Back to Washington

Photo by Andrew Harrer / Getty Images

The First Family arrived back in Washington this morning, trading resort wear for their winter wardrobes. Mrs. O looked chic in a grey check wrap coat and pants, adding a pop of color with blue leather gloves.

Does anyone know where Malia's coat is from? That is super cute!

This is the second year in a row I have not liked what Mrs. O has worn when returning to the White House from Hawaii. I think I would like the coat if it was more slimming. As for Malia and Sasha, I love what they are wearing! Their individual style is so interesting and a combination of my style when I was younger. Sasha seems to dress very classic and young-lady like, while Malia dresses edgy yet appropriate... and vice-versa!

I believe Mrs. O's coat is from Talbot's, but sold out. Mailia's coat, I believe comes from J. Crew

What about Lil Sasha's coat? LOVE IT!

They look well rested, I do hope the trip was as enjoyable for them as the photos were for us...I hate to admit it but I'm glad they're home ...to me home for them is the White House, where I always want them to be.....1600 Pennsylvania Ave., that's where they belong.

Mrs. O's coat is the double face wool coat from Talbots!

I love all of the coats and those blue gloves!

WELCOME BACK POSH TATER!! You're back just in time. Ish is about to get real out here for 2012 and you know Mrs. O will be out there front and center touting all her man's accomplishments. I LOVE IT!!

All the Obama ladies look fashionable, but I would rock the hell out of Sasha's shoes! Maybe even with an Obama 2012 sweatshirt or hoodie. I look too cute in my head right now, LOL!

Did you guys notice how Mrs. O is carrying Sasha's bag and Sasha has Mrs. O's? TOO CUTE!!

totally didn't notice that the First Lady and Sasha had switched bags, how cute. i thought that bag looked a bit mature for her lol! Malia's coat is from ASOS, on sale right now for around $90. Sasha's coat looks like it's from J. Crew, but i didn't do much research on that one. has the First Lady worn her coat before? it looks familiar, but it doesn't.

@nyon - you are very observant, I was also wondering about the bags.

Sasha's bag is probably so heavy Mrs. O decided to carry it for her--our First Lady is STRONG both in her head and body. What an example those parents are for the country.

Hi Nyon! Yes, I'm in!

Hi, I've followed this blog for awhile and love it. This is my first post. I have old Talbots catalogs I was just getting ready to throw out and I can confirm that Mrs. O's coat looks exactly like the Plaid Double-Faced Wool Wrap Coat Talbots listed in a November catalog. Mrs. O likes bold styles and because she's tall and striking, she can pull them off where some others of us can't. Still, even on her, the big plaid is a bit overwhelming. She always manages to pull things off though--& the pants and gloves really help the look. jrb

Welcome back, Posh! Nyon is right, we need to get ready for the good, the bad, and the ugly over the next ten months.

@dasie, Observant or obsessed? LOL!! Just playing, but I noticed it right away, don't know why.

Hey Groovy, I'm working on getting ready for the bad and the ugly. I'm going to be a good girl, I think?! LOL!

Nyon is going to be a good girl? This I've GOT to see!!! Hey, my sisters! This is going to be an interesting year, fashion-wise and "other stuff" too.
It's good to see The First Family returning from vacation safe, happy, well rested and looking stylish at that. I did not notice that Sasha was carrying mommy's bag and mommy was carrying hers....too cute!
@ FSD, I think you're right about Michelle's coat at Talbots. I just love how they accessorized, be it scarves, gloves and/or kicky boots.
Looking good First Family!

Just throwing this out there for those who aren't fans of Mrs. O's coat (and I'm on the fence about it myself): On Tues, in DC, it was FREEZING COLD. It was actually painfully, bone-chillingly cold! I'm pretty sure that Tues is the first day it's been this cold since the beginning of winter (and yesterday it was awful too). So, I'm wondering if maybe Mrs. O was just looking for a larger coat to accomodate some layers underneath, as well as a coat that was more about keeping warm than looking super chic. The President's hands must have felt like ice cubes!

yes....as mentioned before there has been an ARCTIC blast here on the east coast. All coats in this photo are necessary....I love them all.

Hi Mrs T,

I thought you might be interested in this great fashion news. From OFA - President Obama campaign:

"We’re launching something new, and a little different, over the next few weeks: Runway to Win, a collaboration by some of the country's top fashion designers in support of Obama 2012.

In the coming weeks, we'll be rolling out Obama-inspired designs by everyone from Tracy Reese to Jason Wu to Tory Burch at runwaytowin.com. The details are still under wraps, but sign up for your First Access pass to get updates"

Here is the link: http://www.barackobama.com/news/entry/runway-to-win-first-access

This is very exciting!

Oh, my dear little sister Nyon..... I do have faith in you! Faith surely will be tested in the upcoming months......never fear, I GOT YOUR BACK!
@ Canuck Joyce......this sounds exciting!
On a fashion note: I am so loving these gloves. That's my latest obsession, long leather gloves in colors other than just black or brown. Thanks FLOTUS!
