Pink Power

Continuing her tour of Mexico City, First Lady Mrs. O gave an address to students at Universidad Iberoamericana this afternoon. For the appearance, the first lady wore a bright pink draped top, paired with a floral skirt and black belt at the waist.
Update: Mrs. O's ensemble is one piece, in fact, not two! The first lady wears the Tapestry Print Mix Media Dress from the Rachel Roy Pre-Fall 2010 collection.

Loves Loves Loves did I mention I Loves this
One word...DAMN!!!
Thanks Mrs T, for keeping us updated on Mrs O and her lovely clothes. I love this whole outfit and it's just what I needed to see before I turn in for the night as it's coming up to midnight over here. I must say it STILL reminds me of the Rachel Roy dress that she wore in San Francisco last year.
Chrystelle posted a link to another website which shows more pictures of this event and in one of the pictures it looks like FLOTUS is completely overwhelmed by the love and attention that she is receiving. In fact, when I saw the sheer numbers of students that attended, I too was overcome as well. And this from a foreign dignatory. Simply amazing.
I just watched the NBC interview and it was really dumb. LOL. There were like 3 questions aired, one about who she thinks Mr. O should name on the Sup. Ct., and whether the person needs to be a woman; the next was why doesn't she provide controversy...is she feeling confined because she doesn't want to be controversial; and the last one was why she isn't talking about the drug war, and whether the U.S. drug consumption is a problem.
She was very diplomatic in her answers. She said that her husband will nominate someone after being deliberate, etc., much like he did with Sotomayor, but that diversity is always important. On the confined question, she said that her role as First Lady is not confining, and that she isn't controversial because she's strategic and wants to further her husband's agenda, so that's her focus - doing things that move his agenda forward. The drug war question, she basically said that both sides (US and Mexico) have shared responsibility on that front.
Savannah Guthrie was the interviewer and she was dying for a gaffe or anything. Her question on why she's not providing controversy came across awfully desperate to "make news." I'm disappointed that we got no questions about her observations of Haiti after being there in person, her thoughts on Mexico and the people she's interacted with, what her goal is in terms of reaching out to the youth and whether her "Let's Move!" campaign was going to make an appearance in Mexico. I would have liked to hear how Mexico won out as her first international trip even and whether immigration has anything to do with that.
The questions were much more about dragging her into the crap they have Mr. O in. I suppose that is one way to do it, but it would be nice to just be boring and inform us of what Mrs. O is doing in Mexico.
Anyway, that's the play by play for anyone who cares. I was simply annoyed when it was over and my boyfriend doesn't care about me venting about a bad Mrs. O interview, so I came here. LOL.
Her dress looked lovely on tv. Pink is her color without a doubt. I'm glad Mrs. T found a full shot so we can see the fit, which is like a glove perfect.
I love it. Best outfit so far on this trip. I love this color and these kinds of draped necklines always look amazing on her!
I love Mrs. O's color choices!!! So bright and springy! We are so fortunate to have such a smart, beautiful and stylish First Lady!
IVA - you allude to the fact that the media wants to incite controversy as opposed to allowing Mrs. O to talk about issues that are important to her.
The amazing thing is Mrs. O manages to convey intelligence and be classy regardless of what the media throw at her and what the pundits analyze. They can't do anything about taking away her charm and poise, try as hard as they might.
It's a shame that newspeople play that game.
This outfit is gorgeous, and perfect coloring for her.
Lynn Sweet has a full-length picture of Mrs.O on her website.she apparently shot it herself.
I love the outfit, though it looks like she is dressed for an evening cocktail or a wedding. It is very pretty and her arms look great in it! She looks very first lady-ish!
I saw that too IVA and her first answer to the question was that she tries to be strategic, so why the lady kept pressing for her to say something was beyond me. There was an interview on the Situation Room that aired today and they asked about the drug war as well. They did ask about her stance on immigration and she said that she believes what her husband believes, that there need to be some strong immigration reform. She also said that it doesn't matter that that's what the President wants, but we need for democrats and republicans to want the same thing. The Cnn interview was better and I'm sure it is up on their website.
BTW, I love this dress and all while she was talking I was staring at those beautiful earrings she's wearing. You can't see in the pic, but they have diamonds or something going around them.
IVA, I agree with you about the interview but at the same time, it's another reason to really admire Mrs. O. She handled it diplomatically. I think it's hard to interview a First Lady - do you drag her into her husband's politics/decisions or do you ask her about clothes and Let's Move!? I tend to think of it as ... Mrs. O is a grown up and she can handle anything. So in agreeing that Savannah was digging for a controversial snippet, it only served to paint Mrs. O in a (more) positive light. And anyway, the outfits in Mexico have been stellar!
Man I wish I could have been there to hear her speak. I love her outfit very stylish.
The NBC interview questions are so inappropriate and tabloid-ish. Sad state of journalism.
Saw a full page of pics from Day lIfe, love the day and evening dresses.

