On Point

On Friday evening Mrs Obama was at West Point to address cadets at their graduation banquet, becoming the first First Lady ever to do so. Staying true to her mission of supporting military families, she stressed the importance of supporting army personnel who are far from home and family, and to draw strength from their own families. Her full speech will be available to view from the West Point website at 9am on Saturday.
With her customary grace and style, the First Lady provided a splash of vibrant colour amid a sea of white uniforms. She wore the scarlet silk, V-neck Jason Wu dress that we first saw on the cover of Glamour back in October 2009 (here). On arrival this was paired with the ivory L’Wren Scott cardigan, beaded with scarlet flowers and leaves, that we have seen many times before. I'm not sure it's ever looked better. Classic pearls completed the look.
Photos currently available for this event are not helpful in terms of showing off the outfit (hence my delay in posting). However, as you can see a full length shot of Mrs Obama here (3rd photo in slideshow) and as we have some quite good photos in the archives, I have simply chosen the best pictures of Mrs O herself at this event.
Happy weekend!

Oh Posh, how I love fresh news first thing in the morning. It will be remiss of me not to say to you "GREAT JOB!!"
Mrs.O looks radiant as usual!
Happy weekend to ALL.
Lynn Sweet has posted an overview of next week"s activities.

Not surprising that she is not going on to France. The G-8 is very spouse unfriendly. Crammed full of business and no real social activities.
Just spot on perfect. She looks stunning and no one has ever brought such real focus to military families. Everyone is grateful to the military, but she and Dr. Biden have shown people hands-on, real ways to reach out and actually help them, talk to them, encourage them. I know they have made me much more aware of the military families in my own life. They are truly making a difference in our social consciousness as well as helping to enact real programs that improve the lives of our military heroes.
Wonderful dress and pearls, love the vibrant colors. I have seen enough cardigans to last me a while, though.
Wow, I read on one of the links that the only other First Ladies that ever even visited West Point were the wives of Ulysses S. Grant and Dwight Eisenhower. And that was because their sons were graduating. Wow, just wow. She looks radiant.
First Lady Michelle Obama is blazing so many new trails. And looking absolutely fabulous doing it. Joining Forces, indeed!!
Gorgeous. I am looking forward to her upcoming activities in Europe.
Closest thing to full-length shot:

Posh there is a full length pic on the West Point site.
I LOVED the full length shot! Everyone, check it out xD
I LOVE how the cardigan looks with that dress (I hated the striped dress, sorry). Too bad that full length shot isn't available bigger. She looks beautiful!!!!!! That dress outlines her figure nicely. It looked great on the magazine cover.
A+ for Mrs. O!!!
This was absolutely fantastic! Great Job, great First Lady!
Long time lurker and you are doing an absolutely fantastic job Posh!
Great job keeping us entertained, Posh!
As the field of Republican candidates take shape, I find myself pondering what other potential first ladies could bring to the table. Needless to say, I am not impressed with the pickings. In terms of style and womanly warmth, Mrs. O has no equal.
She looks radiantly lovely!
Thanks for the links Posh Tater and Sharon Nelson.
Keep up the good work Posh Tater!
ari2 - indeed there is. As per my link in the post where I say that there is "a full length shot of Mrs Obama here".
McKinley there is no competition in terms of style. The opposition all look bland, plastic and boring. Certainly nothing to inspire the fashion industry with confidence that they would have an ambassador to keep sales high and flourishing.
Someone wanted to know if the photo on the West Point website could be bigger. I found this on their Flickr page http://tinyurl.com/3oxas2j Hope this helps.
Has anyone read the June issue of Veranda? There is a lovely article on Mary. It is a must read!

Really?
Check out Mary Kaye Huntsman, dear. She has seven children, including daughters adopted from China and India. She is stunningly beautiful. She is, I think our next First Lady.
Well, I have to disagree, sorry. Just because a cardigan costs a lot of money doesn't make it appropriate for wearing to such a formal event. And as for the pearls, I'm sorry, but they look like they are made of plastic. And she wore them with diamond drop earrings. Pearl earrings were the appropriate choice.
The commander in chic has landed in Dublin. She's wearing an elegant black and white embroidered dress, black jacket and a FANTASTIC pair of shoes. The dress reminds me of a Balenciaga dress that she wore recently. Her make up is beautiful, nice smokey eye makeup.
One word - Awesome!!! I cannot wait for England.
Posh Tater, to you I say thank you for the professional way you handled the blog in
the absence of Mrs. T.
Here's a couple of photos from Dublin.

Fantastic shoes no SPECTACULAR. Who made those shoes!!!
Thanks @Anagrom !!!
@luv_it i think a cardigan and pearls are just right for a west point graduation ceremony. something warm and inviting surrounded by all of those starched uniforms.
