A Stylish Surprise Visitor

Official White House Photo by Samantha Appleton
Mrs. O celebrated the year anniversary of the inauguration today, greeting White House visitors with a surprise visit. First dog Bo joined as well! Mrs. O wore a metallic knit coat paired with black boots for the appearance.
Update: Mrs. O wears a Moschino matte lurex coat with four pockets from the Moschino Pre-Spring 2010 collection. There is a matching cap sleeve dress as well. Lovely!

Look at the joy on their faces. Its genuine. Admit guys, Michelle Obama will go down as the best FLOTUS in history.
She brings the exact ingredient of everything we want in our FLOTUS: intelligence, beauty, warmth, openess, well loved and admired by the rest of the world, and power. And that is what makes her remarkable. I'd argue she is one of the most powerful women in the world, yet remains humble in that power. That's quite amazing.
Uhmmm I have to think about this one. She was so stunning in that sheath when she went to visit the Red Cross. I hope that this is just a quick phase....
Love your blog and this photo of many. The first lady looks grand as normal and I am admiring that "BO." He's a fine dog and in this photo he's saying he is the king. lol
I love this coat! And, I love the photo--it's high on the warm-and-fuzzy scale. It's incredible how Mrs. O manages to give so much personal attention to folks, especially all of the children she meets. I can guess that what motivates her is the knowledge that a little love goes a long way.
I just saw the footage of today's tour that's posted on Whitehouse.gov and it was so heartwarming to see how people reacted to seeing The First Lady there welcoming them. As a few young ladies got to the door, they were trying to convince each other that it was indeed Michelle...they were so sweet. Her interaction with the visitors seemed so genuine, she always shook each person's hand. Really endearing. Mr. Bo stole the show, he was really into this meet and greet.
As for our Michelle's fashions, she looked lovely. I adore those boots and the ensemble was spot on. Today's events called for several wardrobe changes and she got them right. Two thumbs up!
Beautiful, beautiful coat. And how adorable is Bo????!
What a nice thing to do, to celebrate the Inauguration by going to say hi to people, I just love it.
I love this entire outfit from top to bottom!
One of my new favorite looks! Very chic & deceptively simple.
What a lovely surprise for the visitors.
C-I-D, I sat there and watched all 46 mins of that video. If I was in that line and was surprised by the First Lady, I really don't know what I would do. I know I woud be extremely happy though. My favorite part was when one man asked her how she was doing and she said, "I'm good" and he said, "yes, you are. It's Michelle!!!" Then he told her he had her doll. I was LMAO because I can just imagine how he felt.
She looked lovely.
@Nyon, that was too cute! Did you see the young girl that was so choked up she startted to cry? When that man said he had the doll, I was tempted to open mine. But alas, I'm waiting until the other one arrives. One to open and display and the other for keepsakes, as they say on ebay:BNIUB (brand new in unopened box). This one will NOT see the light of ebay's day....NOT FOR ALL OF THE TEA IN CHINA, as my granny would say.
I must say my eyes watered when I saw some of those little girls look at her and cry. She looked beautiful!
I cant see much of the outfit in this pic so kinda hard to comment. This style coat reminds me of two others that she has worn in the past to board Marine One. The one she wore on their first world trip and the one she wore last week on the way to Jill Biden's funeral. Same idea.
A beautiful outfit, and a great accessory....Bo is such a cutie-pie! He also appears to be very well-trained. Good job, Bo!
How delightful that the First Lady and her escort (Bo) are color coordinated!
This is such a dignified and lovely outfit for Mrs. O to wear to welcome visitors to the White House on the 1-year anniversary of her husband's inauguration. The long coat is a reminder of what she was wearing on this day last year.
This is quite a contrast to what she wore to the food pantry the day before, and I like that about Mrs. O--one boxy suit does not suit every occasion with her. She dresses for the circumstances.
NYLON WERE DID YOU SEE ALL 46 MINUTES AT DO YOU HAVE THE WEBSITE? I SAW A LITTLE BIT OF IT AT THE HUFFINGTON POST SITE. THAT MAN WHO SAID THAT HE HAS THE FLOTUS DOLL
HE WAS FLIRTING WITH THE FLOTUS. I AM THINKING ABOUT ORDER THE DOLL.
GOD PLEASE PROTECT THE POTUS AND THE FORST FAMILY
Hello All!
I was there yesterday at the White House for the tour! I can barely put the experience into words...I was all smiles, and my mother in tears. She was absolutely stunning and amazing and elegant. It was such a surprise that she was there -- Definitely one of the best days for me in 2010 :-)
Wow, Artesia, what an extraordinary experience for you. I am very envious!!!
What a wonderful experience Artesia. One of my dreams is to take my baby girl to the White House and have a chance to meet the First Family. I'm hoping that if and when my husband gets home from Afghanistan mentally and physically whole in 10 months that we can go as a family to let this President and First Lady know in person how much we love them.
