Medal of Honor

Photo by Jonathan Ernst / Reuters Pictures

The President and First Lady awarded the Medal of Honor today to Marine Corps Corporal Dakota Meyer (shown at the left) for heroic efforts in Afghanistan during September 2009. For the White House event, Mrs. O wore a blue polka dot Lanvin dress, from Resort 2009, paired with red heels.

@Mrs. T, is this the same Lanvin: http://mrs-o.com/newdata/2010/5/28/pretty-in-polka-dot.html & http://mrs-o.com/newdata/2009/5/13/purple-and-polka-dots-by-lanvin.html ? And still no word about the source of the black dress from Sunday?

are those polka dots? works at this scale size. the red shoes make the outfit pop. and the detail (brooch, flowers?) at her left shoulder helps to offset the pattern of the dress, which could be overwhelming. also balances out the asymmetrical-hanging lapel. i'm constantly taking mental style notes from this family.

I like this dress very much...and the red shoes are perfect with blue and white.
You know, red, white & blue. Special mention for the Marine. Mrs. O's dress doesn't matter; it is
about honoring Corporal Meyer and the men he had to leave behind.

Hooray for the red, white & blue!
I would also like to have a closer look at the pin.

A wonderful , what looks like a Lavin repeat! A cheerful dress with a punch of red. Continued prayers for those who serve us/and country here and abroad....

It's cool that the top is on the bias and the skirt is straight-grain.

She looks stunning. Those polka dots are so refreshing today! I love red shoes with them, too. (I wonder why somebody doesn't sew in one of those little bra strap stays that help with that type of sleeve cut. Maybe they will before the next wearing. Just in case, I'd put a navy bra under there. Oops, my bra strap is showing! Oh no, there goes a runner up my hose! Egad, not toilet paper on my shoe! Wow, I'm sure glad I'm not on camera all the time....)

I would also really like to know about the black dress from Sunday, looks like it could be Alaia but hard to tell

This is one repeat that I could see over and over again. Polka dots are one one of my favorite prints and this Lanvin dress does it for me. I believe the brooch that our Michelle is wearring is the one that came with the dress. Take a look on www.style.com and see look #11 of the Resort Collection for 2009. The dress was shown on the runway as a maxi dress. Either way, it looks fresh.
Oh, lest I forget, that handsome husband of FLOTUS still has that whip appeal, grey hair and all!
HEY NYON;-)

An amazing young Marine, so different from the tired, worn-out negativity we see so much of these days.

Time is really zooming on by. I remember Mrs. O reading to kids in this dress a few years back. Updated with a new hairstyle and red pumps, it is still one striking number.

Mrs. O sends a simple message of patriotism, classicism, and just a kick of contemporary with that brooch. Red shoes and navy and white is so perfect and timeless.

I love the way she will have dresses redone--sleeves removed, shortened etc. She represents us so well.

The First Lady's attire always requires the kind of elegance that her position implies. The polka dots style never loses its allure. The red shoes perfectly complement the dress of white and blue. Only a few items of polka dots design can have the same elegant feel as the Lanvin dress. Such designs could only be found at some selected boutique dress shops.
