Moschino and a Smashing Slide Show

Screenshot used with kind permission from BlackVoices

Our friends at BlackVoices shared a fantastic new slide show on the evolution of Mrs. O's style and we wanted to pass it along. Click here to have a peek. Of note is Mrs. O's ensemble on Slide 5, as seen above. Taken on May 20, 2008 at a rally in Des Moines, Iowa, Mrs. O wears a pear green jacket and skirt from Moschino's Spring 2008 collection - the same collection that brought us this favorite Mrs. O look as well. Accessorized with blue and green enamel pins fastened atop the self tie belt, the look is fresh, modern and distinctly Mrs. O. Paired with black pants, Mrs. O later wore the jacket in August as she prepared to give her keynote address at the Democratic National Convention. We love a hidden gem that finally has its day in the limelight.

Thanks for sharing that slide show - there were so many photos I had not seen before - they gave me a great sense of Mrs Os style progress, individuality and consistency of good choices. Im sure watching her continuing fashion evolution will be exciting to witness.
I am more impressed and enthralled than ever.

I love that she abandoned the dark, plain corporate look and opted for fitted dresses and ensembles with color. It works so well with her personality and it doesn't seem like it is out of her comfort zone.

How sad the presidential office and it's new inhabitants are subjected to this frivolity. When I hear/read of companies, designers and lightweights like Miley Cyrus attempting to cash in on the first family, I now realize the next four years or so will be the tabloiding of this family. How disrespectful.

...or you might look at it as a country gripped with genuine excitement. It's of course a fine line, but I truly believe it's the latter.

I do love Mrs. O in the ensemble above. She always look great in clean lines, and the green is so fresh and modern.

In watching the evolution of Mrs. O's fashion style, I was struck not only by the soft, rounded, body loving pieces, but that some of her outfits have an African or Carribean flavor too. It is about time that our White House has a first lady who shows beauty that is not stuck in Eurocentrism. It is a subtle but significant message to women. Look at the footage of the family visit to Kenya. Michelle Obama has an international appeal which will help upgrade America's image in the world.

To Ms Alexander -
We are not 'tabloiding' on this blog !
We are expressing our admiration of Mrs O in a very specific context.
And there is nothing wrong w/ a little frivolity - after the last 8 years, I think we citizens are accorded a small degree of it.
I can speak for myself and I am sure all other lovers of this blog - we have the highest respect for Mrs O and the rest of her family.
Discussing her fashion choices is hardly a disrespect.
It is one manifestation of our intrigue about this accomplished and intelligent woman.
Please be assured that I follow Mr Os policy / transition news, and other aspects of Mrs O's White House plans w/ equal zeal and thoroughness as I do Mrs O's fashions.

I loved that slide show! I really liked the picture of her in the pink flowery gown. She looked like a million bucks in that dress. I enjoy the fact that the clothes don't wear her, that somehow she puts her own spin on it, bringing her attitude and confidence to each outfit.

I ALSO AM GLAD MRS O PRESENTED HERSELF IN BRIGHT HAPPY COLORS IN HER STYLES. I AM HAPPY THAT SHE DO NOT WEAR THE DARK COLORS ( A UNIFORM) THAT TENDS TO SET US IN A PATTERN OF BEING THE MAIDS OR SERVANTS. SHE WILL BE IN THE BIG HOUSE BUT NOT IN THE MASSER'S HOUSE. YOU GO MRS O( NOT "GAL" ).

It is so refreshing to see a female of importance in the glamour world dress as "she" wants to and not how others dictate. I love the looks and admire the nerve it takes to wear what she wants to wear. Now maybe others will do the same thing and some of these women on TV hopefully will stop looking like the lead in pencils!