By the way, the man who bought the doll also said that he bought it for his granddaughter. How about the cute little boy who wanted to know if Bo had a tongue.
ARTESIA, I AM SO JEALOUS BUT I AM HAPPY FOR YOU THAT YOU SEEN OUR BEAUTIFUL
FLOTUS. DiID YOU GET THAT HIGH FIVE BO?
CMB, it is on whitehouse.gov and go to the link where it says photos&video. Click on video and at the bottom they have the videos that are available.
OMG!! Artesia, although I am jealous (smile), I am so happy for you! You guys were so lucky. Did you pet Bo?
This outfit reminds me of a time when women wore "walking suits" - very 60's. Love it, but once again Mrs. O needs to step up to the plate in the shoe category. The black boots are not working for me.
THANKS NYLON I WILL CHECK IT OUT. MS T MAYBE SOMETIME IN 2010 WE SHOULD ALL MAKE PLANS TO ME IN DC
EVERYONE FLOTUS WILL BE ON CNN LIVE AT 2:30 AT THE COMMERCE DEPT.
Aside from the fact that Mrs. Obama looks beautiful, the warmth and genuiness that she demonstrated to each and every person was just amazing. It actually made me teary. FLOTUS and POTUS are working very hard for the country.
I received the doll for Christmas, it's beautiful and I am a guy too!
Thanks Everyone!
@Nyon and CMB -- Yes I did get to pet Bo. Now I am looking forward to meeting the rest of the Obama family!! (One day......)
@Dasie -- My prayers for your husband's safe return. You should definitely try and go to the White House when your he comes back. I don't know if you have ever been to the White House before, but I hadn't, so just going into the White House was a great thrill for me and may be for you too.
If you want to have your family meet them, Speak it into Existence -- I have said with confidence that I would meet Michelle Obama for like two and a half years now and yesterday it happened.
Btw, my favorite part of the video (aside from my family and friends) is the first person who saw Michelle. And Michelle was like, "Hi! Come on in!" The lady's reaction was so cute! She was like, "Is this a dream? This is a dream..." Ha ha, That was so such a nice reaction.
DASIE THANKS TO YOU AND YOUR HURBAND FOR THE SERVICE TO OUR COUNTRY MY GOD KEEP HIM SAFE.
PS THC DID YOU PAY IN INSTALMENT OR IN FULL? I AM THINKING ABOUT ORDERING THE DOLL.
AND EVERY MAN NEEDS A FLOTUS DOLL.
The black boots are fine when standing and greeting people for 45 minutes or more.
Cincinnati Kid, have to disagree on the boots. I think tights and boots look great together, and also, the room where she is greeting people is drafty. She might step outside, with Bo, and thus boots would protect her from the cold.
The White House is a magical place -- truly the peoples' house -- and I hope everyone can get a chance to visit. Clearly the Os are taking good care of it.
I agree, THC, watching the video made me misty as well. I am SO proud of our president, first lady, and first family, and the connections they are working so hard to make with the public, both here at home and abroad. And they are so genuine -- very refreshing and inspiring!
I like the boots but I think they'd have looked better if they had a bit of a heel. In this photo they photograph like socks or stockings.
One of the traits I like most of Mrs. O is that she's not only fashionable, but practical. Yesterday, I watched the entire 46:50 of the video where she greeted White House visitors. Knowing that she'd be on her feet for a long time she chose to wear flat-heeled boots. Try wearing boots with 3-4 inch stiletto heels for almost an hour and see what happens to your back, not to mention your feet! As usual, she was practical and stylish all at once.
I watched the entire video, not noticing her shoes ... and I kept saying to myself - boy her feet must hurt!!ROFL Mrs O is nothing, if not practical. She knew she'd be standing there more than a minute - and wore the proper footwear.
@mszonian524, as usual you are putting your own spin on my comment. Go back and read what I wrote. I never once mentioned stiletto heels. I said "a bit of a heel" would have looked better and I stand by what I said. I have a great pair of black leather boots with a practical but pretty 3 inch heel and I can be on my feet for 12 hours straight in them, no problem. If boots and shoes are heeled correctly so that the wearer's weight is properly distributed they don't hurt your feet. Everyone knows that.
@ Nyon, I cracked up at the man with the doll. I said this grown man just admitted he has a doll to the world...lol. Now thats loving your First Lady! :D
Dasie, God bless & protect you and your husband and bring him home safely and whole, Amen.
Artesia, you lucky devil. I watched the video and boy are we lucky to have this genuine and amazing woman and her wonderful family in the White House.
CMB, the FLOTUS doll was a gift; I think it was paid for in full.
Canyongal--GEEZ! A shoemaker in the house!
Ha ha, THC -It's the truth, though! A well-made high heeled shoe or boot is as easy to wear all day as a low-heeled pair of kitten heels.
@ O'coutoure, I know, right! Then he throws in the comment that he bought it for his granddaughter. Yeah Right! He probably bought it more for himself than her.LOL!!
