Where is Mrs. O?

Prepping for a big day tomorrow, we imagine. Per the Chicago Sun Times, First Lady Mrs. O will host a series of events tomorrow in celebration of Women's History Month. Twenty one women including a star-studded cast of Alicia Keyes, Sheryl Crow, Debbie Allen, Bobbi Brown, Dominique Dawes, Fran Drescher, Phylicia Rashad, Alfre Woodard and Kerry Washington will join the First Lady in visiting schools and speaking to students in the Washington, DC community tomorrow.

The focus of the talks will be on the students' career goals and their achieving dreams. Later the group will return to the White House for an evening dinner and entertainment. In other news, the Council of Fashion Designers of America announced yesterday that First Lady Mrs. O will be honored with the Board of Directors Special Tribute Award at the June 15 gala this summer.

"The board wanted to give her a serious award. As part of the award, we will establish a grant in her name to support young talent, because she has really epitomized that," said CFDA executive director Stephen Kolb.

When asked if the First Lady would attend the event, Kolb added,

“I am sure she has a lot of invitations, but we can only hope and try.”

Phylicia Rashad is hot! I hope she goes to get that award - she deserves it. Most beautiful woman ever to set foot in the white house.

Alicia Keys all the way for me. She is an example of a young star that has her feet firmly on the ground and is not threatened by her peers. Classy occassion for a classy lady.

I love Alicia Keys too! I know a certain female celeb that will eat her heart out that Alicia Keys got invited and she didn't. She will remain nameless. :)

Wow - a CFDA award - now that is SERIOUS fashion cred.
How exciting.
That will certainly be a glamorous evening - I hope Mrs O attends.
I bet that will be a coveted inviation and all fashion names will be included ( or hope to be).

sounds like she's got a really great day planned. i'm pretty sure that all of those women also do a lot of really good charity work in addition to having successful careers, so that fits right in with mrs. o's focus on service. especially alicia keys, she's extra awesome for the very reason. can't wait to read all about it, and see tons of great photos.

If the economy is miraculously better comes June, then Mrs. Obama will attend the CFDA event. Otherwise, don't count on it. It will look "frivolous" during a time of crisis, and give ammunition to critics who charge that the Obamas are "elitist". The same reason why she didn't attend New York's Fashion Week, even though she was invited to quite a few shows.

Hope that list has some on it that aren't quintessentially liberal. (I have no idea about those listed but it appears left-leaning)

It would be a lovely show of unity that I believe is a core "O" fundamental. They need to keep beating that drum.

I read the article referenced, and what really impressed me was not the big names but all the DC high schools that are participating.

I think that Mrs O's "style" of getting involved in the community she lives in is impressive. This will be an experience those high school girls never forget.

She's walking the talk of what we heard during the campaign.

I am glad that Debbie Allen and Fran are being honored. Debbie is an amazing choreographer, and Fran has raised awareness with her Cancer Schmancer campaign and website. What a great supporting cast. All of these women are contributors to society, regardless of their political affiliations.

Why the catty attitude about who did not get invited? That's a baiting remark.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 8:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterBevi

Hi Bevi....

I didn't mean the comment to be catty at all. I just want our country to come together so badly.

Maybe that's a pretty dumb pipe dream but still if anyone can do it these two can.

Call me the eternal optimist!

Mrs. A,
Actually we do not know the names of the people that were invited but had to decline the offer due to other obligations. So, we do not know if the nameless person you are referring to was left out or not, but considering that 21 women accepted the offer to go to the schools to celebrate Women's History Month it should be quite an event tomorrow.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 8:52 PM | Unregistered CommenterLeah D

Magnolia, you did not make a catty remark about who wanted to be invited but was not. I should have been more clear and directly attributed the remark to Mrs. A.

I do not know the political affiliations of the invited guests, and it was not the first thing that came to mind when I learned of the list. I think you make a valid point that you hope the political spectrum is covered in these choices. It's all about politics. But all I meant to respond to regarding your remark is I thought that all the attendees are worthy of the honor.

Mrs. A - Why post a comment that you are not willing to follow through on?

From this point on, I will be direct when I respond to others' posts.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 9:05 PM | Unregistered CommenterBevi

@ Bevi,

Not follow through on? What is your point? There are many other comments to read. Don't worry your pretty head about what I am saying or not saying. Please do me a favor and get off your high horse. THANK YOU

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 9:10 PM | Unregistered CommenterMrs. A

@ Leah D, I agree! You make a good point.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 9:11 PM | Unregistered CommenterMrs. A

Mrs. A - My point is it is not necessary for you to let us know about "private" information that only you know. That is somewhat pointless, isn't it?

This blog spot is not a Page Six column where we are left to guess who did what and why or why not. That is called gossip.

I really don't care about who is miffed about NOT being invited to Mrs. O's events.

My point is: what is YOUR point?

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 9:44 PM | Unregistered CommenterBevi

I've enjoyed the special touch that the "O'Bamas" have lent to St. Pat's (from the green fountains-hello Chicago ;)) to the President discussing his Irish heritage.

