Mrs. O Covers Ladies' Home Journal

Cover courtesy Ladies' Home Journal
First Lady Mrs. O is on the cover of the September 2010 issue of Ladies' Home Journal, wearing her own steely blue, cowl neck Calvin Klein Collection dress paired with swept back hair and gold hoop earrings.
In the interview, here, the first lady discusses the inspiration behind her Let's Move! initiative, her personal approach to healthy eating and exercise, as well as her anti-"beet gene". The article closes with insight into how Mrs. O handles the pressure of her position -- apropos given the last week of headlines.
Sally Lee, LHJ Editor in chief: I recently interviewed former First Lady Laura Bush and she talked about how when she left the White House, she felt physically lighter, that her burden had been lifted. Are the pressures involved in being First Lady something you're cognizant of?
Mrs. O: I think it's a self-protective mechanism not to think about it. If you were to ever stop and think about this stuff, you could be debilitated. Instead, if you approach each day new and fresh, with every experience as something to take in, the time flies. . . . It'll be two years [in the White House] before you know it. I can imagine that when it's time to step back and reflect, it will feel like a huge relief. But in this moment I'm just trying to get stuff done. I'm focused on trying to move this initiative forward.
Hope everyone has a delightful weekend!

She look fabulous! Mrs. T, while things are slow on the fashion front this month can we PLEASE have a post that reveals her skin care and makeup secrets?
Mrs, T,
Like I've said before, Mrs. O. has a very healthy attitude about this whole enterprise. I think that's a reflection of her (and her husband's) cleared-eyed view of themselves and what they want to accompllish while in the White House. I so admire her for her focus and her healthy sense of "self".
Now as for that dress, on the cover you can only see the top, but what I see, I like. She looks so relaxed, unruffled and un-stuffy...a good look.
canyongal, this is a great idea, but to be honest, I don't know that much about Mrs. O's skincare and make-up secrets (not as easy to identify as a designer dress!). What if I consulted a make-up artist on how to achieve certain Mrs. O looks -- would that be interesting? Or are you hoping to learn exactly which products the first lady is using?
Tanks Mrs T. Mrs. Obama looks great and I enjoyed reading the article. The only thing that upset me was reading the comments section. Seiously why is it anyone's business that she took a trip with a friend to Spain. The media attack on her trip seems to be working and that is unfortunate. She went there because a close friend asked her to go because she was going and she had been unable to attend the funeral of that friend's father. The Secret Service picked the Hotel because it was easier to protect the family there and she paid all her personal expenses. Not to mention nobody saw fit to comment on the amount of trips Laura Bush took with her friends and not to mention the amount of vacations her husband took on the public's dime. The article wasn't een about that but instead of focusing on something that is truly a problem and needs to be highlighted some people decided to add nonesense to the issue in the comments section. Ugh.
Hoping to learn EXACTLY which products the first lady is using.
I voted for President Obama, but it's Mrs. Obama who gives me hope. Hope for this country and hope for the world. We will all look back and remember her. Not only for her great personal style, but for the amazing woman she is. May God contiunue to bless and keep America!
I AREADY HAVE THIS MAGINZNE MRS OBAMA LOOKED NICE WISH HER HER WAS OUT AND NOT SLICK BACK HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND.
Amen, Strong Foru! Love this Calvin dress. These deep jewel tones really are a knock out with her skin tone.
I am pleased that this is an initiative that she is undertaking. (Too bad some mock her for her effort. ) Anyway, she looks great. I am not sure that I need to know her exact skin regimen but I'd like some experts to comment on what she might be doing. On a non-related note, Mrs. T. I was interested in Chelsea C. 's wedding dress and yours as well. What construction feature helped it (yours) to have the skirt sort of move out into that A line sillouete? Was yours comfortable? What helped Chelsea's poof out. I can see that hers had lots of layers but I am dying to understand the structure that allows such a poofy skirt and was hers comfortable? Thanks.
I want to know about what skin care products she uses to achieve that fantastic glow she always has, particularly when she is at gala events. She must use some sort of bronzing lotion or some kind of lotion that has a sparkle. Whatever she uses, it's never glittery or cheap looking. She's playful with make up so info on what products she uses would be cool, too.
Thanks Mrs. T!
By the way, I saw today that the Obamas will be taking a short 27 hour vacation in Panama City, Florida tomorrow morning through Sunday evening and photo ops should abound! Supposedly Malia's back from camp and is going with them and then they all go to Martha's Vineyard for 10 days.
Beautiful neckline on that dress/blouse and that shade of blue is lovely. I need her eyebrow person, too!
Mrs Obama is positively unique and an effortlessly spectacular First Lady...
She remains in my opinion, unaffectedly wonderful-
love, Mrs. Obama, and i hate beats too, don't know how anyone can eat that stuff, yuck!!!
Ugh, what is it about these magazines leaning so heavily on the photoshopping? She looks more human here than she did on that other cover (I've forgotten the name of the mag) where she looked positively mannequin-like. But she still seems a bit waxy.
Pretty color, though; I like the way it frames her face.
Canyongirl, I think a makeup post would be interesting -- but I think it'd be hard to get Mrs. O's makeup and skin care regimen specifically. Not unless her makeup artist is willing to spill! But it might be interesting to have someone talk in general about how to achieve a certain look.
Mrs. O, Mr. O, and Sasha went to Panama City. Here is a pic of them. I know we have seen this dress before on Mrs. O. However, once again Sasha has stolen the spotlight because she looks so cute in her dress and esperdrilles!!

I agree with MsZonian524. She and the president have a healthy attitude toward this office. They know it didn't make them nor losing it will break them. I like that! It keeps things into perspective regardless of the mudslingers. Syill they rise!
Wonderful photo, Nyon!

Hmmmm....guess Malia isn't back yet. Maybe she's meeting them in Maine.
FLOTUS looks beautiful in her blue dress, and her yellow flats are adorable. This is a very relaxed look.
I'm with mszonian. Mrs Obama truly has amazing skin. I remember seeing a picture of her at the Pompidou in Paris last year. She wasn't wearing any makeup and her skin looked flawless, not a blemish in sight. Her make up is always on point as well.
Onto the front cover - love it and love the cowl neck of the dress. I can only echo what others have said. She's an amazing woman and has really redefined the role of a First Lady.
OK who is more excited that Miss Sasha had a hole in one on the putt putt golf course

And then she showed some swagger http://tinyurl.com/23xxq9z
How much do I love this family? And on a style note, great summer fashion for vacation.

BRAVO...to LHJ cover! Mrs. Obama is gorgeous! Re the comment taken from the interview about the pressures of being in the position as First Lady in the White House...I believe some people think their positions are greet, meet, play tiddally-winks (spelling ?) and dress fancy! It's much more than that...I applaud them for what they are doing and giving their best!
New pictures!

S T U N N I N G ! ! !
I like this cover of LHJ much better than the one where FLOTUS was needlessly airbrushed within an inch of her life. This was really nice and that teal Calvin Klein just brightens up her face. I did not get this issue on the newstands yet but one of my best friends said it was a good article. I'm eager to read it.
I like the sense of freedom of Mrs. O .She is already in the
next chapter while we are finishing the current chapter.
Ma
Dear Mrs. T,
To add to Debra & canyongal's request, I'd love to find out what makeup she's wearing, particularly lip colors as my skin tone is an exact match. The lipstick FLOTUS wore the night of the State of the Union address (purple dress - Kors i believe) is of particular interest to me. Twitter was abuzz trying to figure out the color as it stumped some makeup artists.
Keep up the great work!
