A Fresh Pop of Color

Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton via Flickr
Yesterday the first lady traveled to Bethesda, Maryland to meet with injured service members and their families at Bethesda Naval Hospital. In the photo above, Mrs. O is being briefed by Lieutenant Commander Todd Hazlett before the visit. For the appearance, Mrs. O wore a chartreuse button down shirt with a navy skirt gathered to one side -- simple, classic pieces, made new and fresh through the unexpected pairing of colors.
Update: Thanks to rm for sharing this fabulous video of Mrs. O surprising visitors on a White House tour the same day!

Warm heart, lovely Lady!!!
I liked this outfit the first time she wore it for that Conde Naste Traveler (or something like that) piece. She had on a belt that I think she has on here, but her arms are covering it up.
We are here >><< Nyon. I too, loved the emsemble in Conde Naste.
Very nice work outfit!
Love the color combo.
Nice color combo.
I like this color combination! Our First Lady not only looks classy...she is classy!!
Look out world, the fashion extravaganza is beginning on the campaign trail.
That's the same outfit from the that travel magazine. Except minus the awesome belt she wore.
Interesting color combo, one I myself would not have thought of.
Beautiful ensemble, especially on her.
I think a large belt is underneath; if you look closely it's visible under her right hand/left elbow.
Nice that she is supporting the troops.
Love the solid colors
She looks great !
I think there is a belt too !

I adore this color combination and will immediately copy it. :-) But I wonder what's going on with that skirt? it doesn't look like a standard straight skirt, maybe like it has some gathers or pleating to it?
Love the color combination. Looks great on her. Not sure about the style of the skirt. Maybe a better picture would show more.
Okay, I'm crying. My nephew is deaf and to see our amazing First Lady make the effort to sign with that lovely lady was so touching and inspiring to me. She may only be using rudimentary sign but the message she sent is so moving to me that I literally cried. My nephew often tells me he misses out on really knowing people because they can't sign at all. If folks would take the time, as Mrs. O obviously has, to learn just how to spell out the alphabet they could get to know people like my Ryan. And they'd be all the luckier for it. (Also, she looks fabulous!)
She has on the same wide belt she wore today (Thursday) to vote in Chicago. Looks as though it might be elasticized in the back, sort of mottled cream/beige in front with some sort of a fastener. We've seen it before.
In the video, did you guys see how the First Lady "signed" for that visitor? It just goes to show how she's putting her enormous personal skills to work for this country. That visitor will remember this tour forever!
Mrs T that vid isn't from the same day, that's from the same day she was interviewed for the Travelers cover.
I LOVE MRS. O!!!!!! SUCH GRACE!!!!!
This color combo is a good one for our Michelle. That skirt has some interesting detail on it. I like that side draping, pleating or rouching, whatever it's called, it's sharp. I would not be surprised to find out that this is a dress rather than seperates. Either way, this one is a winner again.
Mrs. T....Folks....That video was done some time ago, not sure when but as I looked at it I remebered the first young woman touching FL as if in disbelief and then the action being reciprocated. Also, the signing etc.
It was touching to see it again though.
I am so proud to have a first lady who can sign - even if just simply. God bless the Obamas.
As gorgeous as Mrs. O looks it pales in comparison to her warm, genuine personal style. The way she really listens to every guest...and looks them right in the eye and puts them at ease. Well, she's magical.
Amazing grace, style, warmth and hospitality. A First among First Ladies.
Awesome woman inside out.
she seems to be a warm person! i think Mr Obama could not achieve his goals without the first lady! she seems to be so approachable!
