Radiant Red

Photo by Yuri Gripas / Reuters

First Lady Mrs. O met with the National Governors Associaton today, greeted by Governor Joe Manchin III of West Virginia as she arrived at the event. Dressed in a radiant red sheath dress, the first lady spoke in an effort to rally support from the nation's governors for her "Let's Move" initiative to combat childhood obesity. For more on the event, the Washington Post has an overview, here.

The choice of bold, red color seemed aligned with the first lady's call to action. As reader Rocky writes: "Mrs.O not only seeks to grab the attention of the governors with her message, but also with her choice of color. It's an inaudible call for people to take action and not slip into the background." Well said, Rocky!

Speaking of the dress, might this be the same MDLR (by Moises de la Renta) frock that we saw Mrs. O dazzle in last August, as seen here? While the lines of the dress are the same, the hue does appear more red-orange in the photos above. I'm awaiting confirmation from MDLR, and will relay once certain. Update: I've heard from MDLR that, "It appears to be an MDLR dress," in the same cut as the red dress, "but a more coral color this time."

Glad you have posted the pictures. i posted a link to the address itself on the previous thread. She was spectacular. So proud of her.

Here is the link once more to the C-SPAN video from Michelle Obama's NGA address earlier today

Here is the photo of her in the same red dress last year at the Presidential Medal of Freedom award event on August 12 2009. It is such a well tailored clean-lined sheath dress. And she looked so beautiful then and even an more radiant and passionate speaker today.

AHEM, YOUR ATTENTION PLEASE!

And if you didn't get that from this striking orange-red dress, well...

Mrs.O not only seeks to grab the attention of the governors with her message, but also with her choice of color. It's an inaudible call for people to take action and not slip into the background. I'm appreciating more and more how much Mrs.O pays attention to the unwritten rules of politics and always goes for the jugular.

Great dress, fabulous arms and a strong message all wrapped up in one. I'll put my money on Michael Kors, this neckline and cut is almost unmistakable, and reminiscent of the black dress in her official photo.

Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 9:42 PM | Registered CommenterRocky

Ok now I feel silly. Thanks zizi it is the same Michael Kors dress, without the belt - nice...

The FLOTUS always looks amazing in red. You picked the right word-radiant! Red is such a powerful shade.

Mrs. O looks terrific. Great dress, great color, great fit.

I'm glad her make-up artist has gone back to a thicker, more natural looking brow than that thin line she wore a few days ago.

I love the look of determination on her face and in her stride in the second photo. This is clearly a smart, strong woman on a mission. Love it!

Hello everybody !!!
Like Rocky i think it's more like the official photo's dress but in red-orange. My money on Kors too.
lol

If it is indeed the same dress as the medal of freedom ceremony, then it is not a Michael Kors dress. It is Oscar de la Renta's son dress.

THIS DRES IS NOT THE SAME ONE SHE WEAR LAST AUG THIS ONE IS ORANGE AND SHE WEAR HER PEARLS THAT HER HUSBAND GOT HER FOR THERE ANNIVERSERY. I LOVE THIS DDRESS AND HER BLACK SHOES.

Saturday, February 20, 2010 at 10:35 PM | Unregistered Commentermichelle

Some how I don't think that it is the MDLR dress. This one has front seam tucks that the MDLR does not appear to have. This one is more orangey red the other is a ruby red? I'm with you on the eye brows, Willow. Stunning though.

Her speech was very impressive. It was substantive, passionate, personable, and at the right times humorous.

Her idea of lets move is great. I especially like the part where they have a goal to have a grocery store in every community that is currently without one in seven years. Moreover, the school lunch program improvement is vital.

I used to work in the schools. I challenge every parent to stop by their kids school to see whats on the menu, I guarantee you will be appalled. I used to frown my face every day and think, this is what they feed these kids? The most appalling was that in the morning, all of the breakfast foods were pure sugar. I was staff and had to argue with the cafeteria lady to let me buy fruit for breakfast. Its donuts or some sugary cereal. So Bravo Mrs. Obama for taking on this challenge and looking fierce while doing so.

People were calling the dress coral so I think it leans more toward the orange family of reds. Such an electric color. And yes, her brows are soooo much better!) Flawless modern makeup palette.

Well alright! Mrs. O stick to your guns. Bare arms. Bold Color. Classic sheath.

