Making a Statement

The president and first lady are hosting a conference on bullying prevention at the White House today. Above, Mrs. O is pictures with Emily and Sarah Buder, authors of "Letters to a Bullied Girl: Messages of Healing and Hope." For the event, Mrs. O combined tones of red with a layered top and cardigan, belted at the waist and paired with black trousers.

This outfit resembles the one she wore in late 2011 while distributing/delivering Toys for Tots. Don't you think? The colors are similar and the belt looks familiar. What do you think?
I have to say it, I am not fond of her new stylist. I am not loving any of her clothes since the new stylist came onboard.
@Emme, I agree with you...the belt does look like one she has worn often. Wishin' we could see more of outfit but oh well, orange and reds look good on her.
I am a young woman in my late 20s and i am still affected by the death of a friend who committed suicide several years ago because of bullying she felt her whole life.
I am happy that the Obama administration has chosen to shine a light on this issue.
If you have a young person in your life- all the way from preschool to college age- take the time to watch the videos from today's events.
The truth is that bullying is not okay. It does not make people stronger if not handled in the right way. It affects the lives of all- the bullied, the bullies, and the bystanders. But above all, no matter the category you fall under, you have the ability to make a difference!
Thanks again to Mrs. O and Mr.O for sending across this strong message- that bullying is not ok!

This is such a worthy effort on the part of The White House. I so appreciate this endeavor. I wish something like this had been around when my younger sister was in Jr. High School in the 70s. That poor girl, all she wanted to do was go to school, come home and do homework so she could live in her books. There were some girls that used to pick on her as if it were their daily mission in life. I was pregnant at the time yet I walked her to school each day and went back to pick her up after school. Once when the teacher said "kids will be kids" I went and sat in the classroom with her to let the cows know that I meant business. Fast forward to today, my sister teaches 1st and 2nd gradeers and is passionate about zero tolerance when it comes to bullying. I salute her!
C-i-D thats fantastic. Thats what we need: zero tolerance. I was bullied ferociously at school and it made life a living hell. Now I know that most children bully because they hear from their parents what is acceptable, what is normal. They think they can go around telling people who don't fit the mould that they are bad, wrong, less than, and worthy of hate.
Oh! And I like Mrs O's outfit very much!
@ Invictus - thanks for sharing that story with us and so sorry to hear of your loss. Bullying is very real and very serious. It can damage someone for LIFE - going on to affect people's careers, relationships and the next generation. I applaud the Obama's for championing this cause.

Eileen Fisher is active in social issues such as economic and social justice for girls and women around the world and the environment. And the clothes are beautiful.
No, I don't work for Eileen Fisher. I'm the principal of a public elementary school in the South Bronx who loves that Eileen Fisher makes clothes that are lovely and wearable for all women.
Love the way she is connecting with Sarah and Emily Buder - you can see the genuine smiles in the photo. Clothes are simply the outer wrapping for Mrs. Obama's warm and sincere personality.
