Congratulations to Sophie Theallet, who won the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund Award last night in New York. The first lady has worn two of Ms. Theallet's striped shirtdresses in recent months, here and here

Ms. Theallet will receive $200,000 and a one-year mentorship with fashion professionals to help market, design, and produce her future collections.

I absolutely loved the dress that she wore to the Sojourner Truth unveiling. As I become more thrifty during this recession, I find that I will focus on how many wears that I can get out of an outfit. That dress can be worn with haviananas and a wide straw hat for the beach, a smart blazer for the office or high heel pumps and bracelets for afternoon cocktails.

Well done to Sophie Theallet.

This is my first post on one of my favorite sites. Thanks for all the great fashion coverage and commentary! The two Sophie Theallet dresses are some of my favorites for Mrs. O -- fresh, classy and fun. Hope to see more in her wardrobe soon!

I truly loved those two striped dresses Mrs. O wore from Sophie Theallet. The lines of
the dresses are so classic and the fit is fantastic. Congratulations Sophie! A well
deserved award.

Congratulations indeed to Sophie Theallet - she looks so cute! incredibly proud and shy all at once! I don't mean teddy bear cute - she's far too chic for that....

(Is that Nicole Kidman in the background??!)

I really like the white dress pictured here - http://mrs-o.org/newdata/2009/7/11/in-summer-stripes.html.

Honestly, I had never heard of Sophie before our Michelle wore her dresses. Soon after that, I began to see her name and rightfully so, she deserves this recognition. I saw the runway show on the link provided by Mrs.T and quite enjoyed it. So Sophie, champagne toast to you! Posh tater, yes that is Nicole Kidman along with Alber Elbaz, designer extrodinaire for Lanvin...love his clothes!

Congrats to Ms. Theallet!
Her collection is divine. Love the colours.

I'm attaching a recent link from NBC, it's a slide show of Michelle O's looks.
I'd love the see a similar permanent feature here on Mrs. O.

Both of Mrs. O.'s Theallet dresses are fabulous! The narrow belt and sash are just right. I certainly hope that Mrs. O. will wear more and more Theallet designs in the near future!

Way to go Sophie!

Huge congratulations to Sophie Theallet! I love her clothing and also her runway show of all black models, though sad to say in this day and age that such a thing would be seen as a "statement."

I'm curious though - I thought Sophie Theallet was already a fairly well-established designer. Not that you could find her clothing in your average JC Penney's or something, but I thought she already had a "name" among people who follow fashion closely. This award seems as if it would go to someone just starting out...?

But I'm probably just showing that I'm ignorant about the fashion world. I'm certainly not begrudging her the attention and the money, I love her stuff.

Just a question for you Mrs.T. Do you ever feel even a little bit responsible in helping some of these up and coming designers get the recognition they do? I know there are plenty of other sites and news publications that report on the designers of Mrs.O's clothing, but yours is the only one (from what i have observed) that stays consistent and is fully dedicated to uncovering and confirming what she is wearing and by whom since the middle of the campaign. Outside of her Inaugural clothes, without sites like yours i doubt her many outfits since then and many of the designers (Sophie Thallet, Jasmin Shokarin, etc.), would have gotten the amount of national and international recognition that catapulted their careers, as evidenced by Ms. Thaellet's win.

I'm sure even some writers have used your site as a reference to find out exactly what she is wearing, like the Robin Givhan article about Mrs.O's penchant for Moschino designs. I wonder if she used your site to help her track all of the moments where she wore Moschino?

Mrs. T-- Here is a picture I had never seen of Mrs. O at Barack's birthday party this year: http://1.bp.blogspot.com/_2b_SPCr78uQ/Sv2DJifXgNI/AAAAAAAANAQ/GqcUV2mVKyQ/s1600-h/birthday%2Bobama%2Baug%2B4%2B2009%2Bsouza.jpg It's a really pretty dress!

Mrs. O is definitely giving her hair a break with the updos. I bet she's gearing up for a 'look" for the big state dinner for India next week.

Anyway, here is her from her school visit in Arlington: http://news.yahoo.com/nphotos/Michelle-Obama/ss/events/pl/050108michelleobama;_ylt=AsblzPdwNyvNCaL_900M1lwKO7gF#photoViewer=/091118/ids_photos_wl/r824913805.jpg

I really like the blouse and the belt. I think she could wear some cooler shoes with such a shirt, though. All-in-all, I really like the outfit.

She's wearing a pretty purple number for her military families event at the White House with Dr. B. No photos yet though. Watching it on the white house website now.

Here's pic of the pretty purple dress (I think it is a dress) she wore for the Tea today.

IVA, you know Mrs. O goes for practicality more than fashion. She knew she would be out there in the Garden, so that's probably why she did not wear some cute kitten heels or something.

Closer full length view of what appears to be lilac print cap-sleeved blouse with lilac skirt.

I didn't even think about that...she was outside in the garden at the school. Any heels would've been impractical.

I also think the purple number is a dress. Very chic. Notice how she and Dr. B were rocking purple? I'm sure it wasn't planned, but goese to show how "in sync" they are.

Wednesday, November 18, 2009 at 3:53 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

IVA, I did notice that and I thought Dr. B looked lovely. I loved her flirty skirt. Did you see how it flowed when she walked. Both ladies looked EXCEPTIONAL!!

Oh, 1 more question, Do you think the bow is a dark purple? Because I do, but sometimes my eyes play tricks on me. LOL!

There is a narrow band of contrasting pinkish hue in this photo ( the colors change from photo to photo) around the top of the skirt.

The bow on the neckline of her blouse is purple satin ribbon.

Aw. She's a doll. The honor (and the money! -- $200K will be a great help for such a tiny business.)

And, is that Alber Elbaz, the designer for Lanvin standing with Sophie & Nicole? He is also a doll.

Cathy Horyn, the New York Times fashion editor has a nice little comment on her NYT blog re Sophie.

http://runway.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/11/17/sophie-theallet-wins-cfdvogue-fund/

I knew Sophie was small designer, but I had no idea she was this small:

"She lives and works in Brooklyn, in an apartment with her husband and partner Steven Francoeur and their little boy. It’s a great place to visit: the living room is the studio and cutting room."
