Sparkle and Sequin

Image by Kevin Lamarque / Reuters Pictures, Jim Watson / Getty Images

The President and First Lady attended the 2010 Kennedy Center Honors this evening, honoring singer and songwriter Merle Haggard, composer and lyricist Jerry Herman; dancer, choreographer and director Bill T. Jones, songwriter and musician Paul McCartney, and producer, television host and actress Oprah Winfrey. Hooray!

Mrs. O looked absolutely stunning in a scarlet floral sequined gown, designer TBD. Any guesses?

Update: The first lady was dressed in Naeem Khan last evening, wearing a scarlet colored sleeveless gown with matte crushed sequins in abstract wind blown roses on scarlet tulle. On the accessories front, Mrs. O chose earrings by Bochic, made of rough brown diamonds and 14K oxidized white gold.

Well, this night takes the cake. Mrs. O has never looked better! The gown is stunning, as are her earrings and her hair. Mostly though - she just looks happy and for that I'm thrilled. She deserves every kudos coming her way. And there are going to be A LOT I suspect! (Jason Wu perhaps?)

Hair, check. Make-up, check. Jewelry, check. Dress, double check. All that and the dashing escort made it another perfect evening for Mrs O!

Mrs O looks absolutely stunning..if I had to guess at the designer I would say Naeem Khan..because of the sequins and burned out floral motif.I think his fall/winter 2010 has similar details...interested to find out the maker of this beautiful gown

I am probably wrong, but because of the fabric, it reminds me of either Donna Karan or Vera Wang.

Whoo! No guesses, but whoa, daring. And my hunch is it looks better in person than photos.

Don't wear this unless you have confidence out the wazoo.

So, yeah Michelle. Confidence indeed.

This look is being placed immediately on my all-time favorites list. I think it might be Khan. The fit is perfect and I want to run my fingers over the embroidery. So lovely...

Mrs. O is amazing. She looks fine. Really pretty dress, hair and jewels.

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 5:56 AM | Unregistered CommenterSusan

Truly Pretty. Sparkle, sparkle, Mrs. O :-) Love the dress, the minimal jewelry and te way the dress flatters her cleavage. Her hair is done and fine; you may not like the style but it is done! Altogether, lovely. And my Oprah was honored at the ceremmony, GREAT!

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 6:00 AM | Unregistered CommenterNora

Perfection! I love the balance between the earrings and the sparkle of the gown...no necklace needed...none added :) I am glad that they are able to smile and enjoy moments like these especially with all they go through day after day.

Well you know when you got "it" you got "it"! Her evening wear is ALLWAYS stunnning.
FABULOSITY! I love her hair slicked back like that, it really shows off her stunning cheekbones.
The dress could be a Khan design but I don't think so...but I can't guess at who else it could be.
We will find out soon enough - A+!

I absolutely love this look! This is the total package and definitely a home run!!

Miss Baker- you always comment about Mrs. O's hair. Why do you have this obssession with her hair? She wears her hair the way SHE wants to, not the way YOU want her to. Would you also not type in all capitals and proofread your responses. Thank you!

She looks glamorous and sexy ... I love the look and her!

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 12:35 PM | Unregistered Commenterglammie

Just WOW. Nothing to say. I've been stunned into a gorgeous red silence. She just radiates beauty.

It took me a moment to realize Paul McCartney and Oprah were there!

This dress, along with the black Soronen one wore to the Governors ball, are my two favorite Mrs. O evening looks.

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 12:43 PM | Unregistered CommenterSildi

WOW!!! Stunning from head to toe...and the PERFECT accessory...an oh so DASHING escort! Fabulous!

Creed419, I concur.
I love this dress, the color, the material and on and on and on.

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 1:10 PM | Unregistered CommenterLuxor 77

I've been loving her outfits these last few weeks. I have been getting a kick out of reading people guess this dress - we've got some fashionably knowledgeable people on here! I wouldn't have been able to come up with a single name. Even those who guessed wrong, it's impressive that y'all had enough of an idea to venture a guess.

Anyway, I loved this look the minute I saw pictures yesterday. So sexy, yet sophisticated. Nobody does formal like Mrs. O. She finds the perfect dress 9 times out of 10. Even if it is as basic as a black cocktail dress, she manages to find one that's got some character or she'll add an accessory or two to give it that extra umph! I just can't get enough of her and her style.

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 1:17 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

This dress is sooooo pretty. Mr. and Mrs. O look great!

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:26 PM | Unregistered CommenterACE

A wow, whoo, whoa from me, too! This is even better than the Naeem Kham from the state dinner and that is saying a lot.

Did anyone notice Oprah's corset-type belt? A tribute to Mrs. O?

Monday, December 6, 2010 at 2:37 PM | Unregistered Commentera MI Mom

lol @glammie

I SERIOUSLY was going to guess Naeem Khan, but I didn't post it last night because I had no proof other than "He's made other sparkly dresses for Michelle before...? "

DARN IT! I could have looked like a *genius.*
