High Wattage Glamour

Image via Glamour.com

Check out our first lady on the cover of the upcoming issue of Glamour magazine. Breathtaking!

Glamour is honoring First Lady Mrs. O with a Special Recognition Award for her commitment to mentoring young women in the magazine's Women of the Year issue. Read more, including a full Q&A with Mrs. O, here.

Now, who made that fabulous dress and necklace?! Update: We may not find out. We hope this isn't the case. From the AP:

"On the Glamour cover she's in her own drop-waist, red cocktail dress with a modified ballskirt and a chunky, bow-inspired necklace. The outfit was from her own closet, and no designer will be credited in the magazine."

The designers responsible for these creations - both the necklace and dress - should get credit. They are gorgeous!

Update: Mrs. O wears a Jason Wu dress and a FENTON by Dana Lorenz necklace.

Oh my goodness! Gorgeous! And I love the picture of her with her interns, holding their hands. Glamour is one of my favorite magazines too. I had no idea she was going to be on the cover. I can't wait to get my copy. Her outfit is so festive. I would love to know who designed that beautiful, unique necklace. I can just imagine how Christmas is going to be just as unique and beautiful at the White House. So cool! I also can't wait to read what she says. I always love how candid and real she is.

What, another 7+ years of this ? Thank you, Jesus !!! This is now my all time favourite picture of Michelle.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:04 AM | Unregistered Commenterjestina

She looks positively perfect! This, next to the Ebony cover, is my favorite cover of her so far. This should have been what the Vogue cover looked like. She looks so festive!!! And then there's the Glamour ceremony on Nov. 9th where I'm sure she'll dress up fancy! And then there's the state dinner!!

November is gonna be a big fashion month for Mrs. O!

Those long graceful and strong arms. That glowing skin. The mischievous twinkle in her eyes. Simply deeeee-vine!

Me, Myself and No Cute Husband - Everytime I see an article on Michelle, I think the same thing. She is truly living a dream.

AND.......

Ari - I bet Michelle's team have had the wheels in motion for months to make Christmas 2009 go down in history. I bet they will open the White House to children during December and have them decorate a large tree in the White House Gardens.

I keep falling in love with Michelle over and over again. It's little wonder that after 17 years of marriage her husband can STILL look at her like it's their first date. I can only hope to be blessed with some of the Obama love.

She looks beautiful in every color.

Just Beautiful!!!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 11:25 AM | Unregistered CommenterMsP

Wee-e-ell, the Vogue cover is still my favourite (such a beautiful stance on that one and the lighting was out of ballpark great), but this is a very cool cover shot. Vibrant and stunning. Love love love the necklace, and the dress is very nice (if a bit "oh yeah, festive, mhm"). The smile is really what carries this one.

I couldn't help but notice that in the photo with her interns, five out of SIX female interns (oh yes, count them, si-hix!) are wearing BELTS. Over cardigan, skirt, dresses and trousers. A small smirk from me to the naysayers.

I also like that the blog post focusses on the mentoring aspects of Michelle's role, which is really why I'm here. I'm inspired to move forward with a lot of things that have been brewing for years. No guesses as to who has given me the confidence and that little push to give it a go. I was not blessed with a supportive family when I was growing up so it's taken me a little longer to find encouragement from elsewhere. Mrs O makes it a top priority for ALL women, to support the generation that are coming up behind.

Look forward to reading the full article by Katie Couric!

Simply irresistible! Those arms, those arms, those beautiful arms!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 12:19 PM | Registered CommenterBevi

Oh-My- God. I just fainted. I nonchalantly clicked on the link to see what was new and, lo and behold, took in a beautiful, knock out punch! It had the same effect as the strapless, glittery, bedecked with pearls ensemble she wore a couple of months ago. Thanks for this!!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1:05 PM | Unregistered Commentersd

Personally, my favorite color with my skintone but it looks Muy Caliente on Mrs. Obama! This is absolutely beautiful, stunning on her. Wow!!!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1:08 PM | Unregistered CommenterBea

As much as I am stunned by her beauty and poise, I also am reminded that she served as a mentor for a man named Barack Obama.

Even though I can't have skin that color, or enjoy her natural beauty, I can take care of myself and look for those who might need a helping hand.

In the Glamour article she says:

“I have always tried to put my kids first, and then...put myself a really close second, as opposed to fifth or seventh. One thing that I’ve learned from male role models is that they don’t hesitate to invest in themselves.”

Well said, well said.

I love that we have a first lady with the kind of clout and pull to sell magazines! She is such a multifaceted American Icon... I'm blown away by her accomplishments.

Great picture, great pose, great cover !

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 1:55 PM | Unregistered Commenterriver rush

This is pure KNOCK-OUT. The color of the dress - red hot! The necklace - BAM! Her cutesy pose - LOVE IT!

@marabout40 - so true about the little playful mischief in her eyes. This is not only a beautiful picture of her, but also a compelling picture of her.

@Posh Tater - To add to what you noticed about BELTS, I was getting an oil change and while I was waiting the tv was on and the Today Show was on. It's the 2nd intstallment that they show later in the morning. Anyway, Ann Curry was wearing a sheath, cardigan AND BELT a la Mrs. O. And then another woman (don't know her name) was wearing a belt with her dress. While I agree that the belt look has been out there for quite some time, it cannot be denied IMO that Mrs. O is making the look mainstream. Belts are everywhere.

