The Obamas have arrived and Mrs. O has changed clothes! Mrs. O is wearing a chartreuse silk crepe sheath dress by Jason Wu dress paired with a black coat duster by Michael Kors, cinched at the waist by her signature Azzedine Alaia studded belt. If these first two ensembles are any indication, we have much to look forward to this week!

To put a modern spin on a famous quote by JFK, I think Barack Obama is about to become the man who accompanied Michelle Obama to Great Britain!
You know what guys. I have had enough with the unwarranted attacks against the First Lady by staunch Jackie O. supporters. I love Jackie's style, grace, and elegance, but the comparisons of her and First Lady Obama need to stop because it is only fueling people to criticize the First LAdy for no good reason. First Lady Michelle is her own woman, she's not Jackie O, she's Michelle O.
I love this outfit! Even the belt which I don't usually like so much is working perfectly here, making Mrs. O's point about recycling without looking as though she is repeating herself. Our First Lady is doing herself and us (the US of A) proud.
I have a home studio and just hope I can get my work done this week while I follow this website and all the others obsessively to keep up with what the First Lady does and wears. Bravo, Mrs O, it is a privilege for us to watch you as you spread your wings!
First Lady Obama and President Obama look wonderful. I wish them well as they work diligently to find solutions to our economic problems. Morever their mere presence reverses the negative image that America has held for the past eight (8) years.
They both look hot, but I must say, this look is reminiscent of the Oprah magazine cover.
Not to change the subject... I know it is Mrs. Obama's style oriented website and I do greatly admire her clothes and her looks. Just want to take an opportunity and remind everyone that she is all that and BRAINS too!
Annabele...Your right! The first people who started saying she reminded them of Jackie early in the election I thought was over blowing it.
Michelle and Ms.Kennedy are similar in the sense that both women loved fashion. And that is were the similarities end folks! Ms. Obama has a totally different idea of style and background than Ms. Kennedy had. I think both women should be judge separately and not as one being. I hate when the media keeps comparing Michelle to Ms.Kennedy...They really need to end that talk.
Personally, I think Michelle is a mix between Hillary Clinton & Laura Bush. Ms. Clinton was a highly trained lawyer like Michelle and both women are from Chicago. Laura was quiet and reserved picking issues while First Lady that didn't interfere with harm her husband public image. Michelle is following Laura Bush path in safe issues to support.
So, in an odd way Michelle reminds me of hybrid of between Hillary & Laura. With a touch of Jackie Kennedy glam for fashion.
it doesn't seem like anybody wants to respond to comment about a few Jackie O supporters attacking First Lady Obama.
So true Julie!
Debra, just a heads-up; if you're an Obama supporter, avoid Timesonline like the plague...they are a Rupert Murdoch owned publication - think New York Post - and simply exist to trash so called "liberals' and of course the racial complexities regarding Barack Obama have only fueled their nastiness-
Thanks Tia. I agree Mrs.O is nothing like err. Mrs.O. LOL
These first thrilling images of the First Couple departing DC and then arriving in the UK are about to become as iconic as the photos of JFK and Jackie arriving for their first official visit to Europe.
The Os embody the same visual power - they are the image of the USA at this moment in history and all the hope, intelligence, youth, energy and glamor this entails.
The world gazes upon them and sees all of us.
How fortunate and proud we are.
Look at us world ! We have changed, and for the better.
Agree with you Leah D, Tia and others...
Our first lady should wear only the very best! Absolutely no J.Crew or Gap for an important ambassadorial trip such as this...
Nobody required it of any other first lady or questioned their choices for that matter; Oscar de la renta the prefered designer for Laura Bush and Hilary Clinton does not come cheap!
And as long as Mrs. O's paying for it, she ought to wear exactly what she likes and can afford-
A note to those of you despairing of her kitten heel -- I've spent the evening reviewing photos and video footage of the other officials' wives and every last one is wearing either flats or very low heels. And, when you consider that in the course of 8 hours, Michelle has crossed however many time zones, taken two helicopter rides and an international flight, stood through a few receiving lines both here and in the UK and endured dry air, cabin pressure and goodness knows whatever else -- how can you possibly fault her for wearing comfortable, practical (yet still beautiful) low heels. It's not like they're Payless!!! For sure they are Jimmy Choos.
