They're Home!

P080810PS-1246

Official White House Photo by Pete Souza

In a blink of the eye, Mrs. O and Sasha are back home at the White House, greeting the president last evening for a South Lawn barbecue in celebration of his 49th birthday. Mother and daughter were once again well coordinated in light, breezy white cotton ensembles. Loving the new additions to Mrs. O's summer wardrobe!

Update: Mrs. O wears the Monique Péan bracelets we first saw in Mexico, here.

I love the all white, summer at its best. I like the sleeves and flowering detail on the front of Mrs. O's dress--not your average white summer dress. It's my favorite casual summer look in general particularly on men. Mrs. O has gotten me into wearing bangles almost everyday and I get a lot of compliments. Sasha looks so adorable with her father--I bet she had a lot to talk about. This weekend they're going to the Gulf, so maybe we'll get to see some more summer fashion--they haven't announced the exact location yet. My guess would be Florida...maybe Destin or Pensacola.

P.S. I posted the inside story by Lynn Sweet of Mrs. O's Spain trip in the chat room.

Loving the father-daughter hug!

We are here >>><< Janelle. I have started adding bracelets to my fashion jewellry collection and noticed how much they can change an outfit. I love Mrs Obama's dress, looks very cool.

As for Sasha, she deserves a big daddy hug. She has done remarkably well on this trip and seemed to capture all of our hearts.

This is a lovely photo. And I adore Mrs. O's dress -- the white with the pastel colors inset, the cut of the neck, style of sleeve and flow of the dress really suit her well. Just beautiful!

This is such a precious photo. Mrs. O and Sasha look so very beautiful. I wonder if they're wearing purchases from Spain? So happy to see them reunited. President Obama looks like he's holding on tight!

Maybe Michelle's clothes and Sasha are those who buy in a shop in Marbella, store owner explained that they were white Egyptian cotton and ethyl from Ibiza.
The image of his father Sasha is very nice.

What lovely family moment! Daddy missed his little girl! Mrs. O is rocking the bracelets with that breezy summer dress

I like Pres Obama, he is really a family man.

Mrs. Obama looked very nice. She should have chosen that dress to meet the King and Queen of Spain instead of that skirt that was not flattering at all. Those girls are adorable and Sasha looked so cute.

What a dear father-daughter moment! You can tell that they missed one another. At first, I really did not notice our Michelle, all I could see was that precious little one hugging her daddy within an inch of hers and his life. Cute enough! I'm loving FLOTUS' Monique Paen bracelets!

Gosh, I just love this photo. They all look so summery!

That's a real "Daddy I Love You/Miss You" Hug. It amazes me that Mr. President has some of the greatest responsibility in the world yet in this moment none of that really matters because he never forgets to remain committed to the love of his wife and the love of his children.

Thank you, Mrs. T, for all the posts from Spain. I very much enjoyed them. I do like the white cotton reunion. Very fresh and summery:)

Oh how sweet! She really missed her dad. I'm so glad they made it back home. She will always remember this trip with her mom. We love the Obamas so very much. Michelle and Sasha looked very nice and the white/off white is very summery. I have two daugthers also, and sometimes it is nice to have one of them with you to shop, talk, and eat lunch. Michelle should have a mother and daughter luncheon, I would do my very best to attend, from South Carolina.

So cute!

These sweet summer looks sure look like they might be the Egyptian cotton dresses Mrs O was reported to have bought in the little store in Marbella on their first day.

PS: Here's a very fun video (Spanish tv) on their visit to Granada (with ice cream!). My favorite part is the last half where the flamenco dancers who performed for Mrs O describe the visit with a small peak of the restaurant. Fantastically expressive people!. Even without knowing Spanish, I got a pretty good sense of what they're saying, but -- Any translators among our bunch here?

To desertwind:
Sorry for my English will try to tell what they say in the video, first realize that what most interested him was the tomb of the kings catolicos.En Michelle took the ice cream shop ice cream chocolates and Sasha three melon and raspberry, employees were pictures with her and point out that it was very nice. The flamenco dancer told that Michelle knows how to play the Palms has plenty of pace and I dance with him twice, when they went Sasha Michelle explained to them moving their hands, the dancers say that Michelle has kissed and invite them to be United States, Michelle was thrilled with the show so much that she almost burst into tears.
I hope you can understand, greetings

Very, very pretty, understated and summery...it's hot in D.C.! Per another poster, I love the fact that Sasha dresses in such cute and age-appropriate clothing. Too many little girls dress as if they're already teenagers. I fault the permissive parents. There are sooo many wonderful clothing choices for younger girls, esp. Crewcuts, Hanna Andersson, and Garnet Hill.

Desert Wind, I can understand some Spanish. Mrs. O went to the cathedral where the tombs of the Catholic Kings are. Think Ferdinand and Isbella. This visit thought to be appropriate b/c they were the Spanish roaylity who funded and supported explorers in the Americas. The entourage went to an Italian place and enjoyed gelato(Italian frozen confection sort of like ice cream-chocolate. (Chocolate for Michelle and strawberry for Sasha.) They were able to view traditional flamenco dance. The peopele on the street were complimentary of Mrs. O and many hoped to get pics. Security very tight so not possible for all. If there are any Hispanics on this forum please feel free to correct any errors or anything I left out. The mood was one of excitement

Throwing all fashion comments aside this is a very heart warming photo you cannot help but say “Awww” when you look at it. Honestly I think Sasha is a true daddy’s girl at heart.

Mucas gracias to Pi & Susan!

OF COURSE our Michelle had triple-chocolate gelato... that's the flavor she always gets. Me, too!

