Thank you to everyone who made it out to Bloomingdale's in New York City last Friday evening for the "Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy" book signing. It was an absolute pleasure to meet so many of you, including the fabulous OperaFanatic and Bevi, among others.
Peter Soronen was on hand to sign books, and to answer questions about the now famous red dress worn by the first lady. We had no idea Mrs. O would wear another of his stunning gowns just a few days later!
I would also like to thank everyone at Bloomingdale's who made this event possible, Peter Soronen for participating (and for my own gorgeous dress!), and Glaceau smartwater for providing ice cold water for our refreshment. I am grateful to everyone involved!
P.S. The Cooper Hewitt National Design Museum has posted a video of my Q&A with designer Maria Pinto from early November. You can have a peek here. (Please excuse my rather nervous, eyes-on-notecards introduction).

Mrs. T - I just can't believe how far your little-blog-that-could has come in this short amount of time. And from what I know of you, this success couldn't have happened to a kinder person. You are an inspiration and proof of what we need more of in our country right now. We can get out of this mess if we summon as many new ideas, get some inspiration, give and receive opportunities, and of course dedicate a lot of hardwork. Congrats again!
Congrats! Looks like a success. I just got my copy for my birthday yesterday and can't wait to read it! My fiance said that it was sold out at the first two places he looked in Maryland (suburbs of DC), which is good news for you:) I will need to order a name plate that you posted earlier.
Mrs. T -
It was a pleasure to meet you! We had so much fun and loved meeting Peter as well.
Just one question: whose shoes were you wearing? They were to DIE FOR!!
Oh -
OpFan and Mr. Fanatic - that was a double treat!
Thanks Bevi! They are by "Modern Vintage". The Lola Shootie, bought on sale at Bloomingdale's in fact!
Thank you to IVA and Miss M for such kind words!
Boy, was that a surprise! I logged in for the first time in 4 days, and there I am - or at least the back of me - along with Mr. Fanatic. I love that the picture is only of my back - I feel kind of like an incognito restaurant critic. (BTW: I did not bring along a white sleeping bag with the intention of camping out at Bloomingdale's - that white blob is actually a cute little puffer jacket that enabled me to survive the cold of NYC this past weekend.)
For those of you who were not able to make the event, may I just say that Mrs. T is competely adorable. She looked fabulous - Peter's dress was unbelievably gorgeous - my husband is still talking about it. With it she wore a soft jacket (almost a cardigan look) in what looked like a silk velvet, along with textured tights and booties. Very pretty, with just the right amount of edginess. (And her ring is beautiful!)
And what a treat to meet Peter. He's so excited about all that is happening with him, and yet completey down to earth and easy to talk with. It was a thrill to meet him.
Bevi (who is so pretty!) and I were giddy and giggly when Mrs. T introduced us. It's great to finally have a face to put with a name.
Thanks, Mrs. T - and our very best wishes for continued, and well-deserved, success.
What a wonderful video to watch. You are a kindred spirit, your love of fashion has brought many joy. Mrs. T. you are certainly a "run way" model yourself. Your Mr. T. must be very proud and a lucky person. YOu serve as a well accomplished role model to all following her dreams.
My best to you and your continued success.
Another triumph for Mrs. T. So happy for you. Peter S is a lovely guy and such a generous soul. It is a real pleasure to see both of you having such success.
Good looks, all around, from operafanatic and Mrs. T.
I think we are all learning things from this blog and improving our own wardrobes.
I, for one, now own about 10 Jackie O cardigans from J. Crew.
Thank you everyone for such sweet comments!
Mrs T you did indeed look lovely. The dress.... well it's beautiful. I smiled when I saw you fiddling with your ROCK in one of the photo's!!! Glad it went well, and so exciting that Bevi and OpFan have MET!!! Woohoo!
Oh Wow! I am just Green with envy!! Everything looks so lovely. I wish you much success Mrs. T.
What a nice, early Christmas present for some of you to meet each other. I bet it was so much fun!
Any news on a possible DC book signing? I am going to be in town 17th-21st.
MRS. T,
YOU ARE JUST AS I IMAGINED, SWEET, BEAUTIFUL AND CARING. I MEAN IT.
I THANK YOU FOR THIS BLOG, I BELIEVE, WE DON'T JUST STUMBLE ON THESE
THINGS, WE ARE KINDRED SPIRITS. WILL COMMENT MORE. BUT HAVE
A FEW URGENT PACKAGES TO MAIL OUT TODAY FOR CHRISTMAS.
LOVE YOURE OUTFIT, VERY DAINTY - VERY WELL CO-ORDINATED WITH THE
BLACK STOCKINGS AND SHOE TO MATCH YOUR TOP. CAN'T REALLY SEE THE
COLOURS IN THE SKIRT BUT THEY SEEM VERSATILE, AND THAT'S WHAT I
LOOK FOR WHEN CHOOSING MY FASHION OVER THE YEARS. I ALSO LOOK
FOR FASHION THAT DOESNT GO OUT OF STYLE QUICKLY. GREAT TIME OF YEAR
FOR FOLKS TO GET YOUR BOOK AS GIFTS, SO SHOULD DO WELL. AGAIN - THANK YU.
Ann #1, unfortunately the D.C. boutique that was interested in a book signing feels they have too much going on during December, so no book signing.
I do like the neckline of this J.Crew dress--very pretty--she looks very ladylike and yet not matronly here...probably her best choice--along with a mid-length black dress with soft ruffles she wore on a date with Mr. Obama during the summer. Her hair was up in that picture. I think she looks really good in very simple clothes, in neutrals with just earrings. I do think she should be more original in her jewlery; she copies Jackie Kennedy a lot in that area.
Hey Mrs. T,
Thanks for the response. I can't believe the DC boutique thought they had too much going on! It's Christmas and everyone buys books...especially signed books...about Mrs. Obama...in DCA.
I'll order a signed bookplate from you. One of these days, I'll be in NYC when a 'Mrs. O.' event is going on.