Sorry glammie, but she almost always wears low or kitten heels; it has become a staple of her wardrobe. And just because the other wives do it does not mean we have to love it on her. It's all well and dandy that she wants to feel comfy, (and believe me, the air in Air Force One is better than the air in both our houses, not to mention the comfortable setting. They even have sleeping qaurters, a mini-gym, and a shower. So it's reaching a little to blame her dislike of heels on the trip). I agree the shoes she has on are pretty, but I still would love to see her rock some heels (at least the height of the one she wore with the purple sleeveless dress in Minesotta last year or like the ones at the inauguration). They just complete the outfit so much better and would make her look like the supermodel she is built like.
One more thing, Mrs. O does have a bit of Jackie O is her dressing style. She picks the best of what was then and adapts it to modern style. And for those disparaging Jackie O, (who I do think was a great dresser and very fasion forward for her time) we are not talking backgounds here, but clothing style. So anytime Mrs. O's style is compared to her, it can only be a compliment.
Wednesday's schedule for Michelle - all that I have found so far:
All times are U.S.A. Eastern time:
12:35pm - Barack and Michelle Obama meet with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
1:00pm - The Obamas attend the G-20 leaders reception.
(time ???) Michelle Obama joins Sarah Brown for a tour and meeting with staff at a cancer care center in London.
p.s. I think it is a high compliment that there are those in the media that are comparing Michelle's style to Jackie O's. Jackie Kennedy was the 'only' First Lady that I have admired in my lifetime before Michelle came along. They both are examples of class, poise, and grace.
Leah D, what time is that our time in the US. Dom't they have a time zone difference?
Thanks
Oops! Sorry! Never mind. Just noticed you said US time
Tuesday evening after arriving in London the Obamas visited a school. I won't post the link here because it will go into moderation.
Go to: www (dot) Telegraph (dot) co (dot) uk
then do a search for the article titled:
G20 summit: Crowds gather to meet Barack Obama as he speaks of close US-UK ties
The article says that the President gave a short speech, Michelle held a child for some time, they worked the crowds, etc. No photos that I have found yet of the event.
Sorry about my multiple posts, but I just found some more info in a British newspaper:
Barack Obama and wife Michelle will sit down with Gordon Brown for a full English breakfast this morning (Wednesday) and be applauded by all the staff at 10 Downing Street in a customary welcome for new presidents.
(This will be before they go to meet with the Queen.)
I am from South africa and i'm also a BIG Michelle fan!!! I also could not sleep last night as i was to excited to see what she would wear today. She looks absolutely stunning. She makes not only the Americans proud but all around the world People are clinging to her.Africa are proud of america first couple. We here in South africa say that she is America's Royal....You rock Mrs O and also Does Mr 0
LONG LIVE THE OBAMA'S .....LONG LIVE
This is a fabulous outfit, just like the departing one was. (What a waste of such a beautiful departing outfit though, to only be wearing it in the public eye between the WH and the helicopter....). I think in this case I would have preferred the belt to go on the dress directly, with the duster over it. When I first saw the footage on TV, I thought the dress was white, and I thought: she went from black dress - white coat on departure, to white dress - black coat on arrival... Not so though. Love the yellow. The fabric looks silky. Spectacular. Is the belt the same one she wore over the famous purple sheath?
From what I've seen from this morning's outfit, it's so so, nothing to scream about. I hope she changes before she meets the Queen. (Nope I'm not in Europe, I'm in the US, don't ask why I'm up at 3:30am LOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOONG story!)
NEW PHOTO of Michelle, the President, and Gordon Brown standing in front of 10 Downing Street is up on Yahoo in the news, political photo section.
Michelle is wearing a cream or light pink beaded jacket or dress - it is hard to tell by the photo. A two strand pearl necklace and multiple bracelets.
Ok, it's late at first glance I thought those were flowers on the sweater but it's "bejeweled" I like it, not sure about the skirt but love the top. Leah D looks like you and I are up early/late. LOL
here's a pretty good look at this morning's outfithttp://www.daylife.com/photo/04HO39z21E0lK

