A Pretty Pin For You

Dear Readers,

It's hard to believe this little blog began in September 2008! The first lady and her dynamic, ever-evolving style continue to draw us here in celebration and admiration, even two years later. On a personal note, I want to thank each of you for your ongoing support and contribution to this blog. Your comments and insight make it what it is. (Case in point: without reader "marky mark," the internet wouldn't be buzzing about Mrs. O's latest Marc Jacobs frock!)

In honor of the holidays, and to say thank you, I am giving away a vintage Hattie Carnegie silk brush pin, similar in style to one that the First Lady often wears. Pictured above, this vivid green gem is 4 1/2" inches in diameter ... an accessory for the bold! It is in stellar vintage condition, save for a slight faded spot on the enamel center button. You can see Mrs. O wearing her orange Hattie Carnegie pin here or here

For your chance to add this Mrs.O-inspired pin to your jewelry box, please add a comment to this post. I will select the winner via random.org on December 24 at 9pm EST. Please check back then.

Happy Holidays and THANK YOU! xoxo Mrs T

Update: Congratulations to Megan B. who posted comment #163. You are the winner, picked via random.org. I will email you shortly! Merry Christmas to all!

Mrs. O is amazing! I think even without the fine clothes and fancy jewelry our First Lady represent true elegance, grace and classy. Merry Christmas!

Mrs Obama fashion sense takes me back to my youth and the Jackie Kennedy era. It is wonderful to have a first lady who inspires, but in addition is so smart and nice, which of course, makes her even more attractive. I also enjoy the website of the costume jewelry collector who found the pin Mrs. Obama wore on Inauguration Day. I still remember how electrified I was at my first view of Mrs Obama in that lemongrass suit when she was going the church early Inauguration Day.

Pins bring to mind Madeleine Albright and her statement pins. This vivid green pin says "I'm lookin' and feelin' good today!" I'd be proud to wear it! Thanks, Pat

I share with so many of you a deep admiration--love!--of Michelle Obama (and her godsend of a husband), and thank you, Mrs. T., for providing a haven for those of us who see the sense of marrying style to vigor to brains to...whatever she--all of us--want to be. I admire all Michelle stands for! I love her sense of depth and inclusion. Happy holidays! (And yes, someone is going to be happy with that pin. How thoughtful for Mrs. T. to say thanks!)

How appropriate that the petals are silk brushes, as Mrs. O supports the designers and artists among us. She realizes that art and design are hard work too, and those of us who do it everyday are so grateful for that!

What is not to love about Vintage? The pin gave me a beautiful memory of my Mother who is gone but with pins like that, the memories linger on.

Bright. Confident. . Depth of character. Playful and fun. Texture and interest. The pin and the (first) lady are well matched. What a wonderful example, for me, and as for the nation. I would be honored to own that pin, and to wear it proudly.

The jewelry is so reflective of Mrs. O's taste. I would certainly like to have a shot at winning the piece, just for historical purposes.

BTW, Mrs. T, you website is excellent. I have been lurking since I first learned about this site in 2008 during the presidential campaign. I've visited your site at least every other day since that time. Please keep up the great work!