Mrs O: Awesome!!! Loved her volunteering, her organizing of events for Women's History Month (I'll confess I'm kind of disappointed with the roster of guests listed above-meh, lackluster, tired, there's better material out there. My feelings-I understand you might have others. Peace).

Kudos on the Fashion Award!!!
Mrs. O is an all-around inspiration!!!

Why must everything be picked apart?
I am glad that Mrs O is celebrating Women's history month with such enthusiam from joining Mrs clinton honoring the international women of courage to the FL visiting schools along with these celebs to talk about life goals.
I think the fact that she is being so involved and active is the real topic and the fact that she is doing so much to uplift women is the true discussion
I think some should take a cue.....

The CFDA award is awesome and I hope she does show up to the gala. The whole notion that fashion is frivolous comes from very ignorant people. The Fashion/Retail Industry is a multi-billion dollar world-wide business, it can be something as basic as a white T-shirt or a something as grand as a couture gown.
The garment business is usually one of the first businesses that developing countries enter. Millios of peole are employed by the fashion/retail business so frivolous it is not.

Wednesday, March 18, 2009 at 10:57 PM | Unregistered Commentermicaro9

I wonder if anyone on her team reads this blog. I agree that we need to unify the country. I am not sure if the Steinmart ad played nationwide but it seemed to stir a lot of folks up.

I hope that besides celebrities they focus on women with education. I think there is to much focus on being famous for doing nothing and high schoolers need to see these women.

I cant remember her name but the VP of Google who has a masters in artifical intelligence would be good to bring along.

@ Bevi,

You cared enough about my comment to post about it, so clearly you care. YOu are throwing a fit about information that I had that I won't disclose? You throw a fit when you don't get your own way. How old are you, five? OK, moving on. This is laughable. Who made you the authority on what is necessary to post or not? Do you log on here to read MY posts or to read the topic at hand? Carry on. I will ignore you from now on. You are getting your panties in a bunch about my point? I must say I am flattered.

Bevi: Ignore them!
There are a lot of shit starters lately on here looking to seriously curb our enthusiasm re: Mrs O and the president.

Let's take our fun, lovely Mrs O focused blog back from the awful naysayers who lurk here to rain on our parade.

Bevi and all the great positive people: Please stay at it -
Lets make sure that these people don't destroy Mrs T's hard work by turning us Mrs O lovers off this site with their snark and awfulness.

If I am reading this post correctly, sounds like Bevi started this mess, but either way I am happy to see it come to an end.

Mrs. A, I enjoy reading your posts. Keep posting on and I think I have an idea about who you were referring to. :) Doesn't take a space scientist to figure it out.

I like this comment from a previous post that was posted by Jenn.

"Wouldn’t it be a better idea to stop trying to tell people what this blog is for when you don’t own the blog? As far as I’m concerned, MrsT is the only one who can go around telling other people what this blog is for. MzC is right. No one else is a moderator."

RIGHTFULLY SAID!

Good Morning, everyone. Can't wait to see new pictures. I am excited. This should be good!

I don't know quite where to put this, but since there are several Desiree Rogers fans here, I thought you all would like this profile from the Trib's DC bureau. Can't wait to see what she does with the Egg Roll!

Oh, and please don't read the comments if you're easily offended! I don't want people taking it out on me (seems to be a lot of that going around), so consider yourself forewarned.

The Irish Times has an article about the WH St.Pat's party. No new pictures of Michelle but the ladies present reported that she looked just gorgeous. We will never know how much, it looks like. Funny for me, because I never cared for the sparkly bow bins until now. Loved them as the accent piece at the shoulders.

Pictures coming in of today's event... what a great jacket! And Alicia Keyes looks just thrilled. I'm trying to get a good view of Mrs. O's pin, too.

Thursday, March 19, 2009 at 12:45 PM | Unregistered CommenterChicagoan

I found this clip from Ireland TV. It gives a glimpse at the end of FL green dress from the waist up. Also, it helped me understand why these state dinners are so important for diplomacy. The coverage was very favorable and that is needed b/c of the global financial crisis and before the G-20 meeting coming up.

www.rte.ie/news/6news and then click on about 5th clip down "Cowen and wife honored at White House".

Here we go... I think that may be a new brooch. Love the subtle sheen of the jacket, too. And the pleated-peplum. And check out Desiree!

Wow, what a GREAT event. I'd love to know if these are Mrs O's idea's because they are just brilliant. I mean, the talking is inspirational, but walking the walk is another thing entirely. Brava!

Alicia Keys looks like she's flying she's so happy! Sweet!

Mz._C, thanks for the link to the belts slideshow. I enjoyed it.

Love the monochromatic Black
Fit of the jacket is Perfecto. She should wear this designer all the time. No wonder she bought the suit in 3 colors.
Not fond of the flower broach; looks like she's trying a bit too hard to stick to her signature item.
Would have preferred a little kitten heels with instead of flat flats. They look better on her feet, especially next to Desiree's gorgeous pumps. BTW, D's outfit was Amazing: the neckline, the belt, the shoes (even though she should not hug Mrs. O's spotlight that much.) And that's my take on today's look. Looking forward to tonight.
