Coming Soon: Runway to Win

Tuesday will mark the launch of Runway to Win, a collaboration between the Obama-Biden campaign and 22 designers who have created merchandise that will raise funds for the President's reelection efforts. Per WWD:

"The initiative will officially bow Thursday, when an e-commerce site at runwaytowin.com will launch to sell products from participating designers, who include Marc Jacobs, Tory Burch, Diane von Furstenberg, Narciso Rodriguez, Jason Wu, Alexander Wang, Joseph Altuzarra, Rag & Bone, Rachel Roy and Tracy Reese. The designs include T-shirts, tote bags, scarves and wristlets, with all proceeds going to the Obama Victory Fund."

I tried to log onto the website you mentioned but I do not have a zip code. Further I used my phone number and that was rejected as well. Some of us do live in the "rest of the world"!

Really? What designers or entertainers do privately is one thing, but I am personally so sick of the strident 'brand' partisanship that I boycott ANYONE using their brand for political purposes - both sides of the aisle.

I totally agree wih Nonpartisanfashionista. Fashion designers stay out of the poliical arena.

That sounds good but I would have to invent a phone no as well. This is a problem when purchasing online but I can usually find an acceptable "zip" code to get past these eagle eyes. this time I'll pass

I will work a few extra hours at my minimum wage job so that I can afford a wristlet. That's the least I can do for my president and his re-election. I am that committed...every little counts.
Designers can do what ever they want. They don't need to be told who and what to support!

Lol!

The fake outrage and indignation of "nonpartisan" and "dani" is rib tickling funny!

Try again folks!

I think this is a great idea and I fully intend on supporting it. I'm excited to see what the merchandise will look like!

I know that some people are bothered when designers, actors and other public people endorse a political party. It reminds me of something that happened to me a couple of years ago. There's a grocer in my area that I frequent quite often. This is one of the most generous and caring family men you'll ever meet. He's been known to give people credit when they run short and cannot pay for their food. Well, I saw him one weekend with his family at the movies. It was kind of strange not seeing him behind the counter at his store. When I was leaving, I noticed the car they rode in had a John McCain/Sarah Palin bumper sticker on it. I must admit that I was taken aback at first. But I told myself, "get over yourself". His character is what counts.

disappointing?
The US fashion industry has benefitted from the first lady's advocacy and visibility, so i thought it was a good idea that they publicly support the reelection. But this collection is a little disappointing. Maybe the campaign could stretch beyond putting these designs on sub-par-styled Ts and boring canvas totes. The scarf is interesting and the wristlet idea is original. The designs deserve to be printed on more interesting media and the supporters who want to buy and wear them deserve better, too.
