Mrs. O was in New Orleans, Louisiana yesterday, where she visited the Royal Castle Child Development Center to visit children and promote Let's Move. While in New Orleans, the First Lady also spoke at a DNC fundraiser. On the fashion front, Mrs. O paired a Duro Olowu printed top with navy trousers. You may recognize the top from here.

Mrs. O and Caroline Kennedy

P103111LJ-0438

Official White House Photo by Chuck Kennedy

"First Lady Michelle Obama waits with Caroline Kennedy Schlossberg in the Green Room of the White House before making remarks to the White House Historical Association, Oct. 31, 2011. The White House hosted a reception to honor the group's 50th anniversary."

Update: As several have observed in the comments, Caroline Kennedy wears an Alexander McQueen Slashed Sleeve Military Knit Pencil Dress, available here. The First Lady wears a two-tone pink dress by Jason Wu, which appears to be the same dress that Mrs. O wore on the cover of Vogue in March 2009, here

ASOS or DVF?

Pablo Martinez Monsivais / AP Images

The Huffington Post ran a style story today with the headline, "FLOTUS Looks Boo-tiful in DVF" referring to the diagonal stripe dress that the First Lady wore for yesterday's White House Halloween festivities. The story elaborates, "The FLOTUS wore a a black coat over a festive orange, gold and black striped dress from the Diane von Furtsenberg Fall 2011 collection." The dress is also available at Neiman Marcus, here.

When I saw the dress in question, I assumed (and reported) that it was the ASOS Midi Body-Conscious Dress in Metallic Stripe, seen here. But now, I'm not so sure. Well, pretty sure, but the eyes can deceive, and The Huffington Post proclaimed DVF so boldly. Either would seem to be a viable possibility, as Mrs. O has worn both labels on multiple occasions.

A few questions arise: Is Mrs. O indeed wearing the ASOS dress? Is the ASOS dress a copy of DVF? And is this adventures in copyright territory? Of note, Diane von Furstenberg has worked to establish the Innovative Design Protection and Piracy Prevention Act through her role as President of the CFDA.

Happy Halloween

Photos by Mandel Ngan / Getty Images, Pablo Martinez Monsivais / AP Images

The President and First Lady were joined by Mrs. Marian Robinson to greet trick-or-treaters outside the White House this afternoon. The lucky kiddos included elementary students from local schools, children from the Boys and Girls Club of America, as well as children from military families. A box of White House M&Ms, White House Sweet Dough Butter Cookies (recipe below) and a serving of dried fruit comprised this year's treats.

While not in costume, Mrs. O wore a Halloween appropriate dress, the ASOS Midi Body-Conscious Dress in Metallic Stripe, available here. A Sonia Rykiel coat, seen during the 2009 inauguration here, completed the look.

Hope everyone is having a wonderful weekend and a very Happy Halloween! And now, for the cookies ...

The White House Sweet Dough Butter Cookie Recipe

1 lb Sugar                                                        1 tsp Vanilla

2 lbs Butter                                                     1 tsp Salt

3 Eggs                                                             3 lbs All Purpose Flour

Mix the butter and sugar till soft and well beaten. Then add eggs, vanilla, salt and half the flour. Beat on slow speed till mixed, then add the rest of the flour and mix until incorporated.

Push flat onto a cookie sheet and refrigerate overnight. Roll out to one quarter inch thick and cut out cookie shapes with cookie cutter.

Bake at 350F for 14 minutes and then allow to cool.

Update: Marian Robinson also wears ASOS, the ASOS Sweater with Bouncing Bunnies, available here.
