Spring Floral

AP Photo/Eduardo Verdugo
First Lady Mrs. O toured the National Museum of Anthropology in Mexico City today with Mexico's first lady Margarita Zavala. Mrs. O dressed in a floral wrap dress, paired with bright yellow ballet flats for the outing. Lovely!
Update: Mrs. O wears the Julian wrap dress in Vintage Pansy from the Spring 2009 Diane von Furstenberg collection.

her wrap-dress is DVF. i remember that dress.Nathalia Vodianova wears it at the finale of her show.it was a CNN special with DVF. the show name is "revealed". i'm sure of it.
she looks very springy. i love the yellow flats.
Perfect dress and shoes for a trip to the museum. I'm loving the floral look, very appropriate for a hot sunny country. FLOTUS certainly puts a lot of thought into her clothes. I actually think the bob hairstyle is really nice as it takes the bulk of her hair away from her face which can be uncomfortable in the heat. The President doesn't have to worry about how his wife is doing. He must be choked with pride at seeing his wife handle herself so well. She seems like a natural - doing her thing and making America proud.
Mexico's first lady seems to be enjoying her company as well. I hope they bond really well because it will make the state dinner next month a lot more enjoyable when they have gotten the formalities over with on this trip.
Yes, I remember it on Natalia Vodianova too from that CNN special. There is footage of it in this Youtube video at about the 6:54 mark onward.

It was a vintage DVF wrap from the 70's that Diane had pulled from her archives especially for Natalia at the finale of the Resort 2009 show in Florence.
You can also see it in more detail at the 0:50 mark onward in the Youtube video here:

Perhaps it was modified a bit by adding flowers at the collar in the same fabric as the dress?
Love the dress!!! But you all know me......the look would have been a home-run with a pair of heels - 2, 3, 4 inch, i don't care. Just as long as it's a heel. Please First Lady, Please!!!
What a lovely dress! Both First Ladies look like spring!
Eh, I'm not really digging the pattern or the cut, but the shoes are adorable! Love the color of Zavala's dress, though! And the way she knotted her wrap.
this picture sums up First lady personnality.talk about never stayed on the sideline

I remember the first DVF dress I bought off the rack at Loehman's for a song!
The vintage feel of DVF is great for this occasion.
Whooohoooo! I have yellow sling back flats in this color. I have something on my closet like Mrs. O! OMG! I want to thank everyone who contributed to me getting here. I want to thank the Lord, my mama, my 6th grade teacher, my Englisg professor, the ladies at TJ Maxx and all the beautiful people on Mrs. O!
Mrs O looks very springy. I loved that she didn't add any fuss to the look with bracelets and pearls. You know the first thing we think about when we wear something floral is "where are my pearls".
They both look adorable!
THIS DRESS IS NICE SHE NEVER WEAR IT BEFORE BUT THE FLAT SHOES SHE WEAR BEFORE.
This is a nice dress .. I love DVF.
My wish has been fulfilled-Michelle is hitting it out of the ballpark on this trip. The blue print dress earlier is one of THE most gorgeous things I have ever seen on her, and now this lovely floral print! I'm in heaven.
I love the flats! As a tall person, I can totally relate. No sense towering above people, when there are so many cute flats now in pretty colors. The yellow shoes are what makes this outfit special. Imagine it with beige or white shoes-no way. Michelle has such a knack with color and accessories.
Seeing the first lady dancing and jumping with the children I can understand why she chose to wear flats. Good call FLOTUS!
This dress is so beautiful and looks comfortable! No, fuss, just graceful ease. I've never been inclined to visit Mexico, yet I've seen many pictures of its captivating beauty. The colors Mrs. Obama has selected, so far, are representative of this country's rich, vibrant landscape. Mexico is known for it's silver mines and turquoise gemstones. I wonder if Mrs. Obama will incorporate these colors into her evening/daywear and jewelry during this trip. I'll stay posted.
Michelle is seen here dancing and jumping with children; hence, the flats serve her well.

What Michelle has going for her is an advance team that will let her know what types of activities she can expect to encounter. So a 2, 3, or 4 inch heel is not really a practical choice.
Michelle does Michelle very well.
She looks lovely in a draped hot pink and printed dress speaking at Universidad Iberoamericana. I would love to know who designed this unique piece. Her earrings are beautiful as well.

Also, I love the pic's of her jumping and dancing with the kids! She's so open and real.
Oh wow at Michelle's pink dress!!
Thanks for the photos Ari. That hot pink is HOT!
I'm neither here nor there with this outfit. I think it's ok.
I love, however, the hot pink number in Ari's links.

