A Hidden Alaia

Official White House Photo by Lawrence Jackson
A lovely photo taken during the U.N. Summit last week has surfaced, featuring President Obama and First Lady Mrs. O posing with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uruguay, Luis Almagro, during an event held at the Natural History Museum in New York City.
It's of particular note sartorially, as Mrs. O wears an Alaia dress, similar in style (though shorter, v-neck and red, here) to the gown worn for the Nobel Peace Prize gala in Oslo last year. A stack of bangles and a statement brooch at the center of the neckline complete the look. Thanks to reader Faith for sharing this gem!
P.S. Does anyone recognize the other woman pictured? Would appreciate a bit of help if we have any readers from Uruguay!

LOVE MRS OBAMA DRESS IT VERY CLASSIC JUST LIKE HER
So lovely and so far away from the plain (althought sometimes appropriate) black dress. Everytime she dressses, Mrs. O makes a unique fashion statement.
Wow! Love it!
Beautiful
The dropped waistline is a very different look on her. The brooch helps draw the eye up and adds interest to the bodice.
She looks great, at always! Link to previous Alaia seems to be broken. Thanks.
Love everything about this dress; color, fit, ruffles and length. Right on, Mrs. O!

Beautiful cut, color and style on a beautiful lady. I am not sure if this is the occasion for it. I just wish she would start wearing sleeves/jackets/blazers to events like this and save the sleeveless for more casual or more social events, dinners, dates, etc.... Its almost like she is going to a different event than the others in the picture. I swear my president can cheese. LOL!
Just Lovely! Did you notice the elegant posture? And the perfect feet placement? I do believe our Mrs. O is blossoming on us!
Everytime I look at her beautifully applied make up.....I say to myself - OK, time to try to achieve this look.
I've been working on getting that smooth flawless look all week and today tried some bronzer and lightweight foundation. I saw a huge difference, so thanks Mrs. O for your inspiration.
I love this dress and the brooch.
Here is a video I found of Mrs. O. She has partnered with some Disney kids to spread the message of healthy living for kids.

I, too, like the dress and the brooch. I just wish Mrs. O. would have put the large, undoubtedly heavy, brooch at the shoulder, as it is dragging the neckline down and exposing a bit too much cleavage for the time of day and the occasion.
I like the dress. The dropped waistline is flattering to her figure. However, I think as well that sleeveless and cleavage are not appropriate for the occasion.
I love Mrs O's dress, that color becomes her!
Very nice photo of very good looking and appropriately dressed dignitaries, especially our First Lady!
@ Mrs. T,
Isn't the bottom of this dress similar to are the same as the bottom of the black dress Mrs. O wore in their family portrait that was taken last year?
This was not a daytime event. This soiree began at 7:15 p.m. Cocktail attire was appropiate.
Magnificent ! Does anyone catch pictures of a possible jacket ? (regarding the ice-blue jacket she wore in Oslo, the total outfit with a red jacket must be wonderful)
ABSOLUTELY STUNNING!
Mrs. Obama's unique style, continually grace's us with perfection in this beautiful ensemble!
The lovely, exquisite brooch sets this outfit off! Commanding center stage! BRAVO!!!
NICE COLOR
Very nice neckline.
Not sure about the drop waist - I think it widens her shape.
Love the way she stands
ABSOLUTELY MAGNIFICENT!
Mrs. Obama looks so beautiful in this ensemble!
The color, along with style and eye-catching brooch command center stage! BRAVO!!!
This dress is perfect for a cocktail occasion in NYC. What a fun setting for the event! Mrs. O always rocks red.
She has the best legs !!! And I agree with Nora, the pose is very classy !!! Every 1st Lady should be so polished and poised.
@ Nyon - thanks for the video with the Disney Kids.
This dress is entirely appropriate for the cocktail hour. Lovely shade of red.
It is a lovely dress and she looks lovely in it but I think it was inappropriate for the time of day. Too much cleavage.
Hmmmmm, I'm not quite sure what it is, but this is not one of my favorites. I love our Michelle in Alaia, especially the dress she wore in Oslo, but this one has me scratching my head. I can't quite put my finger on it, not sure if it's the color or what, but it doesn't quite do it for me. I like how she accessorized it with those sparkling, banging bangles and pewter pumps. Oh well, no harm no foul. When CNN reported the event, they said she was mesmerizing, and without a doubt I bet she was was. As usual, my President always looks handsome and crisp (IMO) and yep, I'm gushing!
Today, October 3, is the 18th wedding anniversary of POTUS and FLOTUS!! They are an amazing, beautiful, high-energy couple that I admire and look up to every day. May enduring love and devotion surround them and their family always.
Really, WOW! When she nails it, she nails it. This is so stunning in every way and I LOVE the broach.
The dropped waistline is a very different look on her. The brooch helps draw the eye up and adds interest to the bodice.
Loving the brooch!
I think she wore this dress in black on a night out during the couple's tour in France last year.
Too much cleavage for a first lady any time of day.
Great color on her but the dress widens her at the most unflattering part. Also, it is too much cleavage for any time of day for the First Lady of the United States.
The other lady is Foreign Minister Almagro's wife - a South-African called Marianne Birkholtz. She met him when working as an SA diplomat.
The cleavage is immodest and unprofessional. Who is she trying to tempt? Be a woman of decency and respect not of Hollywood morals!
Wow! Seriously? It's 2010
Mrs. O, FLOTUS MICHELLE OBAMA, LADY O, First Lady Michelle---whatever you prefer--- Mr. Obama' wife, POTUS BARACK OBAMA's First Lady, PRESIDENT OBAMA's Wife---however you refer to her---TFDUS' Mother---Malia & Sasha's Mom---is Classy, Elegant, a millennial Fashionista, an impeccably well-coordinated Stylist, a contemporary Jackie O.; and is a relatable, wise Global Leader who captivates designers and style-lovers because of her superb fashion eye! RT user: If you don't like the First Lady, why bother leaving such nasty comments here? It doesn't make sense. Please take your bitterness and jealousy to another place.
The other woman is Almagro´s wife Marianne Birkholtz
