fashionshows/complete/slideshow/F2011RTW-DOLOWU/#12
Thanks Mrs T!!
I sincerely hope that we do not have to look at this belt for the next four years. Please, Mrs. O., get it our of your closet!
