Let's Pick Looks

Let's have a bit of fun. Which Fall 2010 looks would like to see in Mrs. O's wardrobe? I've included videos from a few of the first lady's favorites. Ikram Goldman liked the bits of sequin in Narciso Rodriguez's collection -- a first hint, perhaps?
Jason Wu: full collection, here
Thakoon: full collection, here
Narciso Rodriguez: full collection, here
Michael Kors: full collection, here
Moschino: full collection, here

As Kerry Washington said at the beginning of the first clip, "Wu wowed!" Beautiful collection for this fall from Jason. Wistful and, as he described it, romantic. I can see a couple metallic dresses (18, 19, 20, & 21) in there for Michelle and a few of the evening dresses (29 (love, love, love it!) 33, 35, 36, 38 (definitely see Michelle rocking that one) 39, & 40).
I'm so so happy for Jason. He deserves all the success in the world.
Go Jason!
Thanks Mrs. T. I loved Wu, Koors, and Moschino.
This was fun, Mrs. T!
Loved all of Jason Wu. I could see Mrs. O in his gorgeous gowns. Wowzers.
Thakoon was pretty thrilling but I don't see Mrs. O in most of what he's showing. Not her palette and the shaping doesn't seem right.
Hard to resist anything Narciso Rodriguez does, but most of it doesn't accentuate the waist, which Mrs. O seems to want to always do. But there were a couple of things that would work, for sure.
Michael Kors was lush and exciting but I'm not sure all the tailoring is Mrs. O's look.
I could see Mrs. O in the first strapless and ruffled skirt Moschino but the rest of the collection not so much.
BUT, the last thing to remember is, Mrs. O likes to surprise! Thank goodness!
I could see Mrs. O in a couple of the Jason Wu strapless dresses. Although Mrs O has worn Michael Kors quite a bit, too much fur in the fall collection..for my taste. Thakoon and Narciso Rodriquez did not appeal to me. I was glad I watched more than the first 4 minutes of Moschino. The second half was very enjoyable. I saw a lot of possibilities.
Thanks Mrs.T
Oh my gosh it's all so beautiful!!! I do prefer the way gold features in the Michael Kors collection much better than in the Moschino. It's so much more refined and understated in a way gold normally isn't. I also love the muted but rich and sexy greens, greys and unexpected pops of color (in sequins no less!!), in quite unexpected places, in Narcisso's collection. I love the sheer sleeves in that Moschino piece - a nice arm bearing option for winter LOL!!
Even though there is much fur featured, I do believe many of these pieces can also be done without and would look just as great. I loved Thakoon and Wu too. Thakoon's pieces were almost utilitarian but in a clean and feminine way and Jason Wu did quite a lovely range of slouchy preppy and modern fairytale.
It's all just so beautiful and I can see Mrs Obama in as many versions of all the pieces in all the various collections. Great job!!
1. Kors 2. Rodriguez 3. Wu. ...Prediction: Mrs. O. will be in Kors's camel coat with the elbow slits.
All were interesting collections, but I would love to see Mrs. O in the floor length knit skirt paired with the jumbo cowl neck sweater by Michael Kors. She could slap on one of her belts, add some chunky jewelry, and claim the look.
I watched the video again and discovered they were separates, making the look even more versatile for our First Lady.
Love Michelle Obamabut I am hoping that she tries some other designers this year as well. I have not really liked any of Jason Wu's outfits for her including the inaguration gown. While it was a pretty (not beautiful ) dress I didnt think it did anything for her.She could have looked so much better. Further I dont think she should wear "gathers". Not flattering. You looks best in straight, solids. Lots of prints dont do her justice.
She looked absolutely stunning in the Michael Kors dress when she spoke at the high school graduation in D.C. and she looked her absolute best at the first state dinner! Knockout!
All the collections were great but I love Jason Wu.
Thanks so much for the videos, Mrs T.
Let's see, personally, I liked (just "I liked", not "I think would be great on MO") .... Jason's sheer over-drapes (3, 39, funny, I thought there were more of those) and the gold dress with one maroon shoulder (#20 -- ooh like it even better when you can see the whole red side!). Thakoon -- draping 12 and dark colors 12, 21, 26. Narciso -- liked the bodice layers and peek-a-boo color bits, as in 5,6,14,21. Kors -- I didn't care for the really long floppy fur bits, totally impractical for actually wearing! same for those giant cowls and shirts open almost to the waist... I know, it's the runway, but really. Yes, he does the glittery stuff nice, 63, 64. (OK, Kors 37 really grabbed me.) Moschino -- the uni-mannequin hat and sunglasses, yuch! quite distracting. oh, half-way through they switched from a stetson to a Spanish flat brim. Didn't see anything in the clothes.
I MISS ELSA KLENSCH!!! It's hard (for me) to find a replacement for her, I'm interested in fashion, but not obsessed, and her show was such a boon, gathering things up regularly. There's just SO MUCH on the Internet and FTV on Dish (374) -- it's like trying to drink from a firehose, too much to deal with. Well, maybe I can backtrack through this post and figure out a couple of standard places to keep an eye on!
I took a few things away from these videos - a few of which apply to MO.
There were a lot of skirt/sweater/belt looks - often with bold necklaces and/or bangles. Great look for her as long as she keeps the belt either on her waist, or does a below the waist kind of chain look.
I thought some of Wu's evening looks that were wrapped in tulle could be worked up to look great on her for evenings - very soft and feminine. Kind of like a gift wrap for the body.
I loved the straight-on sequin dresses that looked almost like sheets of metal. I'm sure she'd get a lot of flak for trying it, but she would look beautiful in those dull gold sequins.
Moschino must have had every model east of the Mississippi in that show. I thought much of it was an homage to Chanel, with a zillion takes on her classic, trimmed suit. I did love the dresses with the built-in necklaces (one was black, another tweed) and thought MO could wear them beautifully.
Something that really jumped out at me was the shoes in the Moschino show. NO platforms - just a classic, black pump (and one leopard!) where the sole of your foot is actually able to feel the floor. I don't know if others agree, but platforms look really really dated to me - very last year.
This was great fun, Mrs. T. And when I have a minute I'm going to visit Style.com. There were a few designers from last season that I thought Mrs. O could wear - I'm going to see what they are up to this time around.
The fashion was spectacular and although I can't afford it, I couldn't help thinking which looks we might see Mrs. O this fall and winter.
