Saturday Scoop

Hope everyone is having a wonderful fall weekend! I wanted to share a few tidbits that caught my eye this week:
(1) Words of wisdom on building a career in the fashion industry from Everyday Icon author Kate Betts:
"Kate Betts on Building a Career in Fashion" [Forbes]
(2) A new style book inspired by the First Lady, authored by Mikki Taylor, former beauty and cover director at Essence:
Commander in Chic by Mikki Taylor [Amazon]
(3) A cause near and dear: Good Shirts for the Horn of Africa.
Threadless, BBH (my former employer), UNICEF and the creators of Wants for Sale have teamed up to create Good Shirts, a line of t-shirts designed to support famine relief in east Africa. One hundred percent of the purchase price of each shirt goes to UNICEF.
From Threadless & UNICEF:
The Horn of Africa (Somalia, Ethiopia, Kenya, and Djibouti) is experiencing a humanitarian crisis, with Somalia at the epicenter of the crisis. More than 13 million people are in need of humanitarian assistance, including 4 million children. Famine has been declared in parts of southern Somalia, and is likely to spread. Tens of thousands have died, and hundreds of thousands of children are at risk of death.
Among the Obama administration, Dr. Biden has been particularly active in promoting relief efforts in east Africa. This past summer, Dr. B traveled to Kenya on a mission to help deal with the famine, and just last week, she appeared on The Early Show to speak out about relief efforts. The Obama administration has also pledged more than $100 million in aide to the region.
Good Shirts is a nice way to show your support. To learn more:

Thanks for the updates, Mrs. T.
@ Jestina, I expect you've noticed the witty title of Mikki Taylor's new book. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery!
Thanks Mrs. T. for the info. These are great ideas for holiday gifts!
I like FLOTUS' hair color(dark brown or black), but I would love to see her with some brown highlights.
Not related, but I just came across a really cute video excerpt of Michelle's upcoming appearance on iCarly:

@Sharon, that video made my morning!
