Girl Scout O

Image via Girl Scouts USA
Yesterday Mrs. O was named Honorary National President of Girl Scouts USA. The position is a longstanding tradition for first ladies, extending back to 1929 when Lou Henry Hoover became the first Honorary National President.
In a statement released by the Girl Scouts, Mrs. O spoke of the honor: “It is my great pleasure to serve as Honorary National President of Girl Scouts. With their innovative new programming, ground-breaking research, and emphasis on service and leadership, Girl Scouts is preparing the women of tomorrow to be a positive force for change – in their own lives, their communities, and across the globe.”
Pictured above, Mrs. O stands with Kathy Cloninger and Connie Lindsey of Girl Scouts USA (also providing another look at yesterday's ensemble). We wonder if Mrs. O received a special Girl Scouts uniform as part of the event?

It's funny, but the same outfit looks so much better with the indoor lighting used in this picture. Still not crazy about the layering, but the shirt picks up the subtle gray of the pants.
i so love her smile.it is her best accessory next to her husband of course.
greetings from dresden,germany
NORA, I agree! I feel like the color mix is more flattering in this photo.
I think the reason the outfit looks different here is that we cannot see the layers on her arms. Since this photo must have been taken earlier in the day, and certainly indoors, I am wondering why she needed all of the layering. Still like the trousers, which are a good fit.
"Girl Scout O"
LOL - Mrs. T you are too cute with the titles you come up with! This outfit matches the 2 women from the Girl Scouts well. This is a very lovely and warm picture of Mrs. O.
In this photo, the slacks look gray. That's why, I think, the pieces look more pulled together. In the outdoor photo, the slacks look tan or khaki, not so compatible with the blue hues.
I wish the flap on her jacket weren't falling open on the right side. Hey, when did Girl Scout colors become blue and not green?
Any and Everything Lady Michelle O is wonderful!
Daisy, Senior and Adult Girl Scout have been wearing blue at least since the early 90s. I know because I was a 'professional' Girl Scout back then. Wonder if the girls are in a troup. I hope so!!
The ensemble looks good by daylight, too. Who is the pant designer?
MICHELLE LOOKED A LITTLE TO OFF AND THERE THAT DRON BELT AGIAN LOL
I live in the metro DC area, and at night, it is getting chilly out. So, maybe the layering was due to the chill when the sun goes down. I dunno, but in my opinion is doesn't look too bad.
On a side note: I've frequented this web site often and love it, yet this is my first time commenting.
I just have to say: Can this woman take a bad picture? Everyone... posed or not... is just amazing. That smile.. those eyes... she always looks so terrific!
Those pants look to me like they have a pattern, maybe a very light glen-plaid look.
Otherwise the color could be "stone" of the J. Crew Bistro pants.
I honestly like the color combo of the night picture better. I'm not thinking it terms of "rules" of matching colors, it just looks cooler and sleeker to me.
The Best Outfit Mrs O has worn since she became First Lady
Michelle has a beautiful smile.
Oh come on, people. This is a lovely outfit. The colours subtle and chic but also a little sassy. Layer schmayer! That's what gives it panache. I, for one, would not kick it out of the closet. I love watching the parade of clothes on Mrs. O even when her taste and mine don't achieve convergence. But more than that, I enjoy the causes and the events with which she associates. She's a powerful woman who seems to be able to wear almost anything--and it doesn't seem to detract from her formidable intelligence, her dynamic personality, and her inspiring humanity.
I think the First Lady adorned herself with the Blue Jacket just for this special occassion! She wanted to coordinate her outfit with the officials of the Girls Scout of America who were wearing blue suits. As you can see , Mrs. O is wearing a sweater set underneath the jacket. I think she put on the suit jacket over what she was already wearing for the day! Although the shades of blue are not quite the same, they are at least in the same hue.
I agree with the previous e-mails! Whatever Mrs. O is wearing looks great! She was just being her "real self" ! First Lady Obama wanted to graciously accept the Honorary Presidency of the Girls Scout of America and be photographed in a color that coordinated with the official representatives of the Girls Scouts of America! It's just my thought!
P.S. Why didn't they present Mrs. O with a Girls Scout jacket like theirs? Maybe they didn't think of that...... Or maybe the Jacket that they presented Mrs. O just didn't fit her !
Sandra
This is a great photo of this trio. Mrs. O's colors are just slightly different from the other two. They all look happy and lovely, but Mrs. O is the star.
Wow, they don't make Girl Scout Leaders like they used to! All of the ladies look like they are having a good time and so well color co-ordinated. This is such a lovely picture, they are all deserving of a "thumbs up". Great job ladies, from a former Girl Scout. YOU DO US PROUD!
President Obama has won the Nobel Peace Prize!
To all the naysayers who said the world rejected President and Mrs Obama at Copenhagen, this is just the real world reminding you that this most dignified, decent, peace-loving, deliberate and brilliant man is indeed truly loved, respected and appreciated the world over!
You better believe it...
Congrats to President O!
Yay congrats to the Pres...but on to more pressing matters!! What will Michelle wear!!!
We congratulate and salute you Mr. President. What an honor for our Commander in Chief !
Great Day for Mr. President! To see Crown Princess Victoria and Mrs. O on the same stage will be a treat!
This is a fabulous photo. All three of them look like they've just stopped laughing to have the picture taken. There's a lot of energy.
I agree on the trousers - they do look grey here, and that really pulls the outfit together. And I've always loved that purple jacket. Nomnomnom!
I've been so excited about the Nobel Peace Prize ALL day. SO excited. It's richly deserved and I hope it adds even more weight to his work on world peace. Good grief. World peace. We might actually have it. Dear God, it's enough to make me feel slightly giddy.
(If we do get it, what are Miss World contestants going to say their dream is?! Stumped! * mad laughter from the UK *)
I like the look of Mrs. O's outfit for the Girl Scout honor!!!!!
She has a lovely smile and it really shows in this picture.
I don't like the layers under the jacket or maybe it is just the pattern of the top.
I think she's terrific!
Aw. I like this look & I love the Girl Scouts.
(On a personal note: I'm hoping my niece's transition from a sweet little rural grade school to a rather more worldly middle school in town won't beat the enthusiasm for Girl Scouts out of her & her friends. I know my sister, the troop leader, will be disappointed if it does!!!)
I like the scarves on the Girl Scout women. Where do you get those? Very colorful and a great way to liven up a navy suit. If Girl Scouts sold those- I would buy one. Does anyone know about the scarves?
Thank you, Sandra, for recognizing the obvious. The colors were a deliberate attempt to coordinate with the ladies from the Girl Scouts and a way to keep warm later that evening for star gazing. Practical, functional, and trendy.
Just posted this on the wrong thread (stargazing). It was intended for this thread.
Her pants appear to be a color often called greige (for grey/beige). I notice that the color in the photo below leans very much toward the red/yellow end of the spectrum. Their skin is not that color! That would make the pants look more beige. This photo looks more true as to color balance.