I enjoyed watching all the Spanish TV videos & guessing what was being said.

Andalusia looks so beautiful & fascinating. The people seem so kind & good natured.

they are just the sweetest family. Love the look on Mrs. O's face. You all should read Craig Robinson's book, A Game of Character....you get such wonderful insight into just how close this family is and what kind of integrity they have.

A picture of Love. Sasha is so full of life:she seems thrilled to be in the world. Mrs. O is dressed perfectly for a celebratory summer evening on the lawn. The photog has captured an amazing image for the ages.

Love. At what cost? $75,000 a day? Whatever. No amount of money can by love in the form witnessed in this photo.

I know that this is a post about fashion and believe me I am a big supporter of Mr and Mrs O but I fear that this trip to Spain was ill timed and ill advised at this time in our country.I know that the clothing worn by our first lady is paid for personally however I would like to see her reuse and recycle more. I just feel that it is appearing to be extravagent and is overriding all that she has accomplished. I just wish she would reuse the clothing that is truly flattering to her and take less risks therfore giving her a more consistent look.

for all the talk about MO wearing flats, the Queen of Spain is wearing espadrilles. That is pretty informal

'Trip, Spain, ill-advised, ill-timed, clothing worn, paid personally, want her to re-use and recycle more, appearing to be 'extravagent'...'

....??!!!

Love, Love, Love,

Mrs. O always recycle her clothes. My husband and I are facing financial troubles right now, but I certainly do not expect my President and First Lady to act like they are in the same boat. That actually would be quite annoying to me if they pretended in this manner.

Go Michelle!!! Best Fist Lady I have ever observed in the White House!

Thank you Felicia, Jessica and Audrey! Not only has this truth been reported about Mrs. Obama recycling her clothes...we are eyewitnesses to it! That's the problem with too many people...they strain at a knat...then turn around and swallow a camel!

Mrs O looks completely beautiful in this wonderful top or dress. It's such a romantic cut and so well suited for her figure. Fantastic. Also love the bobble trim on Sasha's tunic. Sweet!

From Jessica's jezebel site there was a link to many of the outfits that FLOTUS has repeated....

http://www.politico.com/click/stories/1006/flotus_wears_it_again.html

I knew she was a recycler, but it is amazing how DIFFERENT some of the looks appear just b/c she wore her hair differently, added a cardigan or blazer, or added some other statement jewelry piece. Wow.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 2:38 PM | Unregistered CommenterKMH

Looking at Mrs Obama's repeat performances you can see that she does not spend an exorbitant amount for her clothes. YES she spends alot but she includes high and low brands and mixes and matches to get the most bang for her buck. She accessorizes to give an old dress or blouse a new spin and instead of spending thousands on one suit she buys individual blouses and skirts that can be put together with a cardigan and a broach making old looks seem fresh and brand new. That is the genius of her wardrobe.

I had missed these articles as they were released just before my wedding. Interesting that Irin Carmon at Jezebel is mocking the Politico article, and my quote, in the process. Ugh, I am getting more turned off by the American media by the minute.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 4:15 PM | Registered CommenterGroovy

That shows how bad I am....I didn't even read the jezebel article to know that Mrs. T was quoted (and then mocked). I've given up on a lot of the commentary that is available to us. I'm like a kid! I just want to see the pictures!!!!

I agree with Groovy, though.... Just keep on doing what you do, Mrs. T(B)....b/c you do it well.

This 'new' internet is the best and worst thing that has happened to "journalism". But when it's all over, many of the negative journalists will need to thank the Obamas for keeping them employed.

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 4:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterKMH

Oh, thank you for these sweet comments! I felt a moment of disgust toward the Jezebel writer, but it has since passed. :o)

Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at 5:34 PM | Registered CommenterMrs. T

For the "manufactured controversy" on Mrs. Obama re-wearing her clothes created by Politico and others and regurgitated by the likes of Miche is too ridiculous to consider as nothing more than utter nonesense. This is one time I'm so happy that our First Lady doesn't pay any attention to this type of dribble since she's too busy taking care of her family, moving her important initiatives forward, and being a first class role model for millions, not only in this country, but around the world. What may have been lost in all silly discussions about her trip to Spain is the fact of how the Spaniards felt about her and Sasha, and how they appreciated her taking the time out of her busy schedule to honor their country with a visit, brief though it might have been. Both in Marbella as well as in Granada, they stated how honored they were that of all the countries in the world, she chose Spain to visit. Now they want her to make a return visit, only this time, bring her husband. Their words, not mine. This is big, huge! What those silly people in the negative blogs and on cable fail to understand is that by making that short trip, Michelle Obama has advanced U.S.-Spanish relationship exponentially, and by doing so makes diplomacy and bilateral relationships between the U.S. and Spain that much easier for her husband and the Secretary of State (yes, Hillary!). These people need to get out of the United States sometimes and travel the world to learn how The Obamas have really, really changed the perception of Americans overseas (remember the "ugly American" title bestowed on Americans for year?).

So kudos to you, Mrs. O., continue to represent us so well both here at home as well as on your international travels. I can just imagine how proud your husband is of you. Thank you for the effortless way you accomplish your tasks, while looking so breathtaking beautiful and at-ease in your fashion choices.

agree wholeheartedly with mszonian and others! Thanks for articulating this so well. Also. what all the complainers about Mrs. O's overseas trip and the expense it costs the US taxpayers fail to state is that this woman works FULL TIME for our country with no salary whatsoever. I think these brief vacation trips she takes -- where she is still working, to a large degree -- are the least she deserves!