Quita,
I am up late too.
Now I am off to bed, Michelle will probably be wearing something else by the time I wake up LOL.
I am not in the US, I watched the Obama;s arrival @ 10 Downing st live. Michelle's skirt is pale green, and the sweater has jewels on it ..and I thought she looked radiant and very pretty
a new outfit.. can we please update. the brits are 5 hours ahead in terms of time. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/business/7975851.stm
For the breakfast meeting at N0.10, Mrs O is wearing a sparkly pink or white cardigan( she gets thumps up from the news team here in London) worn over a pale green dress kenee-length, has accessorised with multi strand pearls and matching cluster of pearls worn on her wrist. A great color choice for spring, all eyes on Mrs O.
The fashion team from Grazia, are speculating that it might be J Crew ensemble. Mrs O is also praised for her great sense of color and wearing a "simple, non-business, sporty and fun" look, in constrast to Mrs Brown's severely tailored formal navy blue ensemble.

thanks for the explanation gbs
I don't know why my comments haven't been posting, but here goes...I like this outfit. A definite improvement over the morning outfit. Mrs. Obama has stepped up her game. Her makeup and hair are also on point.
A series pics of the Obamas arriving at Downing Street this morning is up at gettys. Michelle looks like the embodiment of Spring!

Mrs. O. looked fabulous on her way to the plane and when she got off the plane, but O.M.G.!! What a horrendous outfit to wear to meet the Browns at 10 Downing St. A glittered sweater that reminded me of Christmas? With pearl necklace and earrings? A green gingham skirt...very wrinkled? Just dreadful. What was she thinking? It's just way too much...back to the simpler statements, please.
Christen
disagree completely
My first impression when I saw her outfit was..Spring!!!
the BBC commentators were raving about her clothes

she looks great IMO
uumm, what are you talking about Christen, wrinkly skirt?
I love the green skirt, hate the top. The makeup and accessories are amazing as usual. The 10 downing st. look seems to be for the camera, it captures it elegently.
Here is an up-close picture:

i'm copying two of the posts i made on the thread below which now seems to be discontinued -
at 12 something a.m. :
she looks fabulous, and this site is a daily pilgrimage for me too
i was just discussing with a girlfriend yesterday that we’ve seen her so far in mauve, indigo, aqua, yellow-green for the inauguration, red for the white house visit, red-black for inauguration night and the 3nd DNC, tan-and-black, and a whole lot of hot pink on those magazine covers. a little bit of yellow on the ‘O’ cover, too, but not a whole dress - so it is indeed nice to see her in a yellow dress today. love the neckline, and is this the ’star trek’ belt ?
hope we’ll see her in a white dress sometime this week, also maybe a soft baby pink with soft make-up, and olive/khaki. hope she continues experimenting with textures too - love her in lace, of course, and the crepe sheaths

and
OMG ! I can’t believe I actually called it accurately, in my post above - a few hours ahead of time…please please let’s informally start guessing/betting on what colour she wears next
i was about to add ‘and some silver’ after seeing her ‘goldenrod’ dress, and ‘perhaps baby blue too’, to the post above (honest) - don’t know what stopped me
i’m guessing something fiery and solid/dark/unicolor next, and baby blue sometime this week…

uumm, what are you talking about Christen, wrinkly skirt?

go to dailylife....to see up close beautiful pictures. I think the outfit would be appropriate for meeting the Queen, hence its more conservative look.
i'm also guessing black/pebble-grey with some kind of texture, or black lace on a jewel-toned dress, sometime this week - also maybe bronze (dress or highlights/accessories) or burgundy
I think the top is very pretty, but it does seem a bit small (maybe too short/too tight?). I don't really care for the mont green color of the skirt. The whole look though, again, is really good. Indeed very Spring like. I did see some of the BBC pictures, where it seemed to me that she was wearing a bit too heavy make-up for a breakfast/day meeting (silver eye make-up etc). Like all the bracelets. And nice heels!!!
I thought Sarah Brown looked really elegant as well, albeit a bit dark. MO really stands out!
The WRINKLY SKIRT was the result of seating leisurely in the Cadillac Limousine also known as the beast (better wrinkled than being mobbed by the waiting crowds)... and my my what grand entrance.
Most of the press photos taken of this celebrity First Couple at Downing street were taken from helicoptor, the jewelled cardigan photographed beautifully.
Mrs O is spending the morning visiting many charity organisations this morning with Mrs Brown, I think her simple choice of outfit is intentional - making her more approachable!
Wonder if she will change into a different outfit when she meets the queen at 12:30!
Just heard on the Today Show that Mrs. O was wearing J. Crew at Downing St. with the Browns. I love her top; don't know about the bottom though. But I will say she wore it confidently and apparently the British commentators love it.
I was hoping she would wear a designer, not J. Crew. Somehow, she still makes J. Crew look elegant and her lower priced choices are a big hit with the Brits. So I say rock on Michelle!
I failed to say that she's wearing heels!! Finally!!! And they make her legs look great. I wanted to acknowledge this b/c I've been wanted this for the longest time.
The wife of the President of the United States got off the plane looking like a Hertz representative. The sequined, beaded sweater -- nice after 6, but for 10am at 10 Downing?? -- fake pearls??? And who ever said London or Europe was fashion forward has never been to England. Paris and Italy yes---she needs a dresser and a protocol chief. Wonder if she will fist bump the Queen today. This woman is NO Mrs. Kennedy. Jackie Kennedy had an aura and a style all her own. Michelle can spin the story, and tell you what she wants you to hear and write -- but you will probably not see Jackie Kennedy looking like a bumble bee in any picture!
Oops. An unposed photo in the Telegraph caught her Spanx line:
http://i.dailymail.co.uk/i/pix/2009/04/01/article-1166336-04382969000005DC-884_306x434.jpg
Pretty sweater but crystals and sequins are not for London and 10 Downing Street on a March morning.
Hit Submit too soon.
The large photo on the front page of this morning's Los Angeles Times showed them descending from Air Force One yesterday. Unfortunately the dress looked much too short (photo shot from ground level) so did not flatter her knees. And the wind blew her skirt against her body so that her thighs are completely disclosed. Fabrics need to be rethought in relation to what might happen.
Bailey-- just ick at your comment. You are entitled to your opinion but it is so wrong in almost every way.
