We Heart Carole Tanenbaum

We are overwhelmed by all of the support we have received today, marking the launch of Mrs. O: The Face of Fashion Democracy.

One such source of encouragement is Carole Tanenbaum, a preeminent vintage jewlery collector, who we interviewed for the book. "It always seems to me that Michelle Obama has fun with what she wears. And I think that's how she makes her selections - things that charm her, colors that inspire her," Carole said.

Carole Tanenbaum's insights accompany a look that Michelle Obama wore for a campaign stop in Pittsburgh, PA during October 2008 (pg. 96-97), when the future first lady paired a J.Crew dress with a 1960s era pin by Hattie Carnegie, acquired through the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection. The image above captures the page in reference.

The Victorian rhinestone sash pin that Mrs. O wore for the inauguration, seen here, was also acquired through the Carole Tanenbaum Vintage Collection. Please check out Carole's support of the Mrs. O book here. And do peruse her simply beautiful and vast collection of vintage jewelry, here.

Mrs. O in the Bronx

Image by Timothy A. Clary / Getty Images

First Lady Mrs. O and and Dr. Jill Biden have been in the Bronx this afternoon, visiting the James J. Peters VA Medical Center. They're expected to attend Game 1 of the 2009 World Series this evening, which will be dedicated to military heros.

Mrs. O is wearing a patterned blouse in autumnal hues, paired with black pants, while Dr. B is dressed in All-American classics. We imagine they'll change for the game?

Update: Ari, you're our hero today! Ari has confirmed that Mrs. O wears a blouse by Peter Pilotto, from the desingner's Fall 2009 collection, seen here.

High Wattage Glamour

Image via Glamour.com

Check out our first lady on the cover of the upcoming issue of Glamour magazine. Breathtaking!

Glamour is honoring First Lady Mrs. O with a Special Recognition Award for her commitment to mentoring young women in the magazine's Women of the Year issue. Read more, including a full Q&A with Mrs. O, here.

Now, who made that fabulous dress and necklace?! Update: We may not find out. We hope this isn't the case. From the AP:

"On the Glamour cover she's in her own drop-waist, red cocktail dress with a modified ballskirt and a chunky, bow-inspired necklace. The outfit was from her own closet, and no designer will be credited in the magazine."

The designers responsible for these creations - both the necklace and dress - should get credit. They are gorgeous!

Update: Mrs. O wears a Jason Wu dress and a FENTON by Dana Lorenz necklace.
