Mrs. O Charms Cape Town

Photo by Charles Dharapak / AP Images
Mrs. O was in Cape Town, South Africa today, where she answered student questions at the University of Cape Town, followed by a visit to the District 6 Museum.
The First Lady's outfit du jour includes a Reed Krakoff coated boucle blazer, last seen here, paired with navy trousers and a printed top Duro Olowu top (see reader Kemi's analysis here). Nava Zahavi earrings accessorized the look.
Update: One more photo from later in the day, as Mrs. O participated in activities to raise awareness for HIV prevention at Cape Town Stadium. It's tempting to re-title this post 'Having a Ball'!

i am loving mrs. o on this trip! loving her! her hair looks lovely; her face radiates beauty, confidence, and a knowledge that others do not possess. again, the outfit is secondary compared to the woman herself!
Her top is yet another Duro Olowu Spring 2010 piece! More details here: http://shopliquorice.blogspot.com/2011/06/who-wore-what-michelle-obama-in-duro_23.html
I want those earrings!
You can see some of her strengths as a mentor in this photo, I reckon!
Me too, SoccerNana !
I would like here hair, earrings and the blouse! The "styling" or "feel" of the clothes of this trip, I like a lot.
Really fantastic picture of her doing pushups with Bishop Tutu

Mrs. Michelle Obama, First Lady of the United States of America, is truly brains, beauty and class. It is humbling to see her maintain the common link/thread with her words of inspiration and wisdom that she has shared with the people of Southern Africa. A remarkable woman of the African Ark has returned to the Motherland to reach out and touch and inspire millions of inter-generational Southern Africans. God bless her and her family always.
Mother Africa - The Cradle of Civilization…
I have always believed, African fabrics jewelry, etc - look good on any woman regardless of her ethnic background. In the site referenced by Kemi, we see beautiful Mrs. Obama looking radiant in her Duro Olowu Shirt; to the left of her is a beautiful young Caucasian model looking lovely in a piece from Olowu’s Spring 2010 collection.
As an African American woman, I too, am so proud and happy to see Mrs. O and her family making this trip. I look forward to the day I step off the plane and experience the sights, sounds, and smells, of the homeland of many of my ancestors.
@SoccerNana, Jestina, Adear and Amy - I want her guns! That’s why my friend and I are in the YMCA five mornings a week - sweating, working and moving!
Peace.
@Terri Austin-Randolph Mrs sTAR - Yeah for all your dedication for sweating, working and moving!
I fell off my working out due to an injury to my toe. When I am healed I will jump back in....You and your friends keep it up:)
I am loving the blues.....she's wearing some shade of blue each day and it looks good on her! The earrings adds another punch of blue. This trip has yet to disappoint on the fashion front. Love it!
I saw some footage of the speech that our Michelle gave and it is inspiring, to say the least.
The First Lady looks great! The combination of textures, patterns and colors is so fashion-forward and perfect!
That jacket is calling to me. It is saying "I want to be in your closet."
I LOVE the second picture. She is truly inspiring.
I am loving those blue flats - we keep seeing them over and over. I love seeing Mrs. O repeat pieces, it makes her seem so down-to-earth and accessible.
The second picture is great. I love the colors - and her hair! The thing I especially love about our First Lady is that she always seems to be truly engaged and enjoying herself.
Hey Mrs. T - Thanks for the second photo! Wow, you are right she is having a ball...can't fake having fun like that. Who new one could move like that wearing kitten heels! FABULOUS!

Small clip of this was shown on Nightly News last night.
Happy Friday everyone!
That really is a lovely top and it looks great with these pants. I am looking out my window at Puget
Sound and amazed that I am looking at pictures of Africa. It is a small world, after all.
Nice clip from ABC News…

Can any of you fabulous fashionistas/fashionistos tell us more about the incredible blue shoes Mrs. O has been wearing…I love them, love them, love all of them! I too agree with o’Coutoure and willett784...FLOTUS has completely changed the way I look at shoes as an accessory.
Peace.
Mrs. O looks just gorgeous!! I love the earrings and the hair. She is rocking some serious hair this summer. I am already styling my hair in the imitation bob pin up and everyone at my office is loving it. I see now I have another style to experiment with for the summer. Need a close up though :(
Amy, thanks for the link to the photo with Desmond Tutu--it's a classic on so many levels. She is exhibiting both perfect form for the pushup (look at how striaght her back is--like a tabletop!) and infectious enthusiasm. I doubt if Archbishop Tutu, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, gets down on the floor for just anybody, but he seems to be doing his best. I envy the young man in between them; what an honor to be in between those two!
I love the way Mrs. Obama reminds me of color combos I used to love and use a lot, but for whatever reason don't use so much anymore. NOTE TO SELF: Buy a pair of slim navy blue slacks to pair with different patterns and colors. Just lovely!
Hmmm ... coated boucle? I've never heard of that. When I saw the jacket the frist time, I thought it was leather. I love the top ... beautiful colour combinations. Love it!
"Simply the best!" Love, love the top!
The navy pants and green/yellow top fit her beautifully and she looks great in them. But why add a black jacket and bright blue shoes? Too many different colors that don't compliment each other.
Those earrings look terrific with the outfit. Have we seen them before?
where do you get those shoes Mama Malia?
