Off and Away

Image by Alex Brandon / AP Photo

The entire O family is off to Chicago for the holiday weekend. Love the pop of color added to Mrs. O's black and white ensemble by her red ballet flats. And might that be a Vineyard Vines tote Mrs. Robinson is carrying?

Hope everyone has a fabulous weekend!

Update: Fans of Mrs. O's blouse will be happy to know it's a stretch poplin fitted top with collar bow detail from the Moschino Spring/Summer 2010 collection.

Pretty in Polka Dot

The president and first lady hosted a reception in honor of Jewish American Heritage Month in the East Room of the White House last evening. For the occasion, Mrs. O rewore a polka dot dress from Lanvin's 2009 Resort collection, last seen a little over a year ago, here.

Black and White Jason Wu

Also yesterday, First Lady Mrs. O was at the Eisenhower Executive Office Building to announce a $45 million commitment by several foundations and private philanthropists to be used as matching funds for social programs chosen by Social Innovation Fund. For more information on the fund and donations, click here.

For her appearance, Mrs. O wore a black dot twist front tank with eyelash trim, paired with a black embroidered dot micro-pleated skirt, both by Jason Wu. The ensemble first debuted last summer, seen here, actually here (thanks Bevi!). Yesterday, Mrs. O paired the ensemble with her signature Alaia belt and a stack of diamond bangles.

Mrs. O Takes Michigan

Image by Rebecca Cook / Reuters

The first lady was in Detroit, Michigan yesterday for a whirlwind visit that included a motivational speech at Wayne State University, as well as a more intimate mentoring session with students.

At Wayne State, Mrs. O's message was one of hope:

"What I know is there is plenty of hope here. Detroit's next chapter, America's next chapter, is waiting to be written by you. Young people, I am asking you to embrace that opportunity, to be our future."

And on the style front, the first lady was channeling that same energy, dressed in a optimistic pink skirt and top paired with coordinating pale pink flats.

Update: The first lady wore a peony silk cotton skirt and top by Narciso Rodriguez.

For a youth leadership and mentoring event also held at Wayne State yesterday, Mrs. O wore a printed top (possibly a dress?). Does anyone recognize it?

An Exercise in Style

Almost a week after the state dinner, Mrs. O was back in action yesterday, kicking off the South Lawn Series, a summer long event "to bring local children, sports leagues, community programs and coaches to the South Lawn to participate in sports, games and activities."

On the style front, the first lady paired a black and white floral shell from Talbots with slim black pants, and what I believe are black sequin Converse sneakers!