BEAUTIFUL!!!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:21 PM | Unregistered CommenterSoke

She looks out of place on the cover............My gut reaction is the magazine is too kiddish.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:22 PM | Unregistered CommenterJulia

She looks great I love this photo and put it as a screen saver on my computer. This is such a fun picture of the First Lady. When I first clicked on this photo my first thought was "Wow" and then who ever took this photo did a great job. I like this one better then her Vague cover...Michelle looks so happy on the cover you can tell she was having a good time.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:31 PM | Unregistered CommenterTia23

This is it. She looks stunning. The red dress is a perfect fit. She is just glowing. She keeps us going and I"m loving every moment of it. Mrs. O I love you. The necklace is so beautiful. I am so proud of you. Looking forward in seeing the next set of photos. May the lord bless you and your family.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:45 PM | Unregistered Commenternuvision

While some may think that Mrs. O. is too mature for Glamour's target demographic, what better example for younger women? Why have we not seen this dress before? It is gorgeous! Mrs. O. looks great in red...wish she would wear it more often.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 2:48 PM | Unregistered CommenterChristen

....But Julia, the message that Michelle is sending out is not kiddish. Here is a polished professional woman who is dressed elegantly, beaming from ear to ear and she represents your great nation - she could never be out of place if she was wearing a black bin liner. You aren't the only one who has commented on the amount of magazine space she has had and I am not attacking you at all. However, Michelle is the first lady and she always has great things to do and say.

Professionally I've done well but it hasn't been easy, great parents but no mentor whatsoever. None of my peers went to university at 18 like I did. With Michelle here, can you just imagine the amount of little girls who will emulate her - who will study hard, give back to their community, postpone babies until a husband comes along, carve out a career etc.

She's a fantastic role model. I don't think I have ever noticed any first lady before her making such a difference in such a short space of time. When she was over here earlier this year, the hysteria was crazy. We Brits really love Michelle and women (young and old black and white) were saying what an amazing woman she is and this was after she had only been in the White House for three months.

I'm based in the UK and I doubt I've even seen a copy of this magazine but I will be hunting it down when it is released.

@julie That was my initial thought as well, but I've confimed it's not...

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 3:25 PM | Registered CommenterMrs. T

I LOVE LOVE LOVE this cover. The necklace is to die for. It looks like three bows, which is how she likes to wear her brooches anyway. She does look good in red. And her hair looks so black and shiny.

Posh, I noticed that about the interns outfits as well.

I cannot wait to get my issue!!!

Also, I think the light and fluffiness of the pic is actually what makes it so great. Just because you have a serious position doesn't mean you have to be serious all the time.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 3:45 PM | Registered CommenterNyon

Here is why I adore Michelle, and why I love all her fashion choices.....she adds her personality to it
in the photo, what is so attractive beside the stunning dress and the necklace, is the joy and warmth that radiates from the picture

love the whole look

Usually on photo shoots there are a myriad of outfits that were pulled from various designers just for that occassion. How refreshing it is that our FLOTUS pulled from her very own closet. Talk about class! All I can say is Sasha and Malia must have so much fun looking into their mommy's closet. Just the thought makes us fashionistas shudder with delight. As for this cover....PERFECTION !!!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 3:56 PM | Registered CommenterCharlene in Detroit

I keep coming back here to look at that picture it is just soooooo gorgeous!

BTW, sorry to be the grammar police, Mrs. T, but it's "whoever is responsible" not whomever.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 4:11 PM | Unregistered Commentermarabout40

Thanks maraabout40 - corrected!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 4:14 PM | Registered CommenterMrs. T

@ Charlene in Detroit - You know, I never thought about how much fun they must have playing dress up with mom's clothes (well the ones she lets them touch!). That was something I did with my mom's clothes, but when I went over my aunt's house - it was ON. My aunt loved shoes and jewelry, and since never had a daughter, she would let me run wild in her closet. Good memories you just brought back with your comment.

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 4:16 PM | Registered CommenterIVA

Oh my God ! What woudl it take to be introduced to her ? She is just my kind of a person. I have never seen her in person but I am just so much in love in with her and her style and everythig. I design some lovely one of a kind beaded jewellery pieces as a hobby and do sell some .I would like to give some to her for Christmas.

She looks absolutely stunning in this number. Whoa!!!!!!!!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 4:25 PM | Unregistered CommenterAlma

You're welcome, Mrs. T. Who and whom can be tricky. What I do to remember is to ask myself what would the answer be? If it's he, she, they, then the question should be "who." If the answer is him, her, them, then it should be "whom."

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 4:33 PM | Registered Commentermarabout40

Aw, she looks like a Christmas gift. And the way she is holding her hands is so very "her." (Has anyone else noticed that she has certain hand gestures that she repeats frequently? Im sure we all do, to some extent.)

Now, as long as these magazines realize they can have diverse cover models who AREN'T the FLOTUS, the picture will be complete!

Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at 5:23 PM | Registered CommenterChristina

Just a guess, but something about this necklace says Lanvin to me.
Gosh she has such great style and she's such a risk taker. I love that she chose this outfit for herself straight out of her closet and it's 100% her. This kind of reminds me of when the editor of More magazine said she became a little frustrated that Mrs.O would not take off the bow at the neckline. And the funny thing is, when I first saw the cover, it was the unique placement of the bow that caught my attention.
She's inspired me to be a little more daring with my clothing choices, while keeping it classy of course.

What a stunner! Indeed, the best cover girl Glamour's had in the past decade.

Loving this fabulous {and new-to-me} blog.