I can't be the only one anticipating the Governor's Ball. Who else is in need of a dose of First Lady glamour?

Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 3:41 AM | Registered CommenterMcKinley

I can't decide the color, so I'll call it Michelle Red. She really can wear all the colors of the rainbow. My goal this spring is COLOR, COLOR COLOR!! Can't wait for the Gov Ball!

This dress rocks! There's something about the sheath dress that really works for Mrs. O's figure. Occasionally, when she wears other outfits, they make her look bulky and a bit hippy. The sheath dress really embraces her curves, yet enhance the fact that she really is quite physically fit!

What a beautiful and eloquent speaker, a real God's blessing to humanity! Michelle Obama Doesn't not only impact the US with her let's move initiative but the world at large. Bravo FLOTUS, I am from England and am impressed by your ideas and creativity.
Like the red dress, like the fit and like the body that carries it-------------------health is truly visible and palpable!!!

Looking at the picture reminds me of the song – “Lady in Red……Never seen you shine so bright….Never will forget the way you look tonight….your’e amazing….Never seen so many people wanna be by your side…..and when you turn to me and smile…you took my breath away.” Mr. O must be so proud of her. Agree with the writers who mentioned
(a) “embraces her curves….(b) " I am" excited about the Governors ball as well.

Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 11:26 AM | Registered Commenterprettiribbons

MIchelle is indeed gorgeous, driven, poised, and possessed of a fierce intelligence. She seems also to be immensely caring. How exciting that she is really speaking out now. So listen up, people! I know I am!

I much prefer the second photo. The devil in me wishes that in the moment after the first photo, she would have somehow managed to push Gov. "cheek-to-cheek" Manchin ever so slightly off balance. heh heh

I also so wish she would wear different bras, and for all types of outfits--from the most casual to the most glamorous. Others have referred to this as well. It is undeniably a delicate topic. But it would make such a difference, in my view, how everything fits--esp. the sheaths we all seem to love so well otherwise. Just this minor change could bring what is almost perfection to always perfection. Or at the very least, close to it!

In the meantime, I can't wait to see what new gorgeousness awaits us tonight!

She looks amazing at the music workshop! From what I can see, it's black cardigan over a lowcut printed blouse with her famous black belt and a black pencil skirt. She's also wearing very high heels. It's a very sexy outfit. I love it but I can see her getting some criticisms for the low cut blouse, because Americans have a problem with sexy women and especially a First Lady who is sexy.

But she looks marvelous.

Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 3:16 PM | Unregistered CommenterTracy

Just take a look at the whitehouse site and see Mrs O with black and white outfit, I think. Think she was wearing her Alaia short cardigan with a printed blouse and a skirt.

Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 3:41 PM | Unregistered CommenterHelene

This color is perfect on her; am adding it to the colors I love on her; brings out the warmth and sheen of her buttery-soft skintone...her hair is lovely too--I like it parted toward the side and her warm makeup enhances her natural radiance. She really looks good for her age. I like how she can incorporate some modern elements, whether in fashion or cosmetics, and yet still be conservative enough for the older generation who wouldn't identify with newer clothing and makeup trends. She really is a cutie.

She is so graceful and yes, sexy. I hope I'm still sexy when I'm 46.

Music Students Perfoemance Photo # 6 on Yahoo.....wow! But yes, maybe a little low cut. We've all done that, I'm sure. Perhaps if she had buttoned the top button of the cardi? She looks great, otherwise. She should wear this on a date with her husband ;)

What I wouldn't give for arms like that! Sleeveless sheaths never looked so good. I really like the color of this dress, it suits her. FLOTUS can wear those pearls until the cows come home, I likey!

This dress reminds me of my high school uniform, only it was blue (worse...). Not my favourite Michelle dress, probably because of the memory it evokes, rather than how she looks in it... because as always... SHE looks good! :)

Sunday, February 21, 2010 at 10:17 PM | Registered CommenterCLB

How the outfit for the music event could ever be described as low cut I will never understand. You'd have to be up on a stepladder looking down her front with a magnifying glass for that to be low cut.

This red dress is a great look - confident, sassy, elegant and classic.

Thank you, Mrs. O for your beautiful arms! I'm a personal trainer and when my female clients start whining, I just say, "You're getting your Michelle Obama arms." Everyone loves that one.

Beautiful women are strong!
