Celebrating MLK Day

Photo by Tim Sloan / Getty Images
This evening the first lady attended the Let Freedom Ring concert at the Kennedy Center to celebrate Martin Luther King Day. Though we can't see the full ensemble, Mrs. O appears to be wearing an embellished black top (or dress) and has debuted a new tousled curl version of her short haircut. Gorgeous!
Update: The First Lady wore an embellished Moschino shift dress from the Moschino Pre-Fall 2009/2010 collection.

She looks stunning! The most beautiful first lady ever!
Love her hair. I can see this new cut is going to be a lot of fun. From what I could see of the outfit on the live stream looks like another ball out of the park. But I need a better view.
A look of royalty while she waves with her beautiful smile.
Cap sleeves suits her well, can't wait to see full pic of blouse to
get a better view of details. Hair style - a big "wow" my favourite look.
I SEE THAT MRS O CHAGE CLOTHES LOVE HER DRESS OR BLOUSE SHE IS WEARRING HER KIDS LOOKED NICE NOT TO DRESSY LIKE HER AND MR OBAMA MADE A SPEECH TO IT WAS GOOD I JUST HEARD IT IN HIS WBSITE. AND I LOVE HER CURLS BUT SHE HAD THEM BEFORE AND SHE CHAD A GREEN DRESS ON.
There are also some great pictures of her on yahoo from earlier in the day with her hair not yet curled. One in a purple heather-tweed day dress with an assymetrical neckline and (signature?) pearls she seems to be wearing a lot lately.
That cap sleeve is great - another look I love on her. The hairdo is a big WOW!
She looks happy...
I wish I could find a full pic but of what I see she looks beautiful.
This woman just glowsssssssssssssssssssss
she looks STUNNING - great hair - flawless makeup !
@ Bevi - cap sleeve is perfect for her arms and silhouette
Great photo
46 ROCK
Ohkkkkk, so I'm warming up to the hair - particularly in this style. These wispy bangs give Mrs.O that soft chic look and just make you want to stare at her eyes. Nice...
THIS IS THE KIND OF HAIRSTYLE THAT LOOKS BEST ON HER!
@Aida, I agree, she does glow. She has "it", that thing that makes people take notice. On a thread within the last month or two, someone mentioned FLOTUS' hands. You can really see how graceful and expressive our Michelle's hands are in some pictures. We can't see the entire outfit but I like the cap sleeve detail on the top or dress that she's wearing. And don't get me started about her hair and make-up. I like the bob more in this curly style than straight, cute!
From what I can see, I like. I like the curls as well.
Just have to give an honorable mention to the First Grandma back there with her purple on. Looking very cute!!!
Btw, is this coming on TV or was it just for online?
She looks gorgeous and reminds me of a moviestar. Love the hair when styled like this. Looks young and funky instead of dowdy.
Ha Ha the joke's on me; I just looked at Getty Images and Mrs. O's most recent pics show her in a purple dress and her longer "old" hairstyle. So I'm like "What the heck!?" Turns out they are WAX FIGURES of Mr. & Mrs. O.
Just wanted to say that "michelle" is correct, Mrs O has sported this look before. Early last year, she and the President hosted an evening at the White House honoring singer/songwriter Stevie Wonder where she had her hair styled in the same fashion and wore a beautiful emerald green dress...the look reminded me of those fabulous Motown girl groups of the 60s :-) It certainly does look great on her too...very fun!
Happy New Year to all, and again thank you to Mrs T for this enjoyable site...keep up the good work!
Wish I could see a full view, but what I can see of her hair and outfit are very, very pretty.
@ babs, LOL!
I LOVE her hair with the wavy look--PERFECT on her--I've been trying to convince my mother to do this with her bob; maybe this will convince her...she looks gorgeous !!!
I can't believe there are any more pics of Mrs. O at this event. I would love to see the full dress
FYI:
There is a really cute close-up of this shot at the NY Mag lookbook: http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2009/04/michelle_obama_slideshow.html#photo=2
Here is the blurb about how much the editors like this look. http://nymag.com/daily/fashion/2010/01/michelle_obama_looked_smashing.html
Oooo. I like. Too bad there probably won't be any full-length photos of this look.
We need a petition-drive requiring that Mrs. O pose for a full-length photo for every look! (Poor thing... could you imagine if she actually HAD to do that?)
BTW, the Washington Post has a book coming out on FLOTUS' first year. I'm not sure, but it may be mostly a photo-book with text by Robin Givhan. I know many have issues with Robin, but this excerpt is very sweet. I don't always agree with RG, but I like her writing & her sense of humor. She does know fashion & politics (and she was very funny on WaPo's Sunday night Golden Globe chat.)

@ Jeb, actually her was a little different..in that it was in soft spirals...not really a sweeping bang. This style is close, but its certainly different.
Mrs. Obama looks absolutely radiant! She's aging beautifully and gracefully, just like her mum! I really, really like her black sequined top or bodice.
I think you mean "tousled" but you are right -- the hair is gorgeous and she looks stunning!
Mrs O is greeting visitors to the White house on Whitehouse.gov live; it is so interesting and she is sharp as usual!
Her talk today at the Mayor's Conference will be aired on C-Span 3 at 3 pm eastern today.
Mrs.T there is a picture of the first lady and the first dog on the white house blog of this morning
Here is a lengthy video of Mrs. O taking time to greet visitors to the White House:

VERY SWEET and Mrs. O loves absolutely lovely in her beautiful ensemble.
She looks gorgeous - I love the top.
Her hair rocks!
How in the world did she attend a major event like this and there isn't one full length picture anywhere to be found? :(
I guess we can find the image on instagram viewer - where you can find every public IG posts and browse every Instagram account anonymously. No more endless scrolling or logins. Just pure, uninterrupted enjoyment.