I could and would wear this dress!
Phew, I can't wait to see the full length hot pink outfit. It looks amazing. The cut and design reminds me of a Rachel Roy dress that she wore in San Francisco last year. I absolutely loved that dress.
So far, I have loved all of the first lady's fashion choices for Mexico.
I think this dress is very pretty. Wish I could see what is at the collar...is that a flower brooch in the same fabric as the dress or is it part of the dress? I have no problem with flats...just wish Mrs. O. had chosen to pick up on the purple in the dress instead of the yellow. Her green flats would have looked great with this! Mrs. O.'s shoes look as if they may be a tad big for her.
This reminds me of my flowered DVF wrap dress that I bought it at Loehmann's. It looks just like this even down to the neckline. Mine looks like this but it is made up of turquoise, blue and brown floral print. Now I think it is so old that I wear it around the house. My stomach isn't as flat as Mrs. O's these days, so it hugs my stomach area. It is so easy on those days that I have a trip to the hairstylist. And it never needs ironing!
I'm not a fan of this DVF print dress, but I like the wrap style of it as well as the shoes. I read a pool report that said that for the choral performances at the museum, the First Ladies were standing the whole time and there were no chairs provided (odd)...so lots of walking, dancing with children-- hence the flats. But I also agree that I just love when she wears heels because I adore her height. But I also think she may prefer flats when she is with children.
here is a full-length picture of her hot "pink bodice + floral skirt" dress,, when she is tepping on the stage.

Can this woman not go through a day in her life as first Lady without people nitpicking her clothing and accessories? Those complaining about the dress and shoes forget that she dressed for a trip to go see schoolchildren perform. And as the available video clips rightly show, she joined the kids in their performance. Should she then have worn heels to dance and jump with children?
Should she have worn a suit, rather than the knit comfortable dress she wore that gave her ample room to swing her arms and jump alongside the children?
Mrs. Obama wore a glamorous dress last night and also a sexy fuchsia ensemble this evening. That simply tells us that she chose her traveling wardrobe very carefully with the requisite activity in mind.
Thanks for that really fun video, AppleGirl.
I looked at many of the pictures on Yahoo, which included the blue dress she arrived in, the dress above and the pink outfit she wore at the University. As always she looks fabulous. But more than that is looking at the way she looked at those young people, especially the children. She smiles genuinely and looks very interested in getting to speak to and hug as many of them as possible. It is so genuine that it warms my heart really... To watch her in the really pretty & feminine dress she has on above, jumping up and down with the kids at their school.. It's like, who cares what the lady wears (though it's HOT!)... I just so admire the person. It's a breath of fresh air.
I don't think I'm feeling the print of the dress, but I love the shoes.
I love this dress she looks so refreshing and I love her smile. I love how she is so warm and inviting, she makes everyone around her feel comfortable.
Ok, you guys, I just watched the video that Appelgirl provided (thanks) and I'm scared. I have never had this much love and admiration for a person that I have never met. One part of me is saying this is ridiculous and the other part is saying girl get over it. But I can't help myself, so getting over it is what I will be doing. LMAO!!!! I don't know why I just told ya'll that, but I did.
I love, love, love this DVF dress. Years ago, DVF had a line of clothes on HSN under the name DVF Silk Assets and there was a dress very similar to this one in silk. It sold out so fast as it was 100% silk and quite affordable. Diane sure knows how to dress a woman's body and this one fits like a glove on our Michelle. The yellow flats are a nice touch with this.
I saw some pics on Yahoo and on Gettyimages of her with the children and she reminds of Princess Diana and her genuine affection and interaction with children. They look like they could just hug and squeeze Michelle to pieces, and vice versa. This is the genuine article, you cannot fake this. She is incredible!
Lovely.
Oh dear. Nothing positive to say about this look.
Hello there!
Love this site-no, make it I'm addicted to this site! I think the flats are from Target via the Merona brand. See attached link http://www.target.com/Merona-Madalena-Suede-Ballet-Flats/dp/B0026MH1T8/ref=br_1_3?ie=UTF8&frombrowse=1&searchView=grid5&searchNodeID=3429561&node=3429561&sr=1-3&searchRank=pmrank&searchPage=1&rh=tgt_2%3AYellow&searchSize=30&id=Merona%20Madalena%20Suede%20Ballet%20Flats&qid=
I adore this dress, and it is a style I would love to own and wear myself. Flats yes, as a tall women myself who loves walking, I think they are fabulous too. Sheath dresses and kitten heels are not my style at all, too staid and conservative and I'm not really into the whole designer label thing at all. I'm loving all the fun bright and quirky outfits MS O is showcasing on this trip, she looks amazing!
I love the dress... I want that dress! The FLOM is quite stylish herself.
Ahhhh! At last, I've gotten a better look at this extraordinary dress! I kept noticing Mrs. Obama's right shoulder; then I went on a site hunt. This DVF dress has ruching that begins mid-way of the v-neckline, expands a little on her right shoulder, then continues, tapering off towards the back of the neckline, even down a bit. Like a corsage effect. It sort of breaks up the straight angles of this dress by adding a soft touch. So, nice!
To me, being a woman of color (actually, who isn't)! I challenge myself from time to time by purchasing prints that I wouldn't normally wear. I 'make' myself become a renegade in the classy fashion sense, as not to get locked into what everyone else is wearing. Whenever I've done this, I seem to always receive the most outstanding compliments. I've always strived to be a fashion individualist beginning at the age of eleven when I started buying my own clothes from babysitting money. Developing my own personal style/look.
So, I said that to say this....I really like the way Mrs. Obama steps out of society's so called 'visual box' and their interpretation of what and how a First Lady's appearance should be...taking it to another level!
Love the look