No surprise that it is a Rachel Roy. The dress with its satin band and appearance like a top and skirt reminded me of sth i had sene before on her. I remembered that Reed outfit but couldnt remember the designer. No surprises there.
As Stevie Wonder said, "Isn't she lovely!" This woman is simply amazing. I don't think we'll EVER see another FLOTUS like this one.....we had not in the past. She is in the zone with everything that she's doing to enhance her husband's agenda (which is America's agenda) and aren't we all better because of it!
I LOVE Rachel Roy designs, She knows how to dress a woman's body! BTW, are these the same earrings the FLOTUS wore when she disembarked in the blue floral dress? Still waiting for a close up of them. They looked like flowers or shells but I couldn't see detail in any photos.
OMG! Now, she HAS hit it out of the park! she makes me so proud! SO SO SO PROUD!!!
Just looked at the daylife photos Tru linked us to - EVERYONE, you must look at them! Nope, now I don't think these are the same earrings she wore with the blue floral dress. LOVE the bias drape of the top of this dress! Love the colors! A drape works well on anyone who is not well-endowed and this look gives her that hourglass figure we all want - perfection!
Here is a link to video of today's events including Mrs. O walking up to the podium at the youth event. Gives a full view front and back of pink/floral dress. I like the black stripe down the back of the dress. http://www.whitehouse.gov/photos-and-video/video/actualizaci-n-de-la-primera-dama-michelle-obama-en-la-ciudad-de-m-xico-no-2
Mrs. T you HAVE to feature this photo! you HAVE TO!!!! It's BREATHTAKING!!! OMG!!!!!!

Look through ALL the daylife photos from today. Watch how she is with kids. She reminds me so much of the late Princess Diana.
The best word to describe this is radiant! Mrs O. knocked it out of the park from her arrival to this ensemble.
10!
Another gr8 style and color on Mrs. O. She looks wonderful yet relaxed and approachable. I'd like to see a full shot of the dress.
The skirt is beautiful, the belt is great, the earrings look fabulous. I'm not so sure about the top. The color is great and the style shows off FLOTUS"S amazing arms but all the folds make it look a bit droopy in this picture. That said, it probably looks great when seen in person .
Today she was at our University. Do you know her perfume brand ?
The full video of today's visit is here http://www.ustream.tv/recorded/6181956
Very, very pretty....terrific color! Her hair looks great, too!
Here's the interview IVA was talking about....
http://ochairball.blogspot.com/2010/04/michelle-obamas-interview-with-savannah.html
I do not follow Savannah Guthrie. I usually watch CNN. I think Ms. Guthrie appears too checky and unprofessional. Like they are girlfriends or something.
Mrs. O handled the interview perfectly. She knows how to handle these types! She answered all the questions very real and diplomatically. I like the fact that she knows her power as FL, wife and Mother.
I like this dress very much and think she looks lovely in it. I do think it is a tad cocktail/evening 'ish'. The color is great on her. Maybe...she is headed to dinner!
I love this look on First Lady Michelle....
I love this dress--it seems very Mexican, the color, the fit, the print. Maybe it's because hot pink is one of the main colors I associate with Mexico. I'm glad Michelle Obama is making her first solo trip there--there is so much the two countries can collaborate positively on, especially when it comes to children's issues.
I just couldn't love your dress more. Impressed by your fashion sense... Beautiful, in one word.
to IVA,
You said, 'Anyway, that's the play by play for anyone who cares. I was simply annoyed when it was over and my boyfriend doesn't care about me venting about a bad Mrs. O interview, so I came here. LOL. '
My question, so how, do you care, exactly? What do you do everyday? What aim do you have? What answers do you have? And how are you going to reach your goals? Do try to answer all my questions, and why don't we go into discussions, if you like?
Take care,

