A Hawaiian Holiday

Photo by Kent Nishimura/Pool/Sipa Press USA

The First Family has continued their tradition of spending the Christmas holiday in Hawaii. As they did last year, the President and First Lady visited Anderson Hall at the Marine Corps Base in Kaneohe, Hawaii on Christmas day.

On the fashion front, Mrs. O paired a white tank with a graphic white skirt from the Transition 2011 collection from Jolibe, seen here. Jolibe is a New York City-based label, started by Joel Diaz and Christina LaPens. The fashion house is sponsored by the CFDA Fashion Incubator, a fund designed to support the next generation of fashion designers in New York City. It seems Mrs. O has her eye on yet another pair of rising young design stars!

Update: Mrs. O wears a cuff bracelet by Kara Ross NY

Is the bracelet possibly a Christmas gift from Mr. President? :0)
(looks like David Yurman)

Nice!! I love that the First Lady is fashion forward. I understand the "zipper" is one of the newest fashion trends.

@ Alexis, I believe that is the bracelet Mrs. O received from the President for Christmas; there was a statement quoted from him in the local newspaper in HI regarding Mrs. O and a daughter of one of our soldiers comparing their bracelets during their visit of the military base onChristmas Day afternoon.

I thought they didn't get Christmas gifts for each other. I thought I read that somewhere that they just focus on the kides on Christmas but get gifts for each other on their birthday and anniversary.

That top goes so perfectly with the skirt, I thought it was a dress!

FLOTUS's skin looks luminous in white. I initially thought this was a dress as well. This is a great outfit. I especially love the skirt but I'm unsure about the bracelet. It highlights FLOTUS's slim and toned limbs but I don't really like the design from what I've seen.

That is such a nice skirt! I really like it and good for her for supporting young designers. Very classy.

Sigh. There's lots of snow where I am so no bare shoulders for me. Lovely skirt. Any information on Mrs. O's cuff.

Would like an ID on that bracelet, a nice Christmas gift from Mr President.

Thanks Mrs T and fashionista posse ---- Happy Holidays to all.

Ciao form Europe ..

I am today a proud uncle of twin boys born in Lyon France to my brother and his wife. They really have tried for seven years and finally - with medical science are doubly blessed this evening as is our family.

I love that skirt; and that's my favorite of her various hairstyles.

It just goes to show what good photography can do. Someone commented that Mrs. O had on a wrinkled skirt to visit the troops -- foks just makin' stuff up.

She looks great! Cool, comfortable and very approachable -- which, I think, is what you want from the wife of your Commander-in-Chief. And of course, she is his wife, and so, so, SO much more!!!

http://www.styleite.com/media/michelle-obama-christmas-white-dress/ If you look at the photos on this link (you have to scroll down) you'll see the skirt has threads of what looks like powder blue running through the gray graphic design and lines.

Very, very pretty! I really like the skirt.....the bracelet is eye-popping chic! Mr. President's is dapper, as always! I like the subtle pattern in his shirt! Nice! A beautiful First couple!

I own up to making the wrinkled comment, but I was making the same point that the rest of you are making here: originally I saw a bad photo that gave that impression. I was thanking another poster who provided a link to a better photo that showed the details better. I think a lot of criticism on what she wears may be due to photos not telling the real story.

How gossip gets twisted and spread. It's unfortunate that hit and run posters have left in their wake some paranoia here. Also unfortunate that it amounts to a win for them. I am not one of them and have always shown respect for our First Lady.

@McKinley

Here's the quote:

"Earlier Tuesday, however, the president said in a radio interview that he and the first lady decided several years ago not to buy each other presents. He said the only Christmas presents he needs from his daughters are hugs."

Here's the link to the article that the quote is from:

Sometimes things can change. At her visit to the medical center, she said that they only open presents from Santa on Christmas Day and other presents are opened either before or after Christmas. What we know for sure is that it was a Christmas present and her husband was very quick to point that out. I like to think it was from him, but we can't be sure.

Happy New Year Mrs O fans! Mrs. T I hope you are enjoying the snow and are all fashionably wrapped up. Snow is a good time for cool winter hats.

Saw this and thought everyone would enjoy a look back. Be sure to click on (see some of her stylish photos) They are great and I had missed a few.

@Mica, just last year Mr. President and Mrs. O were play fighting over who gave the best gifts for Christmas during the Christmas special with Oprah. He might not be out buying Birkin bags from Hermes and she might not be plunking down a plethora of stacks for a Bugatti, but they do exchange gifts!

If you clicked on "next" when you got to the link I posted there is a fabulous back view of this skirt - it has a bold gold zipper and she is wearing gold metallic ballet flats with it. Ladies, it is ok to "mix your metals"! LOL!

Interesting skirt! It seems made to order for Mrs. O's preference for higher waist lines. I think the angular lines of the bracelet echo the design of the skirt nicely. I would like to see the skirt with other colors of tops.

Mrs T,

Since the year is winding down, in your opinion which year of the past two has been the most impressive to you for Mrs Obama?

I'd love to know your opinion and why.

SPQR1052, congratulations on the precious gift of twins to your family! What a blessing!

God bless and protect our wonderful President and First Lady. They are really a great gift to the United States and the world.

anne#1 - thanks for the fabulous link. Like most regular posters I'd seen many of them, but it was fun to see them again. And there were definitely a lot that were new to me. She is something, isn't she? So glad we have this blog to chat about her style.

Pete Souza has posted The Year in Pictures. They are all fabulous and this is one of my favorites:

Michelle does classy elegance even when she is holidaying somewhere warm. Simple fresh colours, patterns and fabrics, comfortable walking shoes, cute diamante earrings and a lovely bracelet. This is a beautiful look.

@Ruddy Even though there was a post on this site with Mrs. O with the red sweater/belt combo, Thanks for sharing the link! Those photos gave different shots of the activity, very nice to see them! Again, Thank you and Happy New Year!

If I can be in the minority without causing too much backlash, while I love the skirt, I do not love the exposed zipper. http://tinyurl.com/378csab It seems to be a trend that is cropping up more and more. Kate Hudson did it and it just looked like a bad alteration job to me. It may be edgy and hip (if I'm not dating myself), but it just looks like it's unfinished or they didn't have enough material to finish the dress. Accidents happen, and then it becomes a trend. Someone help me to understand (no snark please).

If fashion ruled politics, Mrs. O would be at the very top. She can really turn a head. And she's kind, sincere, smart and a great wife and mother.

Wonderful outfit. I love that these two happily give up a part of their Christmas Day to give time to servicemen. Didn't see my head of state doing anything but dismantling public service!