See Mrs O stalking is fun. :)
FLOTUS is hot!1
Pretty sure this is a dress, not skirt and top. Very pretty too. Love the earrings!
It is not" tabloidish" to ask policy questions of the First Lady when she is representing the Administration in Mexico.
Tabloidish would be questions about fashion, sex, drugs, etc, personal questions.
This is responsible journalism, and incidentally, she handled it well. She was prepared. The media is not going to be totally fawning as you seem to expect. We have freedom of the press in this country and the Obamas work for us. They are not royalty.
wow beautiful color ,,,,,and the dress is lovely.Love this woman. Two thumbs up Mrs.O.
That Savannah Guthrie interview could have been done by a National Enquirer , The interviewer was obviously digging for something else, but Mrs.O as diplomatic as she is handled it very professionally.
When asked about the presidents pick for SCOTUS, Mrs O should have said her husband would choose her(FLOTUS). bUT iT WOULD BE SOOO BORING FOR HER WEARING BLACK EVERYDAY.
Flats are inappropriate, huh?

I knew it !! I knew from the moment I saw that dress that it was a Rachel Roy. I love it. The colours are simply beautiful and FLOTUS glows in it.
Thanks Anagrom for those lovely pictures of FLOTUS. The mustard coloured dress is coplimented beautifully by the large gold cuff bracelets. Mrs O has been simply divine on this trip and her speech was amazing. I was almost in tears.
An inspiration in intellect, style and media savvy. And the best thing is, Mrs O may be leading the way but she is not unique.
Thanks for the continuing coverage, Mrs T.!
Great color choice. Also, the belt is perfect here.
Gorgeous. BTW, even though it is a one-piece, that is EXACTLY where her belts should sit when she wears separate pieces.I especially love the ruching of the top of the dress. Lovely colors, perfectly accessorized (I am assuming she did black shoes with it), but anyhow, Rachel Roy suits her marvelously!
Hmmm. There's a lot I'm not liking here... in fact so much that it'll just turn into a criticial list so I'll just say that I hope she's having a LOVELY time on her trip!!!
Mrs. Obama looks absolutely stunning in this dress! The draped emphasis in her bodice is so delicate and unique as it ends in a slight gathering on her left shoulder. I really like the richness of the colors in this dress.
The camera lens, lighting used here really doesn't give the colors in this dress the justice it deserves.
@Gabriella, I read that she wears "Love in White" by Creed. I've seen this perfume on Ebay, and Saks.
@ Simple Pierro - I'm just a normal person, living my life as best I can. I don't know what your questions are getting at, frankly I don't care. Have a nice day.
Are you sure it's two pieces? I looked on Rachel Roy's website and the skirt is clearly there but the fuchsia top piece it missing.
LOVE HER BLOUSE I MEAN DRESS LOL VERY NICE LOVE PINK AND OF COUSE HER SHOES MUST BE A BLACK SHOES SHE WEAR BEFORE.
@Jessica, it's one piece, a dress. I heard from the Rachel Roy team that the dress will be available at Neiman Marcus in June.
Oh MY GOD!!! This dress is FABULOUS!!!
I love this outfit.
